Do I need my GSTIN to start?
No. Only your name and business name are required; every other step is skippable and finishable later from Settings → Business Details. Add your GSTIN before your first GST invoice, though — it's validated as you type and drives the tax split on documents.
I'm a freelancer, not a business — is this app still for me?
Yes. Pick freelancer / consultant at onboarding and Finocket gives you a shorter setup and a focused module set — invoicing, expenses, TDS on your receipts — without shop-keeping features like stock. You can enable more modules whenever you need them.
Can I try Finocket before entering real data?
Yes, two ways: seed the sample-data sandbox from the dashboard's Get started card to explore with believable numbers, or use the no-signup sandbox from a Try-it doorway page. Clear sample data with one tap when you're done.
I never got the confirmation code — what now?
Ask for a fresh one from the confirm screen (there's a short wait between sends), and check your spam folder. If you closed the app before confirming, just sign in with the same email and password — Finocket sends a new code and asks for it there rather than turning you away. Codes last an hour. If your company filters mail heavily, a code still works where a link may not: nothing can use up a code by reading it.
What happens if I abandon the wizard halfway?
Nothing is lost. Everything you entered is saved, and the wizard resumes where you left off next time. You can also finish any step later from Settings → Business Details — the app is fully usable with just the first step done.
How do I get the app on my phone?
Install Finocket from your browser: on Android tap Install when prompted (or menu → Install app); on iPhone use Safari's Share → Add to Home Screen. It then opens like a native app, and entries you record with no signal queue on the phone. See "Install Finocket as a real app".
Does Finocket really work without internet?
Yes, for day-to-day work. Recently visited screens and data are cached on your device, and entries you make offline are queued and synced when connectivity returns. Some actions that need the server — like connecting integrations or sending email — wait until you're back online.
Why can't I find the Install button on my iPhone?
iOS only allows installation from Safari, and Apple provides no install button — it's Share → Add to Home Screen. If you're in Chrome or another browser on iPhone, open the same address in Safari first, then follow the Share-menu steps.
Will installing use a lot of storage?
No. Finocket installs as a lightweight web app measured in megabytes, not the hundreds that typical store apps take. Your books live on the server, with only recent data cached locally for speed and offline use.
If I uninstall, do I lose my data?
No. Uninstalling removes only the icon and the local cache. Every client, invoice and payment stays on Finocket's servers under your account — sign in again from any browser or device and everything is there.
How do I update the app?
You don't have to do anything. As a web app, Finocket updates itself: the next time you open it online, the new version loads automatically. No store visits, no update prompts, no versions to manage.
Will sample data mess up my GST reports?
While seeded, sample invoices and expenses do appear in report screens — that's the point, so you can see how reports behave. Clear the sample data before any real filing; the one-tap clear removes every seeded row and your reports reflect only real entries.
Can I re-seed after clearing?
Yes, as many times as you like. Settings → Account & privacy has both buttons side by side — Add sample data and Clear sample data. Each seed creates a fresh set with the [SAMPLE] prefix; each clear removes exactly that set.
Is there a way to try Finocket without creating an account?
Yes. The Try-it doorway pages open a no-signup sandbox where you can explore with sample-style data before registering. When you're ready, sign up and your real workspace starts clean — seed the sample data there again if you want.
How is clearing sample data safe for my real entries?
Removal matches only rows whose name or description starts with [SAMPLE] — a prefix the seeder puts on everything it creates. Nothing is removed by date, type or amount, so real entries you made before, during or after sampling are untouched.
Can I run two GST-registered businesses in one Finocket account?
Yes. Add each business as its own company with its own GSTIN. Invoices, GSTR-1/3B data, stock and financial statements stay fully separate per company, so each business files its own returns cleanly from its own books.
Does the second company cost extra?
During early access, additional companies are free to use like the rest of the platform — founder pricing will be announced before billing switches on. Check the pricing page for the current position before adding companies for a larger practice.
Can my accountant see all my companies?
Only the ones they're a member of. Access is granted per company, so you can share one business's books with your CA while keeping another private. Inside a shared company an accountant's access is read-only.
Will my invoice numbers clash between companies?
No. Each company has its own numbering series, its own GSTIN on documents, and its own document defaults. Invoices created in one company never consume numbers from another, so both audit trails stay clean.
How do integrations and the API pick a company?
Every API request works inside exactly one company: the company the key is pinned to, your default, or the one named in the request. Marketplace connections and reports likewise belong to the company you connected them in.
Should each of my shops be its own workspace?
No. One legal entity is one workspace, even with three state registrations under one PAN — they are one company. Splitting them cannot be undone once transactions exist, and every cross-shop report stops working. Add each shop as a shop inside the one workspace.
In what order should I set retail up?
Products with SKUs or barcodes, then your shops, then opening stock, then the till. Offers, loyalty and couriers can come any time after — but products first, because everything downstream keys off them.
Is moving stock between my own shops taxable?
Between shops in the SAME state, no — it is not a supply. Across a state line it is, even though nothing was sold: it needs a tax invoice with IGST. Finocket flags it before the transfer is saved and says plainly that raising the invoice is still yours to do.
Which languages can I set up in?
English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. The first screen asks, with each option written in its own script, and everything after it — questions, buttons, help — comes in the language you picked. If your phone is already set to one of them it is highlighted as a suggestion, never applied for you.
Can I speak my answers?
Where your device and the app can both manage it. The transcript lands in the box as editable text and nothing is saved until you send it. For Tamil, Telugu and Kannada it warns up front that speech still comes out rough. Where speaking is not available it says which of the six reasons applies rather than failing silently.
When does it actually change my workspace?
Only when you tap Apply. Everything you say goes into one row that belongs to you; no module, GST setting or profile field is touched during the conversation, so abandoning it halfway leaves your workspace exactly as it was.
What if it guesses something wrong?
Every row on the review sheet says where it came from — you said, my guess, or our default — and a guess arrives unticked. If you do not tick it, it is not applied. The GST composition scheme is refused as a guess outright, because it is an election you make with the department.
Can I undo it?
Yes, straight after Apply — every setting goes back the way it was and the reversal is recorded. Tapping it twice does nothing extra.
What if the assistant is unavailable?
You are told which — off, unreachable, or the daily allowance spent — and pointed at the ordinary setup form, which does the same job with no AI at all.
I run a restaurant. Does Finocket set up differently?
Yes. Say restaurant, cafe, cloud kitchen, bakery or tiffin service and you are set up for a kitchen rather than a shop: recipes and costing come on, and bank matching comes on with them because Zomato and Swiggy pay out after taking their commission. Your catalogue becomes your Menu, an item is a dish, and the person you are billing is a guest.
Does my trade change the tax I charge?
No. What you charge is decided by your GST settings and your items, never by the trade you picked at setup. Choosing a trade changes which tools are suggested and what things are called on screen — nothing about tax, and nothing about your data.
My exact trade is not in the list. Does that matter?
No. The list of industries is deliberately short, and the rest is worked out from the words you use — “we run a cloud kitchen” and “ours is a sweet shop and bakery” both land on the restaurant setup. If it guesses wrong you can change it, and you see the whole list before anything is applied.
What do I export from Tally?
Masters, as XML: Gateway of Tally → Export → Masters → All Masters, XML format. Only .xml is accepted, up to 25 MB, and it is read on your device — Finocket keeps the summary you approve and a fingerprint of the file, never the file itself.
Are my vouchers brought across?
No. They are counted and shown to you with their date range, and left in Tally. Your opening capital and reserves already contain them; replaying them would double-count prior-period revenue and contradict GST returns you have already filed.
Why won't it let me import?
Because something needs your decision — most often that the opening balances do not balance, in which case it prints the exact difference and sends you back to Tally. It never adds a balancing line of its own: an unbalanced import would sit quietly in Opening Balance Difference until your accountant asked.
What if a name already exists in Finocket?
It is skipped, never merged, and listed so you can see it. Your existing records are left exactly as they are.
Can I undo the import?
Yes, once. It removes what it brought in and keeps anything you have used since, telling you exactly what and why — a ledger with entries posted to it is archived rather than deleted, a client you have invoiced is kept. The record of the import itself is never deleted. After an undo, Start over takes you straight back to the file step.
Does it upload my books or use AI?
Neither. There is no model call, no upload and no API route in this flow; parsing, the plan and the trial balance are worked out on your device.
For you
Can an automation watch the commission for me?
Two are written and neither can be switched on yet. Commission that has fallen due reads what has come off hold against what has been paid out; The month's partner statements names a closed month whose statements have not gone. Both are listed in the agent catalogue and both are refused when you try to set one up, because nothing an agent can read reaches the commission ledger yet — a card that let you pay for a run that finds nothing every month would be worse than one that says so.
Would an agent ever pay a partner or send a statement?
No. Everything in the agent catalogue is read-and-report. Releasing a hold, paying a partner and sending a statement stay deliberate acts on their own screens — the commission ledger is append-only and an agent is not one of the things allowed to append to it.
I promote a shop's own online store and till, not a referred client — is that a different kind of partner?
No, same portal, same ledger. A Shop affiliates programme credits you on a real sale — a storefront order or a till bill — instead of on a referred customer. Your Links screen carries your tracked link, code and QR; your Orders screen shows the sales attributed to you (masked to what the shop chose to share); everything else — holds, statements, tax — works exactly as it does for any other partner.
Where do I find the full programme FAQ — fees, TDS, GST, tiers?
On the public partner programme page (/for/partners), under Questions — 24 answers in one place, covering fees, commission, payout timing, tax paperwork, tiers and more. It's the same page whether you're still deciding or already a partner.
Do I get anything in writing once I accept?
Yes — an email with your own copy of exactly what you agreed to: the terms text, its version, and when you accepted it. It's a dated, fingerprinted record of your click-accept, not a signed document; a formal e-signature, if a business ever needs one from you, is a separate step.
Can I mint my own second code?
No — that stays a request to the shop. Every code an affiliate carries is one the shop chose to hand out.
Does my code work at the till, not just online?
Yes. A partner code is an ordinary shop promotion under the hood, so the same code a cashier types at the till and a shopper types at checkout online both credit you the same way.
Can I see my client's invoices or bank?
No. The screen asks for setup progress and the signup date, and that is all it can receive. Provisioning a workspace does not make you a reader of it.
A client shows 0 of 10 — is the page broken?
No, that is a real state: they have signed up and ticked nothing off yet. It is the row where a call still changes the outcome.
I pressed Nudge and it said Notifications off.
The in-app notice was created, but that client has not opted into email, so nothing was emailed. The button says so rather than reporting a delivery that did not happen.
Why can't I see the shopper's name or number?
By design. An affiliate promotes the shop but is not a party to the sale, so the shop can choose to show you only “a shopper” — never contact details, never the invoice number.
Why did a sale disappear from my list?
It was likely returned within the shop's return window, which reverses the commission — a clawback — rather than removing the row silently.
Why is a customer shown only by initials?
They came through a link or typed code and have not agreed to share their contact yet. Message them through the relay instead — Finocket delivers it without ever handing you their address.
Why does one row show their real contact and another doesn't, even though both came from a link?
The one showing real contact has agreed, from their own Settings → Your partner screen — that consent is per relationship and revocable at any time.
Why is a workspace I provisioned myself never masked?
You already know that contact — you typed it into the setup wizard yourself. Masking data back from the person who supplied it would not protect anyone.
Why do I see 'Open workspace' instead of a reveal button?
You already hold an accountant seat on that client's own books, so you can see their real details there directly — this screen doesn't pretend otherwise.
Does approving a statement release the money?
No. Approving tells the shop you agree with the numbers; the shop still records the payment separately.
What happens if I have no PAN on file?
Nothing, until your earnings for the financial year would cross ₹20,000 — at that point the shop cannot finalize a statement that credits you further until you add one.
Is there an automation for my own money, not a business's?
Two, both monthly. Spending outside your own normal writes to you only in a month whose total leaves the range your own last six months set, and names the entries that moved it. Bank statement against your own records ticks an imported statement against what you entered and reports only what it could not pair, in both directions. Neither runs until you set it up, and neither writes anything back.
Can somebody I share the workspace with see those?
No. Both are offered only to a workspace's own person — never to somebody reading it as an accountant, an admin or a team member — because personal money has no team-sharing path to sit behind. If you want another person to see a month, you send it to them yourself.
Is there one for my investments or my 80C headroom?
No, and it is a decision rather than a gap. An agent runs on a key whose permissions come from a fixed vocabulary built for business books, and letting one read your personal holdings would mean widening keys that already exist. So investments and personal income are placed out of every agent's reach on purpose; the 80C picture stays something you open yourself.
Does the till collect the money?
No. There is no card reader, no printer and no payout. Cash records the sale; UPI shows a QR built from the counter's UPI ID, and Confirm payment received is your word, not the bank's — check your own UPI app before you tap it.
Does point of sale work offline?
No. Unlike most of Finocket, the till needs a connection.
Should each of my shops be its own workspace?
No. One legal entity is one workspace, even with three state registrations under one PAN. Add each shop as a shop inside the one workspace; each numbers its own bills from 1 under its own prefix.
Can counter staff do all of this?
There is a ready-made Cashier role, and it scopes what a counter person sees to their own shop: their bill list holds only their shop's sales — no other shop's, no purchase bills, no purchase orders, no cost prices. They can look a customer up, see your running offers and a member's points, park a bill and take a return. ⚠️ They cannot currently pick an item: the Cashier role reads no catalogue at all, so use an admin or assistant login to ring a sale at the till until that is resolved. An admin or assistant can do everything; an accountant can read the whole book and write nothing. Posting a journal is the owner's alone, whatever role you give.
What does a counter sale do to my GST return?
It lands in GSTR-1 as a B2C sale with CGST and SGST split from each item's rate; a return issues a credit note at the original bill's own tax split and reaches the return as a credit note.
Does a return put the stock back?
Only when you pick the items and quantities coming back from the bill's own lines; leave the quantities empty to credit an amount instead. You cannot return more than was sold, and a second tap on a busy counter is refused, not refunded twice.
Can an affiliate's code be typed at the till, not just online?
Yes. A Shop affiliates partner's code is an ordinary till promotion under the hood, so a cashier types it exactly like any other coupon code and the sale is credited to that partner the same way a link click on your storefront would be.
Where do loyalty points and gift vouchers sit in my books?
Points are a liability — money you owe in goods — and the accounts they post to are the ones your accountant names; leave them empty and nothing posts, fill them in and every movement since the programme began posts at once. A voucher is taken at the till as a tender like cash or UPI, never on a card that has expired or been voided.
Can I open my next shop by copying this one?
Through the API, yes: the new shop gets the same kind, hours and number of tills and a bill series of its own, and refuses to copy the godown, the UPI ID and the stock. The Shops screen does not offer it yet.
Modules & features
Can my accountant approve a GST return themselves?
No, and it is not a setting you can change. An accountant you invite has read-only access to your books by design, and preparing a return does not change that. Nobody approves their own work either — not your accountant, not a team member, and not you if you prepared it.
Who can approve a return?
You can, because you own the workspace, and you can make a team member an approver too. Only the person the return is waiting on can act on it; everyone else sees it as view-only.
What happens if the return changes after I approve it?
The approval stops counting and it comes back to you. Finocket keeps a fingerprint of the exact figures you agreed to, so if anything is edited afterwards, what you approved no longer matches what would be filed. You are asked again rather than told later.
Does approving a return file it?
No. Approving marks the return as agreed and ready. Sending it to the GST portal remains a separate, deliberate step that a person does.
How do I find out that a return is waiting for me?
It appears in the bell at the top of the screen and is emailed to you, naming the return, the period and the tax payable. Both your name and your accountant's stay with the record, so months later it is still clear who prepared a return and who approved it.
Is a GSTIN required to add a client?
No — it is always optional, and plenty of customers are not registered. You do need one before raising a B2B tax invoice to them, and it drives the CGST/SGST versus IGST split on the document.
Does autofill overwrite what I already typed?
No. It fills empty fields only — a name you wrote or an address you corrected is left exactly as you wrote it. Your version of a customer's name is often the one you actually recognise.
What will the GST portal not fill in?
A phone number, an email address or a UPI ID — it does not hold them. Finocket says so rather than leaving you waiting for contact details that are never coming.
Why am I warned about a supplier's GSTIN?
Two warnings are worth more than the autofill itself. A cancelled or suspended registration means input tax credit claimed against their invoices can be reversed later with interest, and a composition taxpayer cannot pass on input tax credit at all — neither is something you can check offline.
The fetch failed — is the GSTIN wrong?
It depends which message you got, and Finocket keeps them apart on purpose. 'This GSTIN is not on the GST portal' means the number is well formed but nobody is registered under it — usually a typo. 'We could not reach the GST portal' means we do not know, so try again later. Either way you can save the client and carry on.
Why did I get this notification?
Because the thing is about something you own or something you can act on — and the notification says which, so you are never left guessing. Until recently only the business owner could be notified at all, which meant a colleague waiting to approve something had no way of knowing it was waiting.
Can I turn some notifications off?
Yes, by category, once alerts are on for the device: invoices due and overdue, payments received, module requests, and one morning digest of outstanding money. The weekly summary email has its own switch on the same screen. The choice applies to all your devices, and it stops the alert rather than the record — the bell still lists everything.
Can I stop the weekly summary email?
Yes, and two ways. There is a switch under Settings, and there is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email that works without signing in — so you can stop it from your phone's mail app in one tap. Both do the same thing and either can be reversed from Settings. Stopping it touches nothing else: invoices, payment confirmations and your own reminders all carry on.
Why did I not get a weekly summary this week?
Because there was nothing to report. If you were owed nothing, had nothing past its due date and collected nothing in the last seven days, no email is sent — a message saying 'nothing happened' every Monday is the fastest way to teach you to ignore the ones that matter.
Which notifications can I never switch off?
Security alerts. If someone signs in to your account from a new device, or a password or key is changed, you will be told whatever else you have muted. That is the one case where 'my notifications were off' is not a good answer afterwards.
I invited a colleague and they are getting nothing.
If you invited them by phone number and they have not opened Finocket yet, there is no account to send a notification to. They need to sign in once before they can be told anything.
Why did a notification I expected never arrive?
If Finocket decided not to send it, that decision and its reason are recorded rather than lost. So 'I was never told' is a question that can actually be answered — contact support with roughly when you expected it.
Do notifications work on my phone?
Yes, in the browser and in the Finocket app on Android and iOS. You are asked for permission the first time; if you said no and changed your mind, turn it back on from your phone's own settings for the app. On iPhone and iPad, add Finocket to the Home Screen first.
How long does it take, and can I change my mind?
Thirty days. The request is scheduled that far out and your account keeps working normally in the meantime — the same screen offers Cancel deletion until the date arrives. After it runs, the data is gone and cannot be recovered.
Can I get my data out first?
Yes, and you should. Settings → Account & privacy has Download my data, which exports everything you have entered as CSV. Do it before the 30 days elapse; once the erasure runs there is no copy left to ask for.
What if I cannot sign in any more?
Email us from the address on the account and ask us to delete it. We verify who you are and process it. The public Delete your account page explains this and is readable without signing in.
Is anything kept after deletion?
Only what the law requires — chiefly transaction and tax records covered by statutory accounting and GST retention periods, and minimal anti-fraud logs. They are held for the required period and are not used to re-identify you for anything else.
What happens to books I share with my CA or a teammate?
Closing your account erases the businesses you own, so anyone working in them loses that access — tell them first. If you are the teammate rather than the owner, closing your account removes you and your own data and leaves their books untouched; anything you approved stays approved, it just stops naming you.
How do I know it actually happened?
The request is marked complete only once your data has really gone, and it is checked afterwards rather than assumed. If anything interrupts the erasure the request stays queued and is tried again, instead of being closed off as done.
What happens if I forget my passcode and have no recovery key?
The copy of your books on that device cannot be opened — not by you, not by support, not by anybody, because nobody else holds the key. Everything that has already synced is safe on the server and comes back when you sign in again. Only work that never synced is lost.
Can Finocket support read my data or reset my passcode?
No. Support can reset your account password, which gets you back to everything that has synced on a fresh device. It cannot open the encrypted copy stored on a device — there is no copy of that key anywhere but on your device and in your recovery key.
Does using my recovery key use it up?
No. After you unlock with it and set a new passcode, the same recovery key keeps working. Making a NEW recovery key is what retires the old one.
I typed it and it says it did not work.
Check the character count first — twenty-four, in six groups of four. Case does not matter and the dashes are optional, and O/0 and I/L/1 are read as what you meant, so the usual cause is a missed or doubled character rather than a wrong-looking one.
I added another workspace to this device. Is it covered?
Not by an existing key. A recovery key covers what was on the device when it was made, and it cannot be extended afterwards because Finocket does not hold a copy of it. The Recovery key screen tells you when something is uncovered; make a new key to cover everything.
Can my employer read the books on my device?
Not today. The copy on your device is opened by your passcode or your own recovery key, and nobody else holds either — not an administrator, not Finocket support. That would only change if your organisation turned on key escrow, which no organisation can do yet.
Can Finocket decrypt my books?
No. Finocket holds no copy of your passcode and no copy of your recovery key, so the encrypted copy on your device cannot be opened by anyone at Finocket. Turning on organisation escrow would change that for that organisation, which is why the screen makes you tick that exact sentence before anything happens.
If escrow were turned on and then off again, would I be safe?
Partly, and it is worth being precise. Turning it off stops new keys being made, but it cannot withdraw a key that has already been made and copied. Anyone holding an older escrow key could still open data written afterwards, because the key that encrypts your books does not change when escrow is switched off.
Would I be told if my organisation turned escrow on?
The setting is readable by every member of the organisation, not only the owner who set it — so the Organisation key escrow screen always tells you the current state and when it changed.
Why is there a screen for something that cannot be switched on?
Because escrow is the one setting whose consequences you should understand before somebody asks you to agree to it. The screen states exactly what it would change, what it could never undo, and what has not yet been decided.
Will my existing invoices change?
No. An invoice that uses the Classic template with nothing customised still prints exactly as before. Only what you change on this screen changes what prints.
Can one invoice use a different template from the rest?
Yes. The invoice form has its own template row; leave it on the workspace default or pick another for that document alone.
Why does a column I switched on not appear on a document?
Columns that every line would leave blank are left out — a size column appears only on measured lines, an image column only when an item has a picture. The HSN and GST columns follow the document's tax treatment.
What is the correct GST invoice format for a small business?
Use a Tax Invoice if you're GST-registered: your GSTIN, the client's GSTIN and state, line items with HSN/SAC, and the CGST/SGST or IGST split. Finocket builds all of this into the PDF automatically — you pick the document type and the format follows.
Can I send GST invoices on WhatsApp?
Yes. Every invoice detail page has a WhatsApp share action that sends the PDF with a message. Reminders for unpaid invoices can also go out over WhatsApp from the Outstanding screen.
What is the time limit for a credit note under GST?
Issue it by 30 November following the end of the financial year the original invoice belongs to, or before you file that year's annual return — whichever comes first. Finocket keeps credit notes on their own CN- series and nets them off your GSTR-1.
What's the difference between a tax invoice and a bill of supply?
A tax invoice charges GST and lets a registered buyer claim ITC. A bill of supply carries no tax — it's for composition-scheme dealers and exempt supplies. Pick the type at the top of the invoice form.
Can I edit an invoice after sending it?
No — only drafts are editable. For a sent invoice use Cancel & reissue, or issue a credit note if it's already gone into a GST return. This protects your numbering and audit trail.
Why was my client's PAN refused?
The 4th character of a PAN says who it belongs to — P for an individual, C for a company, H for a HUF, F for a firm, A for an AOP, T for a trust, B for a BOI, L for a local authority, J for an artificial juridical person, G for government. If it is any other letter the number is not a real PAN, whatever its shape. The commonest cause is the specimen number ABCDE1234F, which is printed on the PAN form itself and in most documentation — its 4th character is D, so it is refused. Check the card rather than the form.
What's the difference between a quote/estimate and an invoice?
An estimate is a proposal: it carries no tax liability and doesn't touch your books or GST returns. It becomes real money only when you convert it to an invoice after acceptance. Finocket keeps them on separate EST-/INV- numbering so the two never mix.
Is a typed-name acceptance legally useful?
It's a record of assent: Finocket stores who typed what name and exactly when, attached to the exact estimate they saw. For most small-business work in India that's a solid paper trail; for high-value contracts pair it with your usual agreement.
How do I collect an advance from a client?
Convert the accepted estimate to an invoice, then add a payment schedule with a deposit percentage. The payment link and reminders will chase just the deposit first, and the remaining milestones after.
Can my client decline an estimate?
Yes — the accept page has a decline action with a reason box. The reason lands back on the estimate so you know what to fix before re-quoting.
Does an estimate affect my GST returns?
No. Estimates stay out of GSTR-1 and your income entirely. Only the invoice you convert it into is reported.
How do I bill a job in stages?
On a new invoice, open the Progress / retainer billing panel, pick the parent estimate, sales order or retainer, then enter a percentage or amount tranche. Finocket shows the remaining balance live and drops the tranche onto the invoice as a line.
Can I accidentally bill more than the job is worth?
No. The cumulative amount billed against a parent can never exceed its total, to the paisa. A tranche that would cross the line is blocked with a message telling you exactly how much is left — the same check runs in the app and via the API.
Do percentage tranches drift by a rounding rupee?
No. Percentages are worked out to the paisa and the final tranche bills the exact remainder, so a job billed in many pieces still sums to exactly the total.
Will changing the invoice template hide my custom fields?
No. All three templates — Classic, Modern and Compact — render the same data and honour every custom field you flagged to show on the PDF. Leaving the template untouched keeps today's look exactly.
Can I set one template for every invoice?
Yes — set a workspace default in Settings → Invoice defaults. Any invoice can still override it, and unset always means the Classic default.
Does my client need to install anything or create a login?
No. The portal is a web link — it opens in any browser on any phone. There's no password; the private link itself is the access.
My customer wants to negotiate the rate on a quote — where does that conversation go?
On the quote. They tap Ask a question on their portal link and type it; you get an email with the message in it, and the thread sits on the estimate under Customer questions, with an Awaiting your reply flag while their message is the newest. You reply from there and it appears on their link.
Can I edit or delete a message after sending it?
No — for either side. A conversation about a price is a record of what was agreed, so nothing in the thread can be changed or removed. Deleting the quote deletes the conversation with it.
Can one customer's portal link see another customer's quote?
No. A portal link is one customer's key: it can only read and post to that customer's own quotes, and a request for anyone else's answers as if the quote does not exist.
Can my client pay directly from the portal?
Yes — each open invoice carries a pay action. If the invoice has a payment schedule, the portal offers the next open installment rather than the full balance. Online payment needs your Razorpay payments onboarding done once.
How do I send a client their statement of account?
Either share the portal link (they download the CSV themselves) or run the statement from the client's page and send the CSV or printout on WhatsApp or email.
What are ageing buckets on the statement?
Unpaid amounts grouped by how overdue they are — for example 0–30, 31–60, 61–90 and 90+ days. Accounts teams use them to prioritise which payments to release first.
Does the statement cover a client's whole history, however long we have traded?
Yes. Every invoice and every payment recorded against that client is read, however many there are, and the brought-forward balance at the top of a date range is worked out from all of them. Until 12 September 2026 a client with more than about a thousand invoices or a thousand payments had that opening figure calculated from part of their history, and every running balance below it carried the same error — so if you reconciled a very long-standing account before that date, run the statement again.
What happens if the statement cannot be read?
You get an error instead of a statement. That is deliberate: a statement showing no invoices and a zero balance used to look identical whether the client genuinely owed nothing or the figures simply could not be fetched, and your customer sees this page too.
Does a supplier's uploaded invoice become a bill automatically?
No. Uploads are review-only — they land in a private Vendor uploads list and nothing is posted to your books. You open the document, check it, and decide whether to record a bill from it yourself.
Can one vendor see another vendor's orders or bills?
Never. A link resolves to one vendor in one workspace, so a supplier sees only their own purchase orders, bills and payments — nothing else in your books.
How do I stop a supplier from using their link?
Open the supplier and tap Revoke links on the Vendor portal card. Every existing link for that vendor stops working instantly, and expired links (90 days) stop on their own.
Does my supplier need an app or a login?
No. The portal is a web link that opens in any browser. The private link itself is the access — share it only with the supplier it belongs to.
My client deducted 10% TDS under 194J — how do I get it back?
It's not lost: it's pre-paid income tax credited to your PAN. Record the gross amount with the TDS captured in Finocket, verify it appears in your Form 26AS/AIS, and claim it as tax already paid when you file your ITR — it offsets your tax or comes back as a refund.
What is the TDS rate and limit on commission under 194H?
5% on commission or brokerage, once payments to you cross the annual threshold (₹15,000 classically; verify the current limit). Record such receipts in Finocket with section 194H so your year-end summary matches 26AS.
Should I enter the net amount the client actually paid?
No — enter the gross invoice value and capture the TDS separately. Your income and outstanding are based on gross; the TDS is tracked as your credit.
What happens to the invoice when a partial payment comes in?
It stays open until payments cover the full total; then it flips to paid automatically. Each payment shows on the invoice and the client's ledger.
Can I give my client a receipt for their payment?
Yes — every payment has a shareable receipt you can send over WhatsApp or email as acknowledgement.
I deducted TDS while paying a contractor — what do I do next?
Deposit it by the 7th of the next month using challan ITNS 281 against your TAN (Finocket prints a pre-fill sheet), record the challan's BSR code and serial in the challan register, and report the deduction in that quarter's 26Q return. Finocket's TDS hub tracks deducted vs deposited per quarter so nothing slips.
What's the difference between TAN and PAN here?
PAN identifies the taxpayer; TAN identifies a tax DEDUCTOR. TDS your clients withhold from you lands against your PAN (26AS). TDS you withhold from vendors is deposited and reported against your TAN. You need a TAN before you can deposit or file 26Q.
What happens if my vendor won't give me their PAN?
Section 206AA can force deduction at 20% instead of the section rate, and the 26Q reports the row as PANNOTAVBL. Finocket flags every PAN-less TDS entry so you can chase the PAN before quarter-end.
Does Finocket file my 26Q return?
No — it prepares a reconciliation-friendly workbook (challans, deductee annexure, summary). Your CA loads it into Protean's free RPU, validates with the FVU and files. Finocket never auto-files anything.
Are the Form 16A PDFs from Finocket valid certificates?
No — they're clearly watermarked working copies for your records and review. The legally valid Form 16A is generated on TRACES after your 26Q is processed; hand those to your vendors.
Can something watch the quarter so nothing slips past the 7th?
Yes. The TDS quarter watch automation at /agents compares deducted against deposited for the running quarter and tells you what is short before the deposit date, together with the deductions still missing a supplier PAN. Set it up on the Automations screen at /agents; in the weeks when the quarter is clean you hear nothing at all.
Will it deposit the challan or file the 26Q?
No to both, and there is no setting that changes it. Finocket does not move money anywhere in the product, so there is no route for an automation to pay a challan, and it never files a return. It gets the quarter reconciled and the warnings cleared — the deposit and the filing stay yours.
Finocket says "no approved rate is published for this code". Is it broken?
No — it is doing the one thing it promises. Finocket keeps a rule book, and a rule only enters it after a chartered accountant has read the government sentence and confirmed it says what the row claims. Until that has happened for your question, Finocket genuinely does not know the answer, and it says so rather than filling in the figure that is probably right. Ask your CA, type their answer in, and carry on — nothing is blocked.
Why not just fill in the usual rate and let me correct it?
Because a guessed figure and a sourced one look identical on screen, so you would have no way of knowing which one needed checking. A wrong number nobody can trace, sitting confidently on invoices, is how a filing goes wrong quietly for a year. Finocket would rather be visibly unhelpful once than invisibly wrong for twelve months.
What is the difference between "no approved rule says this" and "we could not read the rule book"?
Everything. The first means the rule book was read successfully and holds nothing that answers you. The second means the lookup itself failed — there may well be a rule, we could not reach it. They are written as differently as possible because both would otherwise render as a reassuring blank, and most people supply the comforting reading.
What does "Why this number?" actually show me?
The sentence copied word for word out of the government document, the notification it came from, the date it came into force, whether it is still in force, and a link to the document with its publisher. If a figure cannot open that panel with a government sentence inside it, the figure is not sourced — and the panel says that instead of showing an empty box.
If the law changes, does my old invoice change too?
No. An approved rule is never edited in place: a new version is added and the old one is closed off on the day it stopped applying. So a document you raised last year can still show the rule that was in force when you raised it, rather than today's rule pretending to have always been there.
Who is the person approving these rules?
A named reviewer, and their name and the date stay attached to what they approved. They are not asked whether a rate is fair — only whether the quoted government sentence says what the row claims. The approval is tied to that exact text, so changing a word of it sends the row back to a person.
What does “Not yet sourced” mean on the compliance calendar?
The obligation applies to you, but no published, CA-signed rule dates it yet. Every date on the calendar is read from such a rule with its source beside it; until one exists the calendar says so instead of guessing. Nothing is broken, and no reminder is sent for an unsourced date.
Which view should I use?
The stream for the daily question (what is next), Day when you sit down to do the filing, 3-day on a phone for what is imminent, Week to plan the week, Month for orientation. All five show the same list, so a filter set once stays set.
Can I send my CA exactly the view I am looking at?
Yes. Filters and the view live in the address bar, so copying the link shares the exact view. If part of a link no longer makes sense, the calendar shows everything for that part and names what it ignored.
Why does the payroll layer show nothing?
PF, ESI, professional tax and labour welfare are tracked in ashr.work. The calendar shows payroll as a read-only layer that links out and dates nothing here, so one product is the source of truth for a date.
An obligation I expected is missing — where do I look?
Settings → Business Details. Which obligations apply comes from what you have entered there — GST registration, filing preference, TAN, company type, entity facts. A fact you have not entered is treated as nobody said, never as a default.
The Council announced a change — should I change my invoices today?
No. An announcement is not law. Nothing changes for your invoices until the change is notified, with a date it takes effect from. Items drawn from a press release carry an "announced, not yet notified" banner for exactly this reason. Read the announcements, act on the notifications.
The newsroom is empty. Is it working?
Yes. Nothing has been published yet, because the first item only appears once a reviewer has approved one. An empty newsroom and an unreachable one look different on purpose — if the feed could not be loaded you are told that, rather than shown a page that looks calmly like there is no news.
How does it know a change touches my books?
It looks at four things: the HSN and SAC codes your items are classified under, the state you are registered in, the turnover band you stated, and the line of business on your profile. It does not read anything you typed — no invoice line descriptions, no client names, no notes. The matching reads codes and amounts and is built so it could not read the rest.
Why is this item in English when I use the app in Hindi?
Because the translation has not been through a person yet, and a machine draft of a compliance item is a mistranslated statement about tax law. "Notified" and "announced" are one word apart in every Indian language. A translation is only shown once a named reviewer has approved it; until then you get the approved English with a line saying so.
Can I read the newsroom without logging in, or with a program?
Both. The public newsroom is open to anyone — share the link with your accountant or suppliers. There is also a JSON feed at /newsroom/feed carrying the same items from the same reader, so the page and the feed can never disagree. If the read fails, the feed answers with an error rather than an empty list.
Will it change my rates or file anything for me?
No. It reports what was published, with the document attached, so the conversation with your CA starts from a source instead of a rumour. Nothing on your invoices, rates or returns is adjusted by it.
How do I find the right HSN code for what I sell?
Type what you sell into the HSN/SAC field on an item or an invoice line and search the government's full list of 22,609 codes. The list loads once when you first open the picker, so searching does not make you wait. If your CA gave you a code the list does not carry, you can still type it — refusing it would be the worse mistake.
Why won't it tell me how many HSN digits I have to quote?
Because that depends on your turnover and it is a statement about the law, so it is read off Finocket's rule book rather than built into the app. Until a chartered accountant has approved that rule, the picker says there is no approved rule instead of showing a plausible number. Your CA can tell you today.
My return says "OTHERS" for the unit — did I do something wrong?
No. GST notifies a short list of unit codes and it is a goods vocabulary — there is no notified code for an hour, a day, a visit, a project or a licence. Those lines correctly file under the general code. Finocket tells you at the moment you pick the unit, rather than weeks later in an export file, and it never rewrites your unit to something more convenient.
What if the port list or the PIN directory can't be reached?
You get the plain text box back with a line explaining why, and you can still record your paperwork — a bill of entry has a filing deadline and our list does not. And a port code already saved that the list does not carry is offered as its own option rather than dropped, so you learn the register holds something odd instead of never finding out.
Can I bring my catalogue and client list in from a spreadsheet?
Yes — there are importers for items, clients and suppliers, each with a template to download, and each reads a CSV or an Excel file (.xlsx or .xls). Every import shows what it would do before doing any of it: how many rows would be created, how many updated, and which rows it cannot place and why. Nothing is written until you say so.
A search found nothing. Is the list empty or broken?
Finocket tells you which. "No match in the list" and "the list could not be read" produce identical blank screens in most software, and almost everyone reads the blank screen as the reassuring one — so these two never share wording here.
What is the difference between nil rated, exempt and outside GST?
On the invoice, nothing — all three show no tax. On a return they are three separate positions. Nil rated means GST applies but the rate on it is nil; exempt means a notification exempts it rather than rating it nil; outside GST means GST does not apply to the supply at all. Which one your goods fall into is your CA's call, and Finocket will not guess it.
Every item says "Not stated". Should I worry?
No. "Not stated" is the fifth option and it means nobody has been asked yet — it is deliberately not treated as "taxable", because that is the confident reading you may be trying to say it is not. Nothing nags you, and a business that has never been asked this has not got it wrong.
Do I set the classification on the item or on the line?
Both exist and the line is what counts. The item's setting becomes the starting point for lines you sell it on, because one invoice can perfectly well carry a taxable line and an exempt line. Where a line disagrees with its catalogue item, Finocket points that out rather than silently preferring one.
I left the cess box blank — does that mean zero?
It means nobody has said, which is not the same thing. Finocket does not fill in a zero and treat the question as settled. Most goods carry no compensation cess; tobacco, aerated drinks, coal and motor vehicles are the usual exceptions. If you are unsure whether something you sell bears cess, that is a question for your CA.
Why does the e-way bill dialog insist on a vehicle number?
Because an e-way bill has two parts, and Part-A alone is not one. Fill in the consignment details without the vehicle and you get a document that looks like an e-way bill, while goods moving on it are treated in law as moving without one. Road transport needs a vehicle number; the other modes need a transport document instead, and the dialog says which is missing before you submit.
Does recording all this file anything?
No. Finocket stores what you and your CA decided and shows it on the document; how each class is reported on a return follows your CA's reading, and Finocket never files for you. The value is that the answer is captured on the day the invoice is raised instead of being reconstructed at year-end.
How do I record business expenses so I can claim GST ITC?
Record each expense with the GST panel on: supplier GSTIN, the CGST/SGST or IGST amounts, and ITC-eligible ticked. Finocket rolls eligible credits into your monthly GSTR-3B automatically, and stamps them claimed once you file.
What business expense categories should I use in India?
Common heads: rent, salaries, travel, fuel, telephone & internet, professional fees, raw materials, repairs, marketing, insurance, bank charges. Finocket's category grid covers these and learns your frequent picks; subcategories autocomplete from your history.
Which expenses can I claim for tax in India?
Any expense incurred wholly for the business reduces your taxable profit. For GST ITC specifically, the expense must be business-use, from a GST-registered supplier with their GSTIN on record — and not on the blocked-credit list (personal vehicles, food & beverages, club memberships).
What is reverse charge (RCM) on an expense?
Cases where you pay the GST to the government instead of the supplier — e.g. transport agencies, advocate fees, unregistered suppliers. Flip the RCM switch on the expense; Finocket reports it in GSTR-3B Section 3.1(d) and tracks the ITC where claimable.
What does "Mark ITC claimed" do?
After filing GSTR-3B, it stamps that month's eligible expenses as claimed so they leave the available-ITC pool and can't be counted again — each one gets an ITC-claimed chip on the Expenses list.
Is there an app that scans receipts and tracks expenses?
Yes — Finocket's Scan-to-Add photographs the bill, reads vendor, date, total and the GST details, and prefills the expense form. You confirm and save; the photo stays attached as proof, and the expense flows into your P&L and ITC like any other.
Does scanning capture GST for my ITC claim?
Where the bill prints them, the scan picks up the supplier GSTIN and the CGST/SGST/IGST amounts — the exact fields ITC needs. Verify them against the bill before saving, as with any claim.
Can I scan bills offline?
No — reading happens over the internet. Offline, record the expense by hand: what you type waits on the phone and goes up when you are back.
Is there a limit to how many bills I can scan?
There's a fair-use daily limit per workspace. Past it, hand entry still works, and the limit resets the next day.
Why didn't the scan fill in the supplier?
It should, and it now matches on the GSTIN before the name — across everyone on your books, not only parties already marked as suppliers. If the business was on file as a customer it is also marked a supplier rather than added again, since two rows for one business means two ledgers. It stays blank only when two of your parties match equally well, because filing a bill against the wrong supplier is worse than you picking one.
Where do the bill's line items go?
Into the expense's description, one per line with the quantity and rate where both were readable, along with anything the read could not make out. They also become real priced rows with stock going in — but only when every line matches something in your catalogue by name and the lines add up to what the bill says. Otherwise they stay as text, because the expense total is worked out from the rows once they exist, and one misread rate would replace a total that was right.
I scanned a bill I sent a customer — why won't it save as an expense?
Because recording it there would book money coming in as money going out. Finocket reads the direction of the document, and a bill you issued belongs on an invoice, which you raise in the app so the numbering, tax and the customer's terms come from your settings rather than the photo. If it misread a supplier's own invoice, choose "No, I paid this bill" and it fills in as normal.
Why is a category already filled in?
It starts as the category your workspace uses most, or the one the bill suggests, and carries a badge when it was suggested rather than chosen by you. Tap Change for the full list — what you pick is never overwritten by a later suggestion.
What is a day book and what should it contain?
A day book is the chronological register of every transaction — sales, purchases, receipts, payments — in the order they happened. Finocket builds it automatically from your vouchers with date filters, totals and a PDF export, so there's no separate register to maintain.
What's the difference between a cash book and a day book?
The day book records every transaction of any kind in date order; the cash book records only money movements, organised by mode (cash, UPI, bank, cheque). In Finocket the Day Book is your full feed and the Cashbook is the by-mode view of payments.
How do I maintain petty cash for a small business?
Record each small cash expense in Finocket as you go (press ⌥E / Alt+Shift+E) with the Cash mode; the Cashbook's Cash tab then is your petty-cash register, and the Day Book keeps it in context with everything else.
How do I remind a client about a pending invoice on WhatsApp?
Open Outstanding, long-press the invoice, choose Remind via WhatsApp — the message is pre-filled with the amount, invoice reference and the client-portal payment link.
What is a bank reconciliation statement (BRS)?
The working that explains the difference between your bank balance and your cash book: cheques not yet cleared, receipts not yet recorded, bank charges not yet booked. Finocket does the line-by-line matching for you so the differences surface as unmatched entries.
From: Bank reconciliation — match your statement to your books
How do I import my bank statement into Finocket?
Download the CSV from your bank's netbanking, upload it on the Bank reconciliation screen and label it. Finocket parses dates, amounts and narrations across the formats Indian banks commonly use.
From: Bank reconciliation — match your statement to your books
Does Finocket auto-match bank transactions to my invoices?
It suggests matches: for each statement line it finds recorded payments or expenses of the same amount within a few days of the date. You confirm each match with one tap — nothing is matched silently.
From: Bank reconciliation — match your statement to your books
Why doesn't my bank balance match my books?
Almost always: an unrecorded entry (bank charges, an expense paid directly from the account), a receipt you haven't entered, or timing (a cheque issued but not cleared). Reconcile the month and the unmatched lines show you exactly which.
From: Bank reconciliation — match your statement to your books
Can Finocket connect to my bank account directly?
Not yet — this is statement-import reconciliation, not a live bank feed. You bring the CSV, which keeps you in control of exactly what gets read.
From: Bank reconciliation — match your statement to your books
Can I reconcile a credit-card statement?
Yes. Add the card under Banking → Credit cards, then on the reconcile screen pick that card under Account before importing its statement. A card statement is the mirror of a bank's — Finocket flips the signs so a spend reads as money out (matching a recorded expense) and a payment reads as money in — then card spends match your expenses just like bank lines.
From: Bank reconciliation — match your statement to your books
How do I record paying my credit-card bill without double-counting?
When you pay the card bill from your bank, use Mark as card payoff to link the bank line (money out) to the card's payment line (money in). That records a contra — a transfer between the two accounts — so the original spends stay booked once as expenses and the payoff is never counted as a second expense. The two lines link atomically: neither is left showing as unmatched.
From: Bank reconciliation — match your statement to your books
Can Finocket tell me when unmatched lines are piling up?
Yes. The Unreconciled bank lines automation at /agents watches how many statement lines are still unmatched and how old the oldest one is, and speaks up when the pile is growing rather than shrinking. Reconciling is far quicker weekly than in one sitting at year-end, and this is what makes the weekly happen.
From: Bank reconciliation — match your statement to your books
Does the automation match the lines itself?
No. Matching stays one tap per line by you, exactly as on this page — nothing is ever matched silently, by you or by an automation. It counts what is waiting and brings it to your attention.
From: Bank reconciliation — match your statement to your books
Can Finocket auto-fetch my bank transactions?
Not yet. The bank-feed interface and a secure credential vault are built, but no Account Aggregator / bank-feed vendor is connected, so automatic fetch is not live. You import a statement CSV in the meantime — it does the same job manually.
Will a live feed reconcile differently from a CSV import?
No. A vendor adapter normalizes every fetched transaction into the exact same line shape the CSV parser produces — signed amount (money in positive, money out negative), ISO date, narration — so the matcher can't tell a fed line from an imported one. Everything you already trust about reconciliation holds unchanged.
Are my bank-feed credentials safe if I connect them?
Yes. Credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before they ever reach the database, are bound to your company so a copied row can't be decrypted elsewhere, are never shown again after saving, and only the company owner can manage them.
What can I do until live feeds are ready?
Download your statement as CSV and import it on Banking → Reconcile — HDFC, ICICI, SBI, Axis, Kotak, PNB, BoB, IDFC FIRST, Yes, IndusInd and Canara formats are auto-detected — and set up bank rules so recurring lines categorise themselves.
Can Finocket auto-charge my customers?
Not yet. The payment-gateway interface and a secure credential vault are built, and the mandate record is designed, but no gateway is connected and the mandate table is not migrated, so hosted checkout links and auto-charge are not live. UPI pay-now (a UPI intent link + QR on the portal and PDF) collects in the customer's own app in the meantime.
From: Hosted checkout & auto-charge — what is and isn't live
Does Finocket ever move money itself?
No — never. Finocket holds no funds, takes no card details and runs no charges. When a gateway is wired, the gateway hosts the payment page and executes every charge; Finocket only creates the link, records the outcome and reconciles it. A mandate can be charged only after the customer approves it, and only up to the ceiling they authorised.
From: Hosted checkout & auto-charge — what is and isn't live
Are my gateway credentials safe if I connect them?
Yes. Credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before they ever reach the database, are bound to your company so a copied row can't be decrypted elsewhere, are never shown again after saving, and only the company owner can manage them.
From: Hosted checkout & auto-charge — what is and isn't live
What can I do until auto-charge is ready?
Share the invoice — the client portal and the PDF already carry a UPI intent link and QR for the exact balance, so your customer pays in their own UPI app — and record the payment on Add → Payment when it lands. It flows into your books and receivables as usual.
From: Hosted checkout & auto-charge — what is and isn't live
Does my online shop use the same payment account?
Yes. The account you connect on Settings → Payment gateway is the account your shop collects into, and the money lands with your own provider — it never passes through Finocket. Your shop only ever uses a Live connection, never a Test one: a test payment would confirm an order nobody has actually paid for.
From: Hosted checkout & auto-charge — what is and isn't live
Can my shoppers just pay me on a UPI QR?
Yes, since 2026-09-11 — but it is a different thing from paying through your provider, and your shop says so. Publish your own UPI handle on Shop → Payments and shoppers can pay you directly; they upload the receipt and YOU confirm it against your own bank alert, because money sent that way goes straight from their phone to your bank and nothing tells Finocket it arrived. The order is not confirmed until you confirm it, and your customer is told that before they choose. UPI through your own payment provider does report back, so those orders confirm themselves. See 'Take UPI straight into your bank'. For an invoice, the UPI link and QR on the portal and the PDF still work exactly as before.
From: Hosted checkout & auto-charge — what is and isn't live
Why is PayU not on the list?
PayU's payment system requires your shopper's name, email address and phone number to be sent to PayU with every order — they are built into the signature it checks. Finocket does not hand a shopper's personal details to a payment company, so PayU is not offered. It is listed on the screen with that reason rather than being silently absent, and your provider's own payment page offers the same UPI, cards and netbanking without it.
From: Hosted checkout & auto-charge — what is and isn't live
My shop checkout says it cannot take payments — what does that mean?
One of four things, and the message says which. Either you have not connected a provider yet, or what is saved is missing one of its two keys — both of those are yours to fix on Settings → Payment gateway. Or we are holding your keys and cannot decrypt them, or could not read them at all; those are ours, and the first of the two asks you not to re-enter your keys, because that would overwrite keys that were never wrong. Your shopper is told nothing has been charged in every case.
From: Hosted checkout & auto-charge — what is and isn't live
What if Finocket cannot read my saved keys?
You are told that, specifically — it is a different thing from never having connected, and it is not yours to fix. Your keys are intact and re-entering them would overwrite the ones we already hold, so the message says not to reconnect. It means the key that encrypts them needs restoring on our side.
From: Hosted checkout & auto-charge — what is and isn't live
Is there an app to manage stock godown-wise?
Yes — in Finocket you add a godown per location, tag stock movements to one, and transfer between godowns with a matched pair of movements. The Inventory screen shows what's where.
Can I get a low-stock alert for my shop?
Set a reorder level per product; anything at or below it is highlighted on the Inventory screen, so you reorder before you run out.
Does billing reduce my stock automatically?
Yes. Raising a tax invoice or bill of supply with a tracked product draws the quantity down; a credit note puts a return back. No manual stock entry per sale.
How is my stock valued?
At weighted-average cost: each receipt blends into a running average and outgoing stock is valued at that average. This is the method accepted under Ind AS 2 for GST-era books.
Can I pick a specific batch while billing?
Not yet — sales draw down general stock rather than a chosen batch. Batches today are for receiving, expiry alerts and traceability.
Can I add freight or duty to a purchase so my stock cost is right?
Yes — that's landed costs. On a purchase bill with stock lines, add the freight, duty or clearing amount and choose whether to spread it by line value or by quantity. Finocket splits it across the received lines to the paise (any leftover paisa goes to the largest line) and raises each item's cost layers, so your FIFO/weighted-average valuation reflects the true landed cost, not just the invoice price. Each landed cost is applied once. See the item's cost-layers view on the Inventory screen.
What's the difference between a sales order and an invoice?
A sales order is the agreement to supply; the invoice is the tax document that records the sale. In Finocket the order carries no GST or income effect — converting it creates the invoice that does.
Does a purchase order affect my GST or expenses?
No. A PO is just your commitment to buy. Only when you convert it into a bill does the expense (and any ITC on it) enter your books.
Can I convert an order twice by mistake?
No — conversion is one-time. The order marks fulfilled and stays linked to the invoice or bill it produced.
Do orders reduce my stock?
No. Stock moves when the converted invoice (a real sale) or recorded purchase happens, not when the order is raised.
How do I reorder items that are low on stock?
On Inventory, the "Reorder soon" card has a Create draft PO button. It turns every item at or below its reorder level into DRAFT purchase order(s), grouped one per preferred vendor, using each item's reorder quantity (or its reorder level if you haven't set one). It's always a draft you review and confirm — nothing is ever sent to a supplier automatically.
Can Finocket draft a purchase order automatically when stock runs low?
Yes — set up a workflow rule on the stock.low event with the "Draft purchase order" action. When an item hits its reorder level the rule drafts a PO for you, once per low-stock event. It is a DRAFT only: you review and confirm it before it becomes a real order.
How do I compare vendor quotes before ordering?
Open the RFQ board (RFQ button on Orders). Create an RFQ with the items and quantities you want quoted, record a quote from each vendor, and the compare grid highlights the best price per item. Convert the winning quote to a purchase order at its quoted prices exactly — the other quotes stay untouched, and a quote can only convert once.
How do I see branch-wise profit and loss?
Create a cost centre per branch, tag each invoice and expense to its branch as you record it, then open the Cost centres report for any date range — income, expenses and net per branch, side by side.
From: Cost centres — profit & loss per branch, project or team
What happens to entries I forget to tag?
They roll into the Unassigned row of the report, so the totals always reconcile with your overall P&L. Retag an entry any time by editing it.
From: Cost centres — profit & loss per branch, project or team
Can one invoice or expense belong to more than one cost centre?
Yes — on the invoice or expense form, use "Split across cost centres" to divide the amount by percentage. The shares must total 100%; the amount is split to the paisa (the last share absorbs any rounding), and the per-centre P&L still ties exactly to your overall P&L. A transaction with no split just uses its single cost centre as before.
From: Cost centres — profit & loss per branch, project or team
Can I delete a cost centre I no longer use?
Archive it instead — past tagging stays intact so historical reports keep working; the centre just stops appearing in pickers.
From: Cost centres — profit & loss per branch, project or team
Is a cost centre the same as a project?
They overlap: projects track work and billing, cost centres track profitability slices. Use a cost centre when you want a P&L for the slice — you can have one per project, per branch or per team.

Does my Shop affiliates programme's commission show up here?
Yes, automatically. Turning on the Shop affiliates preset creates an Affiliates cost centre for you, and every commission expense your monthly statement books posts to it at finalize — no tagging needed. Open the Cost centres report to see that channel's real cost against what it brought in.

Is there a simple time tracker for freelancers in India?
Yes — Finocket's Timer is one screen: pick the client (and optionally the project), describe the task, set your ₹/hour rate, tap Start. It lives inside the same app as your clients and invoices, so tracked hours and billing sit in one place.
From: Projects & time tracking — organise work and track billable hours
How do I know how much my day's work is worth?
Mark entries billable and give each a rate; the Timer page totals today's hours and multiplies billable time by rate into a live value figure. At day's end you know exactly what to bill without a spreadsheet.
From: Projects & time tracking — organise work and track billable hours
Can Finocket turn tracked hours into an invoice?
Yes. The Unbilled time card on the Timer page groups finished billable entries by client. Tap Create invoice, choose the entries, pick Detailed (one line per entry) or Summary (one combined line), set a default rate for entries without one, and Finocket creates a draft invoice. Entries are marked billed so nothing bills twice; deleting the draft releases them.
From: Projects & time tracking — organise work and track billable hours
Can I run two timers at once for different clients?
No — one open timer per user, deliberately. Stop the current timer before starting the next; each stopped entry lands in today's list with its own client, duration and rate, so switching tasks stays honest.
From: Projects & time tracking — organise work and track billable hours
How do I change a project's status from Planned to Ongoing?
Right now the status is set when you create the project and there's no edit screen to change it later, so pick the status that fits at creation. Project editing is a known gap on the roadmap.
From: Projects & time tracking — organise work and track billable hours
Can I fix a timer entry after stopping it?
You can delete an entry and its time is removed from the totals, but there's no edit-after-stop yet. If a timer ran long, delete the entry — re-tracking a short correction entry is the current workaround.
From: Projects & time tracking — organise work and track billable hours
How do I apply one payment to several invoices?
On Add payment, pick the client and amount, then the bill-allocation panel lists their open invoices. Type how much of the receipt goes to each; a running allocated / on-account total keeps you honest. Each invoice flips to paid when its allocations cover its total.
What's the difference between New Ref and Against Ref?
Against Ref settles an invoice that already exists — the everyday case. New Ref earmarks part of the receipt against a specific invoice as a first-time reference (an advance tied to that bill). Both are bounded by the invoice's outstanding; the unallocated remainder simply stays on account.
Can I accidentally allocate more than the invoice or the receipt?
No. Each allocation must be more than zero and no more than that invoice's outstanding, and the sum can never exceed the receipt — enforced in the database itself, so an over-allocation is refused whether you do it in the app or over the API.
Does a bill-wise receipt get double-counted against receivables?
Never. An allocation is the detail of the same paid amount, not an extra payment, and each rupee is attributed to at most one invoice (or to on-account). The per-bill balances reconcile exactly with the receivables ageing on Outstanding.
How does Finocket pick which rate to bill?
By the most-specific matching card, in a fixed order: project + member, then project, then client + member, then client, then member, then the company default. The same time entry always resolves to the same rate — it's deterministic.
What if two rate cards could both apply?
The tie is broken by the latest effective-from date on or before the entry's date. A card dated after the entry is ignored entirely, so raising a rate mid-year never re-prices work you already tracked.
Can I override the rate on a single invoice line?
Yes. When you build the invoice from tracked time, an override on any line wins over the matched card — and the card it beat is still shown, so you can see the standard rate you departed from.
What happens if no rate card matches an entry?
The line falls back to the entry's own rate — exactly the behaviour from before rate cards existed. Rate cards are additive: without one, billing is identical to a flat hourly rate.
Who has to file GSTR-9?
GST-registered businesses above the turnover exemption threshold (regular taxpayers; composition dealers file GSTR-9A instead, and GSTR-9C audit reconciliation applies above the higher turnover band). Check the current year's notification or ask your CA — thresholds get revised.
Is Finocket's GSTR-9 view an actual filing?
No — it's a computed working from your books, structured like the return's tables so preparation and cross-checking are fast. You file on the GST portal or through your CA.
Why don't the annual numbers match my monthly returns?
The annual view is rebuilt from your recorded books, while the monthly returns are what you actually filed. A gap usually means something was recorded after filing, filed from outside Finocket, or netted in a different period — exactly the differences GSTR-9 exists to surface.
Can my CA see this directly?
Yes — invite them read-only and they open the same working tables live, alongside your statements and the Hand-to-CA export.
How do I track budget vs actual for my business?
Set a budget per category, ledger or for the whole business (monthly or yearly) in Budgets & variance; Finocket fills in actuals from your recorded expenses and income and shows the variance, flagged over/under.
What is a good current ratio for a small business?
Around 1.5–2 is commonly considered comfortable — enough current assets to cover current liabilities without hoarding idle cash. Finocket computes yours live and shows the formula so you can see what's driving it.
Why does a ratio show NA?
There isn't enough data to compute it — usually a zero denominator (e.g. no debt for debt-to-equity, or no assets recorded yet). Record the relevant entries and it fills in.
Can my CA use these instead of building them in Excel?
Yes — invite them read-only; the ratios and variance report compute from the same trial balance they'd otherwise export, with formulas shown.
Can Finocket email me a report automatically?
Yes — open Reports → Scheduled reports, pick a report, a frequency (daily/weekly/monthly), a format (PDF or CSV) and the recipient emails. Finocket renders and emails it on a schedule; the file matches the on-screen report exactly.
Is a scheduled report ever sent twice for the same period?
No. Each period is sent exactly once — a failed send retries on the next run, but a period that already went out is never re-sent.
What happens if email sending isn't set up?
The schedule page shows an honest 'Connect email sending' state and the job records the run as skipped — it never simulates a send. Set up sending from Settings → Sending & deliverability and schedules start delivering.
Who can create or pause a schedule?
Anyone with Reports write access (owners and assistants). An invited accountant with read-only access can see the schedules but not change them.
What is the difference between a scheduled report and the Weekly business review automation?
A scheduled report emails you the same report you would have opened yourself — the numbers, nothing added. The Weekly business review automation at /agents reads the week against the weeks before it and tells you what moved: which customer slowed down, where a cost crept up, what is still unpaid. Plenty of owners run both — the report for the record, the review for the reading.
Does the weekly review get emailed to my CA or my customers?
No. An automation never sends anything to anyone outside your team on its own — the review lands in your own notifications and in Activity. If your CA should have it, a scheduled report to their address is the right tool, because that is a send you set up yourself.
What is a bill of materials with an example?
The list of components and quantities needed to make a finished product — e.g. one batch of 10 chairs needs 20 legs, 10 seats and 2 litres of polish. In Finocket the BOM also carries the output quantity and rolls up the per-unit cost automatically.
How do I manage raw material stock for production?
Track your raw materials in Inventory, buy them in via expenses (Stock items section), then record production runs against a BOM — Finocket consumes the materials and adds finished goods in one save, with every movement in the item ledgers.
How are my finished goods valued?
At the BOM's rolled-up standard cost — the sum of component costs per unit, plus any routing labour — which flows into the weighted-average valuation your reports use.
What are work centers and routing?
Optional. Route a BOM through ordered steps at named work centers (a saw, a bench, a team), each with an hourly cost. Each step draws its own components; finished goods appear only at the final step; and each step's labour (minutes × the work center's rate) rolls into the finished cost. Components you don't assign to a step are drawn at the final step, so the totals always match the BOM — routing never creates or loses material. A BOM with no routing runs exactly as before.
Do I need Inventory turned on to use Manufacturing?
Yes — Manufacturing moves stock, so the components and finished products involved should have Track inventory on. Untracked items are ignored by runs.
How do I post a manual journal entry?
Open Add → Journal, pick the voucher type, add at least two lines and set each to Dr or Cr. The footer keeps a running debit total, credit total and difference, and Save only enables once the two agree.
Why is my journal Save button disabled?
Because the entry does not balance. Finocket will not post an unbalanced voucher at all — not with a warning and not into a suspense account. The footer shows the exact difference.
Can I create an account without leaving the voucher?
Yes. Type a new name in the account picker and create it inline. Finocket files it under the right group and tells you which one.
How do I reverse a journal voucher I posted by mistake?
Post an equal and opposite entry. Finocket does not delete a posted voucher, so both the mistake and its correction stay on the record — which is what an audit trail is for.
Do the Tally voucher shortcuts work?
Yes: F7 Journal, F5 Payment, F6 Receipt, F4 Contra and Alt+F5 Debit note switch the voucher type from anywhere on the screen. Setting Accounting terminology to Accountant also turns the ledger into Ledger Vouchers with a Tally-style header.
Why did changing the period on the ledger change my Trial Balance too?
They share one books period on purpose, so you can never compare two reports cut over different dates without noticing.
Does Finocket collect the payment at the counter?
No. There is no card reader, no printer and no payout on this screen. Cash records the sale; UPI shows a QR built from the counter's UPI ID. Money reaches you through your own UPI or till exactly as it does today.
Finocket cannot see if the customer actually paid — so what does Confirm mean?
It is your word, not the bank's. Check your own UPI app before tapping Confirm payment received; Finocket records what you tell it happened.
Do I have to open a register?
It is optional but recommended. Without one the screen warns that cash sales will not be reconciled. Closing a register asks for the counted cash, and for anything paid out of the drawer, and tells you the over or short.
My shelf prices already include GST. Do I have to tick the box every shift?
No. Tick 'Prices include GST' once and it is saved for your whole business — every till, every reload, every shift. It was a per-browser setting until 12 September 2026, which meant forgetting it added tax on top of a price that already contained it.
I refunded a customer in cash and the day-close says I am short. Why?
Money you hand back leaves the drawer. Enter it as cash paid out when you close the register, with a line saying what it was for, and the close subtracts it instead of calling it a shortage. Sessions closed before 12 September 2026 have no payout recorded — they were never asked, and Finocket has not gone back and invented one.
The till says it cannot read my counters and will not take payment. What now?
Tap Try again. The till does not know which counter, shop or bill series the sale belongs to, so a bill rung now would carry a number from the wrong series and be credited to no shop. If you have no counters set up at all, open the till once with a signal so it knows that, and it will sell normally from then on.
Can a failed checkout charge the customer twice?
No. Retrying settles the invoice already created rather than minting a second one, and editing the cart clears that pending invoice so a stale basket cannot be settled.
Why is the UPI button refusing?
No UPI ID is set — on the terminal or your business profile. Add one under Settings → POS terminals.
Does point of sale work offline?
No. Unlike most of Finocket, the till needs a connection.
What is a three-way match?
Checking that what you ordered, what actually arrived and what you were billed all agree, before you pay the supplier. Finocket does it line by line per purchase order and names each exception.
From: Three-way match — what you ordered, received and were billed
What exceptions does it flag?
Over-receipt (more arrived than ordered), over-bill (billed for more than arrived) and price variance (billed rate differs from the PO rate).
From: Three-way match — what you ordered, received and were billed
Can I record more than I ordered?
Yes — nothing stops you. It posts and then shows as an over-receipt exception to explain. Finocket assumes the goods really did arrive; the exception exists so nobody pays for them by accident.
From: Three-way match — what you ordered, received and were billed
Does recording a goods receipt have a draft step?
No. Saving posts the receipt straight away and updates stock. Check the quantities first — correcting afterwards means posting an adjustment, not editing the receipt away.
From: Three-way match — what you ordered, received and were billed
Does a failed match block payment?
No. The match is information for you, not an approval gate. Use Approvals if you want sign-off before money moves.
From: Three-way match — what you ordered, received and were billed
What happens to a bill that points at a line not on the PO?
It is collected in an Unmatched card rather than hidden, so a mis-keyed line number surfaces instead of quietly disappearing.
From: Three-way match — what you ordered, received and were billed
How many currencies does Finocket support?
Sixteen. Every foreign-currency document is converted back to your home currency for your reports.
If I change an exchange rate, do my old invoices change?
No. Every invoice snapshots the rate at issue-date time and keeps it, so historic figures stay reproducible. A rate change applies to documents issued from then on.
Does Finocket fetch live exchange rates?
No — the rates are the ones you enter. That is deliberate: a figure in your books should be one you can point at a source for, not one that moved while you were not looking.
What happens if a rate is missing?
Your dashboard warns you that an invoice or payment has no rate, rather than converting it at 1:1 or leaving it out silently.
What is the difference between this and foreign-currency revaluation?
This screen sets the rates documents are issued at. Revaluation restates your still-open foreign-currency balances at a period-end rate — a separate job with its own guide.
FIFO or weighted average — which valuation should I use for GST-era books?
Both are permitted under Ind AS 2 (LIFO is not). Weighted average is simpler, smooths out purchase-price swings, and is what Finocket uses: each receipt blends into a running average cost, applied consistently across your statements.
What is the formula for cost of goods sold?
Opening stock + purchases during the period − closing stock. Finocket computes each term from your stock ledger and shows COGS and gross profit on the P&L when Include inventory is on.
Why doesn't closing stock appear in my trial balance?
Because it's a presentation overlay, not a posted journal entry — the trial balance shows only real postings. The balance sheet and P&L present the stock figures on top without disturbing your audit trail.
My gross profit looks wrong — what should I check?
Usually missing purchase entries (stock added without cost), an unrecorded physical adjustment, or sales of untracked items. Fix the stock ledger — the overlay recomputes instantly.
Does Finocket support both SLM and WDV depreciation?
Yes. SLM charges a fixed amount each month (cost minus salvage over the useful life); WDV charges a percentage of the reducing book value so the charge tapers. Both compute in whole paise with a salvage floor, and the final month absorbs any rounding, so the schedule sums to the depreciable base exactly.
How is the first month's depreciation calculated?
Depreciation starts from the put-to-use date (falling back to the purchase date) and the first month is pro-rated by the days actually in use. Put an asset to use on the 20th and only those days are charged — no full-month charge for a part-month asset.
What journal does posting depreciation create?
A balanced one: Dr Depreciation (expense) and Cr Accumulated Depreciation (against the asset), so your trial balance still foots to zero. It's idempotent per asset and period — running the same month again does nothing, so depreciation is never double-charged.
How is gain or loss on selling an asset handled?
Record the disposal date and amount; no depreciation is charged for the disposal month or after, and the disposals view shows the gain or loss on each sale — the difference between the proceeds and the asset's net book value at that point.
What does a revaluation run do?
It takes every still-open foreign-currency receivable and payable, compares its booked home value against its value at the period-end closing rate you enter, and posts the resulting unrealized gain or loss. Rupee balances and currencies with no rate on file are left untouched — an all-rupee book is an honest no-op.
Does revaluation keep my books balanced?
Yes. The run writes a balanced journal — receivables that gained restate against Unrealized Forex Gain, payables you owe more on against Unrealized Forex Loss — with debits equal to credits to the paise, so the trial balance still foots to zero.
Can I re-run or undo a period's revaluation?
Each period runs once; a second run does nothing, so the gain or loss is never counted twice. Because it's a period-end adjustment, it's fully reversible — reverse it and a mirror journal nets it back to zero, after which the period can be re-run with fresh rates.
Does this cover the gain when the invoice is finally paid?
Not yet. This is the period-end unrealized restatement while the invoice is still open. The realized gain or loss when it's actually settled at a different rate isn't posted automatically yet, and statements are always presented in your home currency. Confirm with your CA before filing.
How do I spread an annual invoice across the year?
On Deferred revenue & expense, point a schedule at the invoice, set the number of months and the start month. Finocket divides the total evenly, putting any leftover paisa on the final period, so the monthly slices add back to the total exactly.
Won't the income be counted twice?
No. Because the invoice already booked its full revenue up front, a deferral first moves the whole amount to a balance-sheet holding account, then recognises it back one month at a time. The net effect is the amount recognised exactly once, just spread over the schedule.
What happens to the deferral account at the end?
It returns to zero. The holding account (Deferred Revenue as a liability, or Prepaid/Deferred Expense as an asset) fills on setup and empties as each period recognises, so once the last period runs there's nothing left parked on the balance sheet.
Do I have to post each month by hand?
No. As each period's month arrives, the recognition runner posts that slice's balanced voucher. It's idempotent — an already-recognised period is skipped — so income or cost is never double-counted however often it runs.
What can I put on the dashboard?
Any saved report from the report builder, shown one of four ways: a number (the report's headline total), a table of its rows, a bar chart, or a line chart. Add as many widgets as you like and size each small, medium or large.
Do the widgets show live data or a saved snapshot?
Live. A widget stores only a reference to its report, never a copy of the data — so every time you open the dashboard it re-runs the report against your current books. Edit the underlying saved report and its widget follows on the next load.
What happens if I delete a report a widget points to?
The widget doesn't crash and it doesn't show old numbers — it renders a plain "report deleted" tile, so you know to point it at another report or remove it.
Can everyone on my team see every widget's numbers?
A widget only shows its data to someone who can read that report's dataset. A teammate whose access to, say, invoices was removed won't see an invoices widget's numbers, and an invited accountant reads the dashboard.
Can Finocket send me a summary of my books each morning?
Yes. A dashboard shows you the numbers when you go and look; the Morning books briefing automation brings them to you. Set it up on the Automations screen at /agents and it reads yesterday — what came in, what went out, what went overdue — and leaves a short summary waiting before you open the app.
Does the morning briefing cost me anything on a quiet day?
A briefing always has a day to summarise, so unlike a watching automation it reaches the AI on every run — about ₹0.29 a time, so roughly ₹8.70 a month for a weekday-morning briefing. The figure is shown on screen before you switch it on.
Will my rent expense post even if I don't open the app?
Yes — a daily server-side job materialises due rules for everyone, so entries post on schedule regardless of whether the app is opened.
Can I set a quarterly or fortnightly schedule?
Yes — every frequency takes an "every N" multiplier: monthly × 3 is quarterly, weekly × 2 is fortnightly.
Can Finocket send a recurring invoice automatically?
Yes — create a rule with the Invoice type. Each run creates a draft invoice on your numbering series with the client and line items from the rule; you review the draft and send it, so nothing goes out unchecked.
What happens when I pause a rule?
Nothing posts while paused; the rule keeps its next-run pointer and resumes exactly where it left off when you switch it back on.
How do I see what is about to renew before it posts?
The Renewals and recurring due automation at /agents looks ahead at your rules and tells you what is due to post in the coming days — a retainer whose amount you meant to revise, a subscription nobody uses any more, an invoice draft that will be created on Friday. Set it up on the Automations screen at /agents.
Does that replace the daily server run that posts my rules?
No, and it is worth keeping the two apart. Your rules post on the daily server run whether or not any automation is switched on. The automation is only a look ahead, so you have time to revise or pause a rule before it fires — it posts nothing itself, and it sends none of the invoice drafts.
Which investments qualify for 80C — ELSS, NPS, PF?
ELSS mutual funds, PPF, EPF and life-insurance premiums count toward the ₹1.5 lakh Section 80C limit; NPS has its own extra ₹50,000 under 80CCD(1B). In Finocket, the 80C switch is pre-set per investment type, and the progress bar totals only 80C-flagged entries.
How do I reconcile TDS with Form 26AS?
Record the TDS amount on every income entry as it's deducted. The TDS deducted card on the Income page gives your running total for the year — match it line by line against Form 26AS/AIS before filing, and chase any deductor whose credit is missing.
A client deducted 10% TDS under 194J — how do I get it back?
That 10% is an advance tax credit, not a cost. Log it in the TDS field on the income entry, verify it appears in your 26AS, then claim it in your ITR. If your final tax is lower, the excess comes back as a refund.
Do freelancers need GST registration?
Only once your turnover crosses ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh in special-category states), or if you sell through platforms that require it. Below that you can invoice without GST. Finocket works either way — turn the GST module on only when you register.
What is Section 44ADA presumptive taxation?
Eligible professionals with gross receipts up to ₹75 lakh can declare 50% of receipts as income and skip detailed books. Your Income list in Finocket gives you the gross-receipts figure that 44ADA is computed on. Confirm eligibility with your CA.
Can I edit an income or investment entry?
Not yet — entries are add and delete only. If you've entered a wrong amount or date, delete the entry (you'll be asked to confirm) and add it again. Edit support is on the roadmap.
What sales pipeline stages should a small business use?
Finocket's default six work for most: New, Qualified, Proposal, Negotiation, Won, Lost. Start there, set rot-days per stage so stuck deals surface, and only add stages when a real hand-off exists. Fewer stages you actually move deals through beat many you ignore.
From: CRM & deals — pipeline, follow-ups and the customer ledger
Does Finocket CRM work with WhatsApp?
Yes. Every deal's Follow up button opens a template and sends via WhatsApp — your own number through wa.me, or the WhatsApp Business API if you've connected one. The send is logged on the deal's timeline and you're prompted to schedule the next action.
From: CRM & deals — pipeline, follow-ups and the customer ledger
Is there a CRM that also does billing?
That's Finocket's whole point: the CRM sits inside your accounting, so a deal card shows the client's real outstanding and paid amounts, and a stage can auto-advance to Won when payment is collected. One app, one client record, no export-import between tools.
From: CRM & deals — pipeline, follow-ups and the customer ledger
Can I import my existing customer list?
Yes — Clients → Import takes a CSV up to 10,000 rows with auto-mapped columns and duplicate preview. You must declare where each contact's consent came from; contacts without declared consent are stored suppressed so you stay DPDP-safe. Assistants can import; accountants can't.
From: CRM & deals — pipeline, follow-ups and the customer ledger
Why can't I drag deals between columns?
Stage moves use the picker on each card instead of drag-and-drop — it's precise on touch screens and works one-handed on a phone. Select the new stage from the card (or the deal page) and the board updates instantly.
From: CRM & deals — pipeline, follow-ups and the customer ledger
Can a 5-person team share one pipeline?
Yes. Invite teammates as assistants and everyone works the same board, deals, follow-ups and tasks — one shared pipeline, no per-person silos. Your accountant can watch it read-only.
From: CRM & deals — pipeline, follow-ups and the customer ledger
Can something tell me which deals have gone quiet?
Yes. The Pipeline check automation at /agents reads the board against your rot-days and brings you the deals that have stopped moving, the follow-ups now overdue, and anything sitting in Proposal longer than it should. Think of it as the focus strip delivered to you, on the mornings there is something in it.
From: CRM & deals — pipeline, follow-ups and the customer ledger
Will it follow up with the customer for me?
No. It can draft the follow-up for a deal that has gone quiet; sending is still your tap, and the send still runs through the usual consent and quiet-hours rules. Nothing an automation writes reaches a customer on its own.
From: CRM & deals — pipeline, follow-ups and the customer ledger
Which channels can capture a lead automatically?
Hosted forms, landing pages, QR scans, booking pages, WhatsApp messages (including voice notes), calls and missed calls, inbound email, inbound SMS, and a voice note you record yourself. Every channel dedupes by phone or email, so a returning contact never becomes a second lead.
How is the lead grade calculated?
Points from facts and behaviour add up, and the total is capped at 100: A at 75+, B at 50+, C at 25+, D below. The built-in rules can add up to 110, so a lead that does everything reaches the cap — the score shows 100 and the points list underneath still shows every point it earned, so you can see it went over. Defaults reward a reachable contact (email, phone, GSTIN), engagement (form fill, QR scan, email open or click, three page views) and partner referrals, and every rule is editable in CRM settings.
What happens if nobody responds to a lead in time?
Each new lead gets a due time from your first-response window (15 minutes by default). Logging the first call, message, email or meeting stops the clock; if the due time passes without contact, the lead is flagged as breached and escalated so it can't slip silently.
Can leads be assigned to a specific salesperson?
Yes — a routing rule either rotates turns evenly across the team (round-robin) or pins a source or campaign to one person. There were briefly three options listed, but the third behaved exactly like round-robin, so it has been removed rather than left to mislead; balancing by who currently has the most open leads is not something Finocket does yet.
Does Finocket write my returns policy for me?
No, and it will not ship a template either. A returns policy is a contract term — wording we wrote and you did not read would become your promise to your customer and our sentence in your dispute. Ask whoever advises you on contracts, or your CA.
Why does my shop say it cannot publish a grievance officer?
Because there is nowhere in Finocket to record one yet. We say that plainly rather than leaving a blank you would read as your own oversight — and we do not fall back to Finocket's own complaints address, because that would make us the people your customers complain to.
Can I write my policies in my own language?
Yes. Your shop finds each policy by what it is rather than by its English name, so a returns policy addressed in Telugu or Tamil is still found and still linked.
What happens if two offers both apply to one bill?
By default they compete and the customer gets whichever single offer saves the most — two unrelated promotions landing on one bill is usually an accident of timing rather than generosity you planned. Turn on 'Can run alongside other offers' for the ones you do want combined; those are added on top of the best competing one.
Is a second discount taken off the already-discounted price?
No. Every offer is worked out against the original price. Two 10% offers on a ₹1,000 bill take ₹200, not ₹190 — otherwise the total would depend on which offer the till looked at first, and two tills could print different receipts for the same basket.
Which items are free in a buy-2-get-1 offer?
The cheapest ones, which is what a shop's own signage means by it. Quantity counts across the whole basket, so three of the same item is three units and the offer applies.
If I delete an offer, do I lose the record of what it discounted?
Offers are switched off rather than deleted, and a discount already given keeps the offer's name on it either way. That is what makes 'what did we give away last month, and on which offer' answerable.
Which courier can I set up without talking to anyone?
Shiprocket and Delhivery. Shiprocket issues an API key from its own panel (create a separate API user — it rejects the account you sign in with), and Delhivery's token comes from Delhivery One, under its own Settings menu, at API Setup. Blue Dart needs a commercial account with them first, and its LoginID, Licence Key and Customer Code are emailed to you by an account manager rather than generated in a portal.
Why does Finocket need my pickup pincode?
Rates and serviceability in India are pincode-to-pincode, so no courier will quote or confirm anything without knowing where the parcel starts. It is asked once and reused for every booking.
What happens to parcels already shipped if I disconnect a courier?
They keep their tracking numbers and keep naming who is carrying them. Disconnecting only stops new bookings — Finocket never deletes a shipment record.
Can I ship internationally?
Not from this screen yet. Blue Dart is DHL's India domestic business and its API here has no international product; DHL Express is a separate service. Tell us if you need it.
Is the points balance on this screen every point my customers are holding?
Yes — it is totalled over every entry in the points ledger. Until 12 September 2026 a programme with more than about a thousand ledger entries was totalled from the first thousand only, so the points outstanding — the amount your customers can still spend, which your books carry as a liability — read lower than it really was. Busy programmes should expect that figure to go UP, and the points-expiring-soon warning to cover more than it did.
Why did my points liability jump without anyone earning points?
It did not jump — it was being under-reported and is now counted in full. See the question above. Nothing about how points are earned, redeemed or expired has changed, and no customer's balance was altered.
Why didn't a Gmail lead create an account?
Personal mail domains (Gmail, Yahoo and the like) don't imply a company, so those leads stay individual contacts. Accounts are created from business email domains.
Can I edit what an account knows about the company?
The account's details (GSTIN, state, industry, annual revenue) display on the account page, and its people, deals and timeline roll up automatically as leads arrive.
How do I reach the safety officer instead of the front desk?
On the account page, set each person's role under People by role — compliance lead, safety officer, facility manager, quality, operations, legal, finance, purchase, HR, IT, admin or reception. Mark one person as the primary for a role and that's who outreach uses for it.
Can two people be primary for the same role?
No. One primary per role, per company — so there's never a question of which safety officer you meant. Marking someone new as primary moves the badge across automatically.
What's the difference between a role and a job title?
The job title is what the person calls themselves and is free text. The role is what they do for you, chosen from a fixed list, which is what makes it searchable and targetable. Both are shown; setting a role never overwrites a title.
Can Finocket make up a fact about a company?
No. A fact cannot be saved without the page it came from, the exact words it was read out of, and the time we read them — the database itself refuses a row missing any of those. Anything that can't be tied back to the page word for word is thrown away before you see it.
Does reading a page save anything?
No. Reading lists what the page says and shows you the sentence behind each item. Nothing is kept until you tick it, and Finocket reads the page again as it saves so the words have to still be there.
What happens if I take a fact back?
The record of it is kept, but it leaves the list and nothing can quote it again — including the brief. Saving it afresh reads the page again, so it becomes a new reading rather than an old one restored.
Why is the brief sometimes empty?
Because every sentence has to be supported by a fact you saved, and a sentence stating anything those facts don't support is dropped. An empty brief means nothing sourced supports a summary yet — not that there's nothing to say.
Which pages can be read?
Ordinary public web pages over http or https. Addresses on a private network, files and anything that isn't readable text are refused. Scripts, styles and hidden comments are ignored, so a number tucked away in a page's code can never become a fact.
Do I need my own AI key?
Only to have pages read for you. Without a provider connected you're asked to connect one and nothing is invented in the meantime; you can still keep facts by hand, and they go through exactly the same checks.
Where are the files I upload kept, and who can see them?
In private storage that has no public address at all. Opening a file creates a link that works for a few minutes and then stops, so nothing can be shared by accident or left behind in a browser history. Your team sees the library the same way it sees company accounts; nobody outside your workspace can reach it.
If I delete a document, is it really gone?
Yes — the stored copy is removed along with the entry, not just hidden. Any record that was relying on that file immediately goes back to showing it as needed, so nothing ever reports itself finished on the strength of a file nobody can open. The same happens when a customer asks you to erase what you hold about them.
How do I get told before something runs out?
Give the record — or the file you hold against it — an end date. Each kind of record says how much notice it wants (thirty days to start with). When that window is reached, Finocket raises it as an event your automation rules can act on: notify you, email the customer, call a webhook, or open the next one as a draft. You're told once per cycle, not every day, and anything sent to a customer still passes the same consent checks as every other message.
Does Finocket come with a ready-made list of things to track?
No, and that's deliberate. You create the kinds your business actually handles, so the names on screen are your team's words. A built-in list would be wrong for most businesses and impossible to change without waiting on us.
Can two kinds of record use a field with the same name?
Yes. Field names are unique inside one kind, not across all of them, so you never have to invent prefixes to keep them apart.
What happens if I set up a rule wrongly?
The record says so in plain words and reports nothing as checked, rather than skipping the rule quietly. A record must never call itself finished because a rule failed to run.
Will I be warned before something runs out?
Yes. Anything with an end date is flagged a set number of days ahead — you choose how many — and again once the date has passed. A date that hasn't arrived yet is shown as a heads-up, never as a failure.
Can my team see each other's records?
Yes. Records are shared across the workspace the same way company accounts are: everyone you've invited can see them, and the people with write access can change them.
Do I need UTM tags on every link?
Campaign emails tag their own links automatically (auto-tagging is on by default). For everything else — posters, bios, ads — build the link once in the UTM builder with the campaign's tags and share it everywhere.
What's the difference between first-touch, last-touch and linear attribution?
First credits the touch that discovered you, last credits the touch just before conversion, and linear splits revenue evenly across every touch — computed to the paisa with the rounding remainder placed deterministically, so the totals always tie.
Why does the funnel report say 'collected' instead of revenue?
It counts payments you actually recorded from that campaign's leads — not invoices raised or deals promised. It's the honest number to hold a campaign budget against.
My Facebook links show as two different sources — why?
Two spellings ('fb' and 'facebook') were used before the vocabulary registry folded them. Add the alias in the UTM builder's registry and future links normalise to one canonical source.
Why is my WhatsApp/telephony channel not receiving anything?
Each inbound webhook stays switched off (answering 'not found') until its token is configured and the endpoint is registered in your provider's dashboard. The Developers page lists the endpoint per channel — connect it and messages start flowing.
From: Inbox — every inbound message, call and enquiry in one place
Does a missed call really become a lead?
Yes — your telephony provider posts the call event, and a missed or unanswered call files as a lead marked missed, so the callback happens from your Leads board instead of a phone log.
From: Inbox — every inbound message, call and enquiry in one place
What happens when someone texts STOP?
Inbound SMS honours STOP and START automatically — consent is updated and the send checkpoint blocks further messages until they opt back in.
From: Inbox — every inbound message, call and enquiry in one place
Can the chatbot make something up?
No. It can only reply with sentences out of the answers you wrote, and every sentence is checked against the answer it came from before it is sent — the same check that stops Finocket's assistant stating a figure your books do not support. A question your answers do not cover gets no answer at all and is handed to you.
Is it safe that the snippet key is visible on my website?
Yes. The chat only answers on the web addresses you listed, so somebody who copies your snippet onto a site of their own gets nothing — and gets exactly the same reply as they would for a key that does not exist, so they cannot even tell it is real.
Will it reply on WhatsApp to someone who opted out?
No. Every WhatsApp reply goes through the same consent check as any other message Finocket sends, so an opt-out blocks it and the refusal is recorded in your message log. A message saying STOP is treated as an opt-out rather than as a question.
What happens on WhatsApp outside the 24-hour window?
Nothing is sent unless you have nominated an approved template — WhatsApp only allows a free-form reply within 24 hours of the customer's own message. Without a template the attempt is recorded as blocked with that reason, so you can see it happened rather than wondering why the customer never heard back.
Does it need an AI provider or an AI plan?
No. It matches the visitor's question against your written answers and replies with your words — no model is involved on that path at all, so it costs nothing per conversation and cannot drift over time.
How do I know what to write next?
The conversation list shows the questions the bot had no answer for. That is the list to write from — every one of them is a real visitor asking something your answers do not yet cover.
Can Finocket reply to my mail from triage?
No — and not by configuration either. There is no reply box on the triage screen and no send path behind it. Everything Finocket sends goes out from a screen that shows you the recipient and checks their consent first; triage is a reading and filing tool, so it has no send path at all.
Why do I need an app password instead of just signing in with Google?
The Google and Microsoft sign-in buttons ask for permission to SEND only, so a mailbox connected that way cannot be read at all. An app password uses IMAP, which can list and fetch messages — that is what makes triage possible, and it also works on Zoho Mail, Fastmail and your own mail server, which the sign-in route never covered.
Does triage mark my mail as read?
No. Reads use IMAP PEEK, so a message you look at here is still unread in your own mail app.
Does Finocket store copies of my emails?
No. Triage works from the sender, the subject and a short summary, and it re-reads the mailbox each time you open the screen. When you approve a suggestion, what gets saved is a timeline entry with the date, the subject and that short summary — never the message body, and never an attachment.
Can the same message be filed twice?
No. A filed message is marked Filed and refuses a second attempt, including from another device. Triage identifies a message by its Message-ID rather than its position in the mailbox, so moving it to a folder does not make it look like new mail.
I set something aside by mistake. Do my colleagues see that?
No — 'Not relevant' is personal, like an unread mark. Your colleagues still see the message in their own triage list, and you can bring it back at any time.
What happens to a lead if I undo?
The timeline entry is removed, and the lead is removed too if that same approval created it and nothing has attached to it since. If a deal, an invoice or another activity has arrived in the meantime, the lead is kept and Finocket tells you it kept it.
Can I see which records are behind a number?
Yes. Each finding lists the records themselves, by name rather than by id, and each one opens where you can fix it — a deal opens the deal, a lead opens the customer. Two of the findings are form submissions rather than leads, and a submission has no page of its own, so those open the form they came from, which is where submissions are read. Long lists show the first ten with the true total beside them, so a workspace with thousands is told how many there really are rather than being shown ten as though that were all of them.
A finding shows a count but no records underneath. Why?
The count and the records are fetched separately, so that the number stays right even when the list is capped. If the record lookup cannot run — a permissions change, most often — you still get the count, because knowing something is wrong matters more than being able to click straight to it. Re-check usually clears it.
Does Connections change my records?
No — it's read-only. It counts each orphan class so you know where to look; re-check whenever you like, and a scheduled sweep keeps watch in between.
Is there a field visit tracking app for small businesses in India?
Yes — Finocket's Visits module logs each site visit with client, project, date, visit type and notes, and a visit you log with no signal queues on the phone. Because it lives inside your billing app, visit history and client money sit side by side.
From: Visits & field work — log site visits with voice notes
Can I add notes by voice instead of typing?
Yes, two ways: tap the mic to dictate and watch speech turn into text live, or record a voice memo and Finocket transcribes it into the notes field. The saved output is text, so your visit notes stay searchable.
From: Visits & field work — log site visits with voice notes
Can I log the same visit every week without retyping?
Swipe right on last week's visit to duplicate it, then change the date. The date field is also sticky while you log a batch, so entering a full week of site rounds takes seconds.
From: Visits & field work — log site visits with voice notes
Can I change the client on a saved visit?
No — editing covers date, visit type and notes only. If a visit went against the wrong client or project, duplicate the details onto a fresh entry under the right client and delete the old one (delete has an Undo).
From: Visits & field work — log site visits with voice notes
Does logging visits work without internet on site?
Yes. Save a visit with no signal and Finocket shows 'Saved offline', queues it, and syncs automatically when you're back online — nothing is lost between the site and the office.

Do I need a developer to open an online store?
No. Creating the shop, choosing how it looks, writing its pages, connecting your domain and publishing are all screens in the app. Nothing asks you to write code or edit a file.
Is my shop public as soon as I create it?
No. A new shop is a draft, and every page inside it starts as a draft too. Nothing is visible to anyone until you publish the shop, and you can take it back to a draft at any time without losing what you wrote.
What actually stops my shop going live?
One thing: a published home page. Without one your shop's address serves nothing at all. Missing policy pages are listed as things to know, not blockers — your shop can open without them and we keep reminding you.
Can I use my own domain name?
Yes. Add the domain you own, add the TXT record we show you at whoever manages it, and press Check now. One caveat we state plainly: serving traffic on a custom domain is not switched on yet, so verify now and the domain starts serving the moment that lands.
What happens if the domain check says it could not tell?
It means exactly that — we could not reach your DNS. It does not mean your record is missing or wrong, and we deliberately do not say so, because that would send you to edit DNS that may already be correct. Try again shortly.
Where does my shop get its products from?
From the items you already keep for invoicing — the same list, not a copy. Two catalogues drift, and then your shop sells a price your books do not know about. Add a product grid section to a page and point it at a collection.
Does this replace selling on Amazon or Flipkart?
No. The marketplace hub reconciles what you sell on Amazon, Flipkart and quick-commerce as finance. This is your own shop on your own address. Plenty of businesses want both.
How often does my shop refresh its prices?
Every minute, unless you change it. Your shop’s pages are held ready in advance so they open quickly, and the Prices tab decides how long a held page may keep showing an old price: live (nothing is held, your shop is slower and costs more to serve), every minute, or once a day. Nothing in the product announces a price change, so time is the only thing that clears a held page — which is why this is your decision and why each option says what it costs rather than what it gains.
I sell gold. Can I stop my shop showing an old rate at all?
Yes. Open the item and turn on “Price follows a live market rate”. That item’s page is never held — every visitor sees the price as it is right now — and neither is any collection page it appears on, because a collection is held as one piece and cannot be held for everything except one tile. Only the collections that actually contain such an item are affected.
What if a shopper sees a price and I raise it before they add it?
They pay what they saw. Your shop honours the price it showed them, for as long as the refresh window you chose plus five more minutes. Two limits protect you: a rise of more than half, or of more than ₹2,000 on one line, is not honoured — the shopper is told the price has changed and asked to refresh the page, rather than your shop absorbing what is almost always a typing mistake. If you LOWER a price, they simply pay the lower one.
Can my shop take payments today?
Not through this. What you set up here is the shop's control surface — the look, the pages, the address, the catalogue. Carts, checkout, payments and shipping are separate parts of the store and the console says plainly which of them a shop can and cannot do.
Can my shop take payments today?
Partly. The Payments tab is where you decide about cash on delivery, and that decision is real and saved. Carts, checkout, card and UPI payments and shipping are separate parts of the store, and the console says plainly which of them a shop can and cannot do. No shop address resolves to a live storefront yet, so nothing you set here has met a shopper.
Why does my shop not offer cash on delivery?
Because nobody has chosen to. The setting starts with no value at all, and while it has none cash on delivery is not offered. We will not pick for you: we cannot yet judge how likely a parcel is to come back unpaid, and choosing on your behalf would be us deciding how much loss on returned parcels you should absorb. Open the Payments tab of your shop and press Save.
What does 'confirm their address by text' actually do?
Before a cash-on-delivery order is taken, we text a one-time code to the shopper's own mobile number and they type it back. It confirms the person placing the order can be reached on the number attached to it. The code goes to the number on their session, never to one typed into the page, so nobody can confirm somebody else's delivery address with a code sent to a handset they hold.
Can other people promote my shop for a commission?
Yes — turn on Shop affiliates in Partners. Each affiliate gets a tracked link to your shop root, a collection, a product or a catalogue page, plus a personal code that works at your till too. A sale through either credits them at the rate you set, on what the shopper actually paid before GST.
Do I need my own website to collect leads?
No. Finocket hosts the form and the landing page for you at a public link with your branding on it. Share the link on WhatsApp, print it as a QR code, or put it in an ad — submissions land straight in your CRM as leads.
Is a consent checkbox legally required for marketing in India?
Under the DPDP Act, marketing messages need clear, informed consent, and TRAI's TCCCPR rules require verifiable opt-in for commercial SMS. Finocket stores the exact opt-in text, timestamp and source with every submission, so you can prove consent if a contact or regulator ever asks.
What if someone submits without ticking the consent box?
If you've made consent optional, the contact is saved but marked suppressed — marketing messages to them are blocked until they opt in. If consent is required (the default), the submission is refused server-side with a clear message asking them to tick the box.
Can a form re-activate someone who unsubscribed?
Yes. If a contact who opted out later fills your form and ticks the consent block themselves, that fresh express opt-in lifts the unsubscribe, with the new wording stored as proof. Spam complaints and hard bounces are different — those never auto-lift.
How does Finocket stop spam submissions?
A hidden honeypot field silently drops bot submissions, and a captcha check (Cloudflare Turnstile) runs where it's configured — real visitors don't face a wall. Duplicate submissions from the same email or phone update the existing lead instead of creating clones.
Can I see which form is performing?
Every form card shows live view and submission counts, and every page card shows views — enough to compare a shop-counter QR against a WhatsApp status link without opening a separate analytics dashboard.
If my landing page moves into my online shop, does the old link break?
No. Anything you have already printed on a flyer, pointed a QR code at or sent on WhatsApp keeps working — Finocket forwards the old address to the page's new home on your own web address. You never have to reprint anything.
Does my lead form still work on a shop page?
Yes, and it is the same form rather than a copy. The page points at the form you already built, so editing it once changes every page that shows it and the exact opt-in wording stays in one place. A form you delete makes the page say so rather than quietly showing an empty panel.
Is the items catalog an online store?
No — it's a showcase, not a storefront. There is deliberately no cart, no checkout and no search box. It's a clean, read-only way to send someone your product or service list on one link. When you actually sell online, that's the marketplace hub (Amazon/Flipkart/quick-commerce) reconciled as finance.
Can I hide prices on the catalog?
Yes. Each catalog has a 'show prices' switch. Turn it off and every item reads 'Price on request' instead of a rate — useful when your pricing is quote-based or varies by customer.
What do customers see, and what stays private?
They see only the showcase fields — item name, description, photo, unit and (if you allow it) the price. Cost, SKU, tax settings, ledger accounts and custom fields are never sent to the public page. An unpublished catalog or a wrong link just shows 'this catalog isn't available', so drafts stay private.
Can I choose which items appear?
Yes. A catalog can include all your active items, or an explicit set you tick. Add a catalog image to each item under Items & Services; items without a photo still appear.
What is the difference between publishing a catalog and showing it in my shop?
They are two different things and each has its own switch. Publishing decides whether the /cat/ link works — a link you send to someone. 'Show as a collection in my shop', under 'In your shop', decides whether it is also a shelf every visitor to your shop can browse. A shelf needs the catalog published as well, so the shop switch does nothing on its own until you publish.
If I unpublish a catalog, does it disappear from my shop too?
Yes — and Finocket warns you first, naming both things you are about to lose: the share link stops working AND the shelf goes from your shop. If you only want it off the shop, turn off 'Show as a collection in my shop' and leave the catalog published; the link keeps working. Prices hidden? The shelf reads 'Price on request' against every item, the same as the share link does — so if you mean to sell from that shelf, turn 'Show prices' back on.
Can a Shop affiliates partner share my catalog link?
Yes. A catalog page is one of the destinations an affiliate's tracked link can point at, right alongside your shop root, a collection or a single product — the sale it brings still credits them at your programme's rate.
My leads come from Facebook and events, not my website. Can I email them?
Turn on 'Declare consent you hold outside Finocket' in Campaigns, then declare it for those contacts. They stop being blocked. Finocket records who declared it and when — it cannot verify the claim itself, and it does not pretend to.
Does declaring consent override an unsubscribe?
No, and it never will. An unsubscribe, a spam complaint, a hard bounce and a deletion request all outrank a declaration. Once someone opts out, only they can opt back in.
Do I have to record proof?
No. Where the permission came from and any note are both optional, so declaring is one step. Finocket always records who declared it and when, because with nothing else that is the minimum worth keeping.
Why did my declaration stop working?
Declarations expire — 365 days by default. After that the contact stops receiving marketing until you renew the declaration or they opt in themselves. You can change the window, or set it to zero so declarations never expire.
I declared consent for the wrong list. Can I undo it?
Yes, in one step. Every declaration made in one action shares a batch reference, so withdrawing covers the whole batch however large. Nothing is deleted — the withdrawal is appended, so the record shows both that you made the claim and that you took it back. It works even if you've since switched the setting off.
How do I tell which messages went out on a declaration?
The message log records the basis for every send. A message sent on a declaration reads 'declared', never as a normal opt-in, so you can filter for exactly those sends rather than reconstructing them later.
Is this legal where I operate?
That depends on the source and your jurisdiction, and it is not a call Finocket makes. Finocket records your declaration, expires it, and honours every opt-out. If you are unsure whether a source gives you a basis to market to someone, ask whoever advises you on data protection before declaring it.
Why can't I just send any WhatsApp message I like?
WhatsApp's own rule: you may write freely for 24 hours after a customer messages you, and outside that window only a template Meta has approved may go out. Finocket enforces the rule rather than letting you find out from a failed send.
Do I need my own WhatsApp Business account?
For template approvals, yes — Meta approves templates against your WhatsApp Business account, so connect Meta Cloud API or 360dialog on the Outreach sending screen, which Settings → Connected keys links to. Selling channels is a different screen and has never carried WhatsApp. Replying inside the 24-hour window works without it.
How long does Meta take to approve a template?
Usually under a day. Tap Refresh status to ask again; the screen shows the exact time it last checked, because an approval Meta can pause at any moment is only true as of when you asked.
Meta rejected my template. What now?
The screen shows Meta's reason word for word — not a paraphrase. Marketing wording in a utility template is the usual cause. Edit the body and submit again.
Why doesn't Finocket already know what Meta charges me?
Because it genuinely doesn't. Meta's per-message prices differ by country, by conversation category, by provider and by whatever you negotiated, and they have been re-cut more than once. A pre-filled figure on a screen that looks like a bill would be a made-up number, so you copy in your own rate card instead.
What happens when a send would go over my monthly limit?
It is blocked and recorded in your message log with the reason, exactly like a consent block. Nothing is dropped silently. Blocked messages cost nothing, so they never count towards the month.
What if I haven't entered any rates?
Nothing is held back. Finocket will not stop your messaging over a price it doesn't know — the limit only applies to message kinds you have priced.
Are WhatsApp read receipts more reliable than email opens?
Yes, and that's why they're treated differently. An email open can be fabricated by Apple Mail Privacy Protection or a company mail scanner. Nothing fabricates a WhatsApp read receipt, so it appears in the Engagement report without the 'unverified' hedge email opens carry.
Does an approved template mean I can message anyone?
No. An approval is permission from Meta, not from your customer. Every WhatsApp message still passes the same consent checkpoint, so someone who replied STOP is not messaged whatever the template says.
Do I need to switch tracking on?
No. Every email your workspace sends is tracked — campaigns, sequence steps and one-off follow-ups alike. The Engagement report fills in from the next send onwards.
Why does the report say opens are 'unverified'?
Because they are. Apple Mail Privacy Protection loads the images in every message the moment it arrives, whether or not anyone reads it, and company mail scanners do the same. Both look identical to a real open. Finocket names the scanner traffic it can recognise, but Apple's proxy is deliberately indistinguishable, so the honest label is unverified.
Which number should I actually act on?
Clicks. A click is a person deciding to go somewhere; scanners rarely follow a link through and Apple's privacy proxy never does. Use opens for shape and trend, clicks for decisions.
Why doesn't Finocket tell me the best time to send?
Because that advice would be built on the contaminated number. We show you the busiest hour as an observation and leave the decision to you — you know your trade and your customers better than an open count that is partly machines does.
Whose timezone is the heatmap in?
Yours. The grid is folded into the timezone of the device you're viewing it on, so the week reads the way your working week does.
Do you store my contacts' IP addresses?
No — not raw, not hashed, not shortened. A tracking pixel sees the recipient's network location every time it loads and a marketing report has no need to keep it. The device and app they read in aren't stored either; only whether the request came from a mail scanner Finocket recognises.
Someone opened my email ten times. Does that count ten times?
Repeated hits on the same message inside the same minute count once, so a mail app re-drawing a message that's been left open can't inflate your figures.
Is the unsubscribe link tracked too?
No. The unsubscribe link in your footer is never rewritten and never tracked, and tracking never affects whether a message is allowed to go out — the consent check decides that, and an unsubscribe still outranks everything.
My email provider reports different numbers. Which is right?
They're measuring the same events with different filters. If you've connected your own provider, its figures feed lead scoring while this report is Finocket's own first-party count. The two are kept separate on purpose so nothing is ever counted twice.
A message was not sent and I do not understand the reason shown.
You should not have to. Every send outcome now reads as a sentence in the language you use Finocket in — "Held — it was outside the hours you chose for this kind of message", rather than a code like suppressed_until_consent. If a message was refused by your sending provider rather than by Finocket, you will see that stated plainly too; the provider's own error text is kept on hover so support can read it without it being shouted at you.
Is bulk WhatsApp messaging legal in India?
Yes, through the official WhatsApp Business API with Meta-approved templates and recorded customer opt-in — that's the DPDP-compliant route. Bulk messaging from a normal WhatsApp app or unofficial tools violates WhatsApp's terms and risks number bans. Finocket only sends via official API providers and checks consent first.
Do I need DLT registration for WhatsApp?
No — DLT registration is TRAI's system for commercial SMS in India (sender ID plus registered templates). WhatsApp instead requires a Business Solution Provider (BSP) or Meta Cloud API account with Meta-approved templates. Finocket handles both gates: SMS waits for DLT details, WhatsApp waits for approved templates.
What does the DPDP Act require before I message customers?
Free, specific, informed consent — and proof of it. Finocket records the exact opt-in wording, timestamp and source for every form submission, blocks marketing to anyone without a live opt-in, and honours withdrawal (unsubscribe) immediately. Transactional messages about an existing relationship are treated differently from marketing.
What are the TRAI TCCCPR rules in simple terms?
TRAI's telecom commercial-communication rules require registered senders and templates (DLT), verifiable customer consent, a working opt-out, and no promotional SMS in night hours. Finocket's send checkpoint enforces the consent and opt-out side of that on every message. The night-hours restriction on Indian SMS is enforced by the DLT chain itself — your registered sender and the carrier — not by Finocket, so treat your promotional SMS timing as your own responsibility. Indian SMS also stays queued until your DLT registration is in place.
Can I legally email my existing customer list?
Genuinely transactional messages (invoices, payment reminders, order updates) may go to customers unless they're suppressed. Marketing offers need an opt-in. In Finocket the template's class decides which rule applies — and the linter stops you accidentally sending marketing under a transactional label.
Why does a message show 'blocked' in the log?
The log states the exact reason: no consent, suppressed after an unsubscribe or complaint, quiet hours, or a failed template gate. Blocked is a recorded outcome, not an error — it's the checkpoint doing its job, and the row is your compliance evidence.
What is a suppression list?
The set of contacts no message may go to: unsubscribes, spam complaints, hard bounces, and leads who never gave consent. Finocket maintains it automatically and checks it on every send. A fresh express opt-in lifts an unsubscribe; complaints and bounces stay suppressed.
Does the assistant send emails on its own?
No. It drafts; you read the finished email and tap Confirm. Confirming only authorises the attempt — consent, the unsubscribe list and your messaging rules are checked at that moment, and a blocked email is recorded with its reason rather than sent.
Can the AI invent an amount in my email?
No. It may only use figures Finocket has already computed from your books, and any sentence containing a number that doesn't match is discarded before you see it. If nothing survives, you're told the draft couldn't be grounded and you write it yourself.
What happens if I haven't connected an email provider?
The composer says so and the Send control stays off — nothing is queued and nothing pretends to have been sent. Connect a provider under Email & SMS keys, or finish verifying your sending domain under Sending & deliverability.
Why can't I send an offer as a service message?
Because the purpose you pick decides the rule, and a promotional purpose always requires marketing consent. Finocket derives that itself rather than trusting a label, and a service email carrying promotional wording is refused outright.
Do sequence emails send even if I'm offline?
Yes. Once a contact is enrolled, Finocket's scheduler sends each due step from the server on its day offset — your phone can be off. The enrolment keeps advancing until it completes or stops, and every send still passes the consent checkpoint first.
What happens if a contact unsubscribes mid-sequence?
The remaining steps are cancelled immediately and the enrolment shows stopped-unsubscribed. Nothing further sends, and the blocked outcome is logged rather than silently dropped. If the same person later gives a fresh express opt-in via a form, you can enrol them again.
Can I enrol the same contact in a sequence twice?
A contact has one active enrolment in a sequence at a time; once it completes or stops you can enrol them again — say, a returning lead a year later. Each enrolment tracks its own progress from day 0.
Will a contact get sequence steps and a campaign on the same day?
They can, since sequences and campaigns run independently — both consent-checked, but not cross-scheduled. If you're running a big campaign, consider manually stopping enrolments for those contacts, or keep sequence audiences (fresh leads) separate from campaign audiences (existing clients).
Does a reply stop the sequence automatically?
Not yet — reply-based stopping is reserved but automatic reply detection isn't live. For now, when a lead replies, stop their enrolment manually before you continue the conversation; it takes one tap and prevents an automated day-7 email landing mid-negotiation.
How do I save an audience for campaigns?
On the Segments tab of Campaigns, add conditions and name the result. You can combine tags, consent state, activity, industry, lead status, lead score, lead grade, open deal value, location (city / state / country), company size, lead source and contact role — with 'all of these' or 'any of these'.
Where does the industry on a contact come from?
From the industry on their company account if they're linked to one, otherwise from an 'industry' field you set up yourself on contacts. There's no fixed industry list in Finocket — the words are whatever your business uses, so nothing has to be renamed to fit ours.
Can I build an audience for WhatsApp or SMS?
Yes. The audience is resolved for the channel you're sending on — email by email address, SMS and WhatsApp by phone. Contacts you only have a mobile number for are included for those channels, and a WhatsApp opt-out is matched whatever format the number is stored in.
Can one campaign say different things to different segments?
Yes — a template can carry content variants bound to a segment, so manufacturing and pharma read wording written for them inside a single campaign. If someone matches several segments, the variant you ordered first wins, consistently. Variants are managed over the API for now; an in-app editor is coming.
What happens if a merge field can't be filled for someone?
They're held back with a reason instead of receiving an email with a gap in it. That matters most for payment chases: if you write 'invoice {{invoice_number}} is {{days_overdue}} days overdue', anyone who doesn't actually owe you money is skipped rather than sent a confusing message.
If someone is in a segment, do they definitely get the message?
No — and this is the key point. A segment only selects who's in the audience; it doesn't decide who's sent to. Every message still passes the same send checkpoint, so a contact who hasn't consented is blocked at send even if they fall inside the segment. A segment can never talk past consent, quiet hours or a suppression.
What if a saved segment's filter is broken?
It resolves to an empty audience — it fails closed. A segment never quietly falls back to 'everyone', so a mistake shrinks your reach rather than blasting your whole list.
Who can create and edit segments?
Segments are part of the email & sequences module; owners and assistants create and edit them. Every send a segment feeds is still logged with its outcome — sent, queued, or blocked with the reason — exactly as for any campaign.
Can I change a QR code after it's printed?
Yes — that's the whole point of a dynamic code. The printed pattern encodes a short redirect, not your destination, so tapping Repoint changes where every existing sticker sends people, instantly and forever. You never reprint, and old codes never break.
Does scan tracking invade my customers' privacy?
No. Finocket stores a hashed version of the scanner's IP — the raw address is never kept — along with device type and time. That's enough to show you scans by day and device without profiling individuals. Personal details only ever arrive if the visitor chooses to submit your form.
How do I use a QR code to collect customer opt-ins?
Point the code at a hosted form whose consent block covers the channels you'll use (WhatsApp, SMS, email). When a customer scans and submits with the box ticked, Finocket stores the exact opt-in text, time and source — verifiable consent proof under the DPDP Act, collected at your counter.
How long does QR attribution last?
The source cookie lasts one year and the QR-specific cookie 90 days. If a scanner comes back within that window and submits your form, the lead is still credited to that code and its campaign — so a customer who scans your poster today and enquires next week is counted correctly.
Will the QR work if I stop paying or the destination goes down?
The code itself keeps working — it's a live redirect on Finocket. If your destination page breaks, just repoint the code at a working link; that's a 30-second fix versus reprinting stock. Draft landing pages 404, so publish before pointing a code at one.
What's the difference between the free tool and QR & tracking?
The free generator produces a static code with a fixed link: free, unbranded-by-Finocket, but untrackable and unchangeable. QR & tracking codes live in your workspace: repointable after printing, scan-counted by day and device, and wired into lead attribution.
Does Finocket track what my email and SMS sends cost?
Yes, once you tell it your rates — Finocket ships no price list, because email and SMS rates differ by provider, by route and by whatever volume you negotiated, and a guessed number on a cost screen is worse than no number. Enter your per-send email rate and your per-segment SMS rate, and every send is recorded with its cost. Until you do, the cost reads as unknown rather than as zero.
Why is my SMS priced per segment instead of per message?
Because that is how carriers bill it. A plain English SMS fits 160 characters in one segment. A single character outside the basic GSM alphabet — any Hindi, Kannada, Tamil or Telugu letter, and most emoji — switches the whole message to a different encoding where only 70 fit, and long messages lose a few more characters per segment to the joining header. So the same 71-character message is one segment in English and two in Hindi. Finocket counts the segments the way the carrier will, so a message in your own language is not quietly under-costed.
How much does the WhatsApp Business API cost in India?
Meta charges per conversation, with rates varying by category (marketing conversations cost more than utility ones); BSPs like 360dialog add their own plans. With Finocket you bring your own Meta Cloud API or 360dialog account, so you pay the provider directly at their published rates — no markup.
Do I have to bring my own keys to send campaigns?
No. Finocket's included sending works with zero setup. Bring keys only when you want your own sender identity and deliverability reputation, or your own provider pricing. If a channel has no key, the included transport is used automatically for that channel.
Why is my SMS sitting in 'queued'?
Indian SMS needs your DLT sender ID and template registered; US SMS on Twilio needs approved A2P 10DLC. Until those are configured, Finocket holds the messages as queued rather than sending unregistered traffic that carriers would filter or fine. Complete the registration and queued messages become sendable.
Can I store an Amazon SES or SendGrid key now?
You can save the key, but these two adapters aren't live yet — sending stays on your active provider (or the included sender) until they're enabled. For your own email sending today, use Resend, ZeptoMail, or your own mailbox over SMTP.
Can I just send from my own Gmail or Workspace mailbox?
Yes. Choose 'Your own mailbox (SMTP)' and enter your address, your mail server and an app password. Your normal password will not work: Google requires 2-Step Verification on the account first, and then issues a separate 16-character app password under Security → App passwords. Finocket makes a real connection and logs in before saving, so a wrong password is caught while you are still on the form rather than when a customer does not get an email.
What is the catch with sending from my own mailbox?
Two things, and both matter more as volume grows. Your mailbox cannot tell Finocket when a message bounces or when someone marks it as spam, so the safeguard that pauses sending after a spike in complaints has nothing to watch on this route — an empty warnings screen means it is not being measured, not that nothing is wrong. And mailbox providers cap sending: Gmail and Workspace stop you somewhere around 2,000 recipients a day. It is a good fit for reminders, statements and low-volume follow-ups, and the wrong fit for a large campaign — use a dedicated email provider for that.
Can my accountant see or change the keys?
No. Accountants are read-only across the workspace and never see credentials — nobody does after saving, since only the provider name and verified status are displayed. Company keys are owner-only to set; team members can only manage their own personal keys.
Does using my own WhatsApp number let me skip template approval?
No. Any business-initiated WhatsApp message through the official API must use a template Meta has approved, whichever account it sends from. Finocket won't attempt an unapproved template send — that protects your number from being flagged or banned.
How does calling from a CRM actually work?
Your phone system rings you first. When you answer, it dials the customer and bridges the two calls. That is why Finocket needs your own number saved — it never calls the customer without a person already on the line, so there is no auto-dialler and no voice broadcast.
Do I need a special phone number to call from Finocket?
You need an account with Exotel, Twilio or Knowlarity and one number on it — an ExoPhone for Exotel, a Twilio number, or your Knowlarity number. That number is what your customer sees. Calls are billed by that provider at their rates; Finocket adds no markup.
Why does my saved calling credential say it isn't verified?
Because proving a dialling credential means ringing a real phone, and Finocket won't do that without you asking. The credential is stored immediately and your first call that the provider accepts marks it verified. A refused call shows the provider's own reason.
Why is talk time showing as zero?
Duration and recordings only exist after a call ends, and they arrive through a callback from your provider. If the deployment has no telephony webhook secret configured, that callback never arrives — calls are still placed and logged, but always read zero seconds. The Calling screen says so when this is the case.
Does marking a call 'asked not to be called' unsubscribe them?
No. It records what happened on the timeline. Opting someone out of email, SMS or WhatsApp is a separate, evidenced consent record, and Finocket tells you that and links you straight to the contact's consent panel rather than implying it did something it didn't.
Can Finocket call a list of numbers automatically?
No. There is no auto-dialler, no IVR broadcast and no API endpoint that places calls. Every call starts with a person pressing Call on a record — which is also why calling has no consent checkpoint of its own: you are the caller, and honouring a do-not-call request is your obligation.
What if I don't connect a provider at all?
The Call button still appears wherever there is a number, but it opens your handset's dialler and says so. That call happens on your phone, so Finocket cannot time, record or log it — it will not invent a call log for something it did not witness.
Why was my SMS or WhatsApp template rejected?
SMS templates fail DLT approval when the registered text doesn't match what's sent, or variables are overused. WhatsApp templates are rejected by Meta for promotional wording in utility categories, policy-violating content, or formatting issues. Fix the category/wording mismatch and resubmit — and keep transactional templates strictly transactional.
Will verifying my domain stop my emails landing in spam?
SPF, DKIM and DMARC are the foundation of inbox placement — they prove mail is really from you. In Finocket, verification today prepares your domain for the dedicated-sending rollout; until that ships, email goes via the shared sender, whose reputation is professionally maintained.
Do sending hours apply to email too?
Yes, but as a courtesy rather than a legal rule — there is no law setting night hours for email anywhere Finocket operates. Marketing email is held outside your workspace's sending hours (8am–9pm by default) and goes out when the window reopens; held recipients stay on the list for your next send. Transactional mail — receipts, payment reminders, statements, your accountant's bulk run — is never held. SMS is the separate, stricter case: where a law sets a window it is enforced against the recipient's own local time.
What happens if I never touch this page?
Nothing breaks. Email campaigns send from Finocket's shared sender, and SMS simply won't send until its registrations exist. This page is for businesses that want their own domain identity, US SMS capability, or a connected mailbox — it's preparation, not a prerequisite for email.
Is connecting my Gmail safe?
Yes. The connection uses Google's own OAuth consent screen — you sign in with Google, Finocket receives an encrypted token, and your password is never seen or stored. You can revoke access any time from your Google account's security settings, which cuts Finocket off instantly.
Why can't I use an app password for Outlook or Microsoft 365?
Microsoft has retired basic authentication for Exchange Online, so IMAP and SMTP with a password no longer work on those accounts at all — it is not a Finocket limitation and no setting will restore it. Connect Outlook with the Microsoft sign-in button instead. Finocket deliberately doesn't show you an app-password form for Microsoft, because the form could never succeed.

Google says app passwords aren't available for my account. Why?
Google only offers app passwords to accounts with 2-Step Verification switched on. With 2SV off, the app-passwords page is hidden entirely. Turn on 2-step verification in your Google account, then generate an app password — or skip it and use the Connect Gmail sign-in button, which needs no password at all.

Can Finocket read my mailbox?
Only if you connect it with an app password, and only then. The sign-in (OAuth) route asks Google and Microsoft for send-only permission, so it cannot read anything. An app-password connection uses IMAP, which can list and fetch messages — that's what makes inbox features possible on Zoho Mail, Fastmail and self-hosted mail. Reads use IMAP PEEK, so looking at a message never marks it read in your mailbox.
From: Connected keys, and connecting a mailbox with an app password
Can anyone at Finocket see my API keys or mailbox password?
No. Credentials are encrypted before storage and are never returned by any part of the product — including the internal view platform administrators use, which shows the same provider names, dates and failure reasons you see and nothing more. If you lose a key you replace it; there is no lookup.
From: Connected keys, and connecting a mailbox with an app password
My key says verified but sending stopped. What happened?
Almost always the key was rotated or deleted at the provider. Verified records the last time it was proven, not a live state. Open Connected keys and tap Check it still works — that asks the provider now, and records what it said. Then paste a fresh key on the screen that owns that provider.
From: Connected keys, and connecting a mailbox with an app password
What happens to my sending if I revoke a key?
Sending continues on Finocket's included transport — it doesn't stop. Revoking removes the key from Finocket only; if you also want it dead at the provider, delete it in the provider's own dashboard.

How do I calculate agent commission with GST and TDS?
Commission is rate × collected amount; if the partner is GST-registered they invoice you commission + 18% GST, and you deduct TDS under Section 194H before paying. Finocket's monthly statement lays out payable, GST and 194H columns per partner so your CA applies both correctly.
Why did commission accrue only after payment, not after the invoice?
Because a commission owed on an unpaid invoice is a liability on imaginary money. Finocket accrues when the payment is actually collected, holds it for the program's hold window (your refund buffer), and claws it back automatically if the payment is refunded.
Can I run a referral program without my partners installing anything?
Yes. Partners get a link and a coupon code they share on WhatsApp, and a web portal to check earnings — no app, no training. You mint the code, they share it, and the client quoting it at invoice time completes the attribution.
What stops a partner referring themselves for commission?
Finocket auto-flags accruals where the referral's email or phone matches the partner's own. Flagged amounts are recorded but excluded from the payable balance until the owner explicitly approves or rejects them — so nothing suspicious reaches a statement without your decision.
Does Finocket pay my partners?
No, deliberately. Finocket computes each partner's payable with holds, clawbacks and tax context, and produces the monthly statement — but your CA (or you) executes the actual transfer and records its payment reference back. Your money never routes through Finocket.
How is this better than tracking payouts in Excel?
The ledger is append-only and idempotent: corrections are new rows, a replayed payment counts exactly once, and money is stored in integer paise so totals never drift. Partners self-serve their own status in the portal, ending the 'where's my commission?' WhatsApp thread.
Can a partner's link open a specific product or page instead of my homepage?
Yes. A partner's /r/ link can now carry a destination — one of your published catalogue items, a landing page, a form, or your storefront home — so the link a partner shares opens exactly what they are promoting, with the same commission tracking as before. Finocket only follows a destination that is genuinely yours and already published; anything else (someone else's page, a raw web address, a link edited by hand) is refused and the visitor lands on your homepage instead.
Does a shop affiliate's link or code actually earn commission now, or only track clicks?
It earns. The moment a shopper's order is billed after following a partner's shop link or typing their code — online, or at your till — that sale is credited to the partner and flows into the same commission engine every other partner earns through — the same hold window, the same GST-aware base, the same monthly statement. Commission is worked out on what was actually collected before GST, never on the tax on top of it.
Can I pay a partner on a deal's value instead of what's actually collected?
Yes. Pick "Deal value" as your programme's base when you set or edit its rate, and the partner is paid a percentage of the CRM deal itself — once, on the deal's first payment, never repeated across a later instalment of the same deal. Collected revenue stays the default, and every existing programme keeps working exactly as before unless you change it.
Can a partner see my bank feed or filing credentials?
No. A partner's admin seat, even while it exists after you claim the workspace, never carries bank-feed, filing/gateway credentials, or AI-autonomy and AI-action-reversal rights — those stay owner-only regardless of who else has admin access.
Does the partner keep access after I claim my workspace?
Yes, until you remove it — and you're told about it, not left to notice on your own. Your first login names the partner and the seat they hold, and your Team screen marks that row as “Added by [Partner] while setting up your workspace, [date]” so it's never a mystery. Revoke it any time, the same way you'd revoke any other team member.
Why was my claim link refused?
Four reasons: the link expired (30 days), it was already claimed, the business is already a Finocket customer under its GSTIN/PAN, or a partner tried to name themselves as the owner. The claim page names which, without revealing details about a link that wasn't yours.
What is the TDS rate on commission under Section 194H?
TDS under 194H is deducted on commission or brokerage paid to residents when the payee's annual total crosses the threshold (₹20,000 in FY 2025-26 rules — confirm the current rate and limit with your CA). Finocket's statement carries a 194H annotation per Indian partner so the deduction is applied before payment, not discovered after.
Is GST payable on commission income?
Commission is a taxable service: a GST-registered partner must charge 18% GST on their commission invoice to you, and you can generally claim that as input credit. The statement's GST column shows registered partners, so your CA knows who should be invoicing with GST.
Why can't I finalize my draft statement?
Finalizing requires the draft to reconcile exactly to the commission ledger. If accruals, clawbacks or approvals changed after the draft was built, rebuild the draft for the period and finalize the fresh one. This is protection: a statement that doesn't match the ledger should never be paid.
What if a partner hasn't given their PAN?
The statement doesn't hide it — the row shows a clear MISSING flag, and the payable-now card warns you before you build. For an Indian partner, finalizing is refused outright once their commission for the financial year would cross ₹20,000 with no PAN on file (Section 194H) — you'll get the partner's name and the exact reason. Partners add their own PAN, ABN or US tax ID (and upload the document) from the portal, so chasing is one message: 'open your portal, add your PAN.'
Does marking a statement paid transfer money?
No. Finocket never executes payouts. Your CA pays each partner through your bank, then you mark the statement paid with the payment reference — which records the payout in the append-only ledger so partner portals show 'paid' and the books match the bank.
What about a refund after a partner was already paid?
The hold window exists to catch most refunds before payout. If one lands later, the clawback posts as a negative ledger entry that nets against the partner's next payable balance — the ledger stays honest without anyone editing history. A partial return only takes back that portion of the commission, and the partner gets an email saying so.
Is there a bug bounty?
No. There is no paid programme, and we say so plainly rather than let you spend a weekend on it expecting a reward that is not there. We will credit you publicly if you would like that.
What if I am not sure it is a real problem?
Send it anyway. We would rather read ten reports that turn out to be nothing than miss the one that was real, and you do not need to prove it is exploitable.
Someone else has got into my account — is that the same thing?
No, that is urgent and different. Change your password first, then write to us with roughly when you noticed. Alerts about new sign-ins and password changes are the one kind of notification that cannot be switched off.
Can I test how much load the system takes?
Please do not. Real businesses invoice and file returns through Finocket, so a load or denial-of-service test is an outage for them rather than a demonstration.
What kinds of custom fields can I add?
Fifteen types: text, multi-line text, number, decimal, amount, percent, date, checkbox, dropdown, multi-select, URL, email, phone, auto-number (a running series like INV-0001), and lookup (a reference to a client or an item).
Which records can carry custom fields?
Six: invoices, expenses, items, payments, clients and deals. Define a field for a record type under Settings → Custom fields and it appears on that record's form for the whole workspace.
Can I make a field mandatory or enforce a format?
Yes. Mark a field required so a record can't be saved without it, and add a validation pattern to enforce a shape — a fixed-length code, a specific format. Two switches also control visibility: show on PDF and show on portal.
Do custom fields show up in reports, the API and exports?
Yes — each field rides a stable api name, and that same name appears as a column and filter in the report builder, comes back on the record in the API, and appears as a column in CSV exports. Custom fields are an application-layer feature that shapes and validates what you enter, not a database-level access control.
Why don't I see a feature in my menu any more?
The menu shows only enabled modules. If a module is off, its menu entry moves to the Explore modules panel at the bottom of the menu. Open Explore or Settings → Modules & features and enable it — it reappears immediately. Four things left the menu for a different reason and are not coming back to it: your activity history, running jobs, approvals and workflows, and what this workspace is connected to. On a tablet or computer they are in the system dock down the left edge, where no business module can take them away.
Can I try a module before committing?
Yes. Available and Beta modules are self-serve — switch them on, try them, switch them off; your data stays. Some modules run on a time-limited trial with a Trial badge in the menu; when it lapses, the module returns to the Explore panel.
What does the Managed badge mean?
A Finocket admin has fixed that module on or off for your workspace, so the switch is disabled for you. This is used for tailored plans and controlled rollouts. If you need a managed-off module, tap Request access and the team will review it.
Does turning a module off delete its data?
No. Disabling a module only hides its screens and menu entries — every record stays exactly where it was. Switch the module back on and everything is there. To actually remove data, use the data controls under Settings → Account & privacy.
Do my teammates get the same modules as me?
Yes. The module set belongs to the workspace, so owners, assistants and accountants all see the same enabled modules. Accountants see them read-only. Only the owner changes the set — from Settings → Modules & features.
My home screen says my plan doesn't include something I'm using. Is it about to stop working?
No. Nothing is switched off, and the note says so. It is a heads-up so that plan limits never arrive as a surprise — anything you have on today stays on. If we ever start applying limits to your workspace we will tell you directly first. If you signed up while a feature was free, you keep it.
Why am I being told I'm close to my team seat limit?
Finocket warns you as you approach the number of team seats or companies your plan covers, so you find out before the moment you try to invite someone. It shows the plan that raises the limit and what it costs. You are not blocked — it is an early warning.
How do I see which plan includes a particular module?
Open Settings → Modules & features. Any area your plan does not include is marked with the plan that carries it, such as 'In Growth'. Tap that mark to compare the plans and see what each one adds.
Am I being charged, and what does a free plan include?
Not yet — the first card in Settings shows your plan and states plainly that nothing renews and nothing is billed. A free plan includes the software: every module you can switch on. What is never free on any plan is what we pay someone else for — AI beyond the free allowance, filing a return through the GST portal, and API traffic. Adding your own AI key under Settings → AI provider keys lifts the AI allowance, since that usage is then billed to you by your provider.
What actually costs credits?
Only actions that leave Finocket and reach a government system — checking a GSTIN or PAN, filing a return, raising an e-way bill, registering an e-invoice, a KYC or TDS check. Your own books are never metered: invoices, expenses, reports and the ledger are included in your plan, and credits are only spent when Finocket has to pay someone else on your behalf.
How much does a filing cost?
GSTR-1 is 40 credits, GSTR-9 is 50, GSTR-3B is 15, and reading your electronic ledgers is 15. A TDS FVU file is 20. Most lookups and checks are 5, an e-way bill or e-invoice action is 2, and checking your provider credentials is free.
How many credits does my plan include?
Solo 25 a month, Starter 50, Growth 300, Business 800 and Suite 2,000. Filing to the portal starts on Business, whose 800 credits cover a full GSTR-1 and 3B cycle — around 110 credits a month — with room for e-way bills and lookups on top. The smaller allowances cover lookups and checks, which is what those plans do.
Do unused credits carry over?
Yes, up to three times your monthly allowance. That cap exists so the annual return — GSTR-9, 50 credits, once a year — does not push you over an allowance that was otherwise fine all year. Anything above three months' worth lapses, and your credit history shows what lapsed and when.
The answer came back negative. Why was I still charged?
Because the portal served the request. Being told a GSTIN is cancelled costs the same as being told it is active — the work was done, the news was bad. A request that was never served, because it was rejected before the portal acted on it or we could not reach the portal at all, costs nothing.
What happens if I go past my allowance mid-month?
Nothing switches off. Finocket warns you at 80% of your allowance and shows the pack sized to what you are actually using; past the allowance, further credits are billed at ₹1 each. Only if your balance genuinely cannot cover an action is it refused — and then before it runs, not halfway through. Free capabilities, like checking your provider connection, keep working at a zero balance.
Am I charged twice if I look up the same GSTIN again?
No. A GSTIN answered from a copy Finocket already holds costs nothing — it does not re-ask the portal for something it has already been told. The offline checksum check that catches a mistyped GSTIN is free too.
Can I check where my credits went?
Yes. Your balance is the sum of its movements — the monthly grant, any top-ups, what each action spent, and anything that lapsed — rather than a stored figure. A correction appears as a new entry instead of an edit, so the history you read is the history that happened.
My automation rule is marked “Cannot run”. What does that mean?
The rule was saved with an action this version of Finocket cannot perform — usually a rule created a while ago, or imported from a setup that had a different set of actions. The rule still matches its trigger, but there is nothing left for it to do, so nothing happens. Open the rule, remove the action that is no longer offered, and pick one from the list instead. A rule you simply have not finished adding actions to is not marked, because that is a draft rather than a fault.
Can Claude or ChatGPT turn an automation on for me?
No — and it is stopped in the database, not just in the app. A connected assistant can READ the automations Finocket noticed you already do by hand, including the evidence behind each one, so you can ask it what it would suggest. Turning one on asks who is acting, and an assistant, a scheduled job or an API key has no answer to that, so the request is refused before anything is created. Only you, signed in, can switch a suggestion on — and what you were shown at that moment is stored with your decision.
What happens with no approval rules set?
Nothing changes. With no active rules, no record is ever held and your books behave exactly as before. A rule only engages once it matches a submitted record.
Can a teammate approve their own submission?
Only if they're the assigned approver or hold approvals write access. Authority is checked on the server for every act, so UI gating alone is never relied on — an unauthorised approve is refused.
Does rejecting delete the record?
No. Rejecting stamps the record rejected and records your note; an invoice returns to draft so it can be corrected and resubmitted. Nothing is lost.
Can I be told when something is waiting for my approval?
Yes. The Approvals waiting automation at /agents reads the pending queue and tells you what is held and for how long, so an invoice does not sit for a week because nobody opened the queue. Set it up on the Automations screen at /agents — on a day the queue is empty you hear nothing.
Can that automation approve the small ones itself?
No. Approving is an act by a person with the authority to do it, and the server checks that every time. An automation, a connected assistant or an API key has no answer to the question of who is approving, so the request is refused before anything is decided. If the small ones should not need approval at all, raise the rule's threshold instead.
Is the AI cost shown here what I'll be charged?
No. It's an estimate computed from tokens used at public list prices, shown in US dollars for comparison. It exists so you can see trends and heavy usage, not to bill you. Own-key usage is billed by your AI provider directly.
Can I see what my assistant or accountant did in my books?
Yes. Switch to Team activity and every member's actions appear with a plain-language summary and timestamp. The log also shows whether an action came from the app, an API key, or an AI agent — useful for tracing automation.
Why is my usage page empty?
Either nothing has happened yet this month, or your workspace hasn't generated AI or logged activity since the feature arrived. Activity accrues going forward — it doesn't backfill history from before logging began. Take an action or run an AI chat and it appears.
Does using the assistant more cost me anything?
On Finocket's included AI there's a fair-use daily cap on the assistant (50 messages per day) and no bill to you. The usage page's dollar figures are cost estimates for transparency. On your own key, your provider bills your account per use.
Can my teammate see my AI usage?
A regular member sees only their own activity and usage. Owners and admins see everyone's, because they're accountable for the workspace. Nobody outside your workspace sees details — the platform team sees only aggregate totals.
What is the difference between Activity and the Audit log?
Activity answers what was done — an invoice sent, a return filed, a call made to the e-invoice portal — in one plain sentence per event. The Audit log answers what a record used to say: whenever a row in your books is updated or deleted, a trigger snapshots its previous state in full. Read Activity to reconstruct events; read the Audit log to reconstruct a number.
From: Activity & the audit trail — who did what, and what changed
Can I delete an entry from my activity or audit trail?
No, and neither can anyone else — not a teammate, not an admin, not the owner, not Finocket support. Both tables are readable by your workspace and writable by nothing; there is no delete permission for a button to hang on.
From: Activity & the audit trail — who did what, and what changed
Why does Activity say 'someone on your team' instead of naming the person?
The timeline attributes by kind of actor, not by person: a teammate, a connected app, the assistant on your behalf, the assistant on its own, or Finocket automatically. For the per-person view, open Settings → Usage & activity, which separates your own actions from the whole workspace's.
From: Activity & the audit trail — who did what, and what changed
My new invoice is not in the Audit log — is something broken?
No. The Audit log records updates and deletions only, so a freshly created record never appears there. Its creation belongs to the Activity timeline. An empty Audit log means nothing in your books has been changed after the fact.
From: Activity & the audit trail — who did what, and what changed
An outside service says 'was already done' — did my filing fail?
No, the opposite. When an IRP answers 'already registered', the document is filed. Finocket shows that as a success rather than a failure, because sending you to chase a problem you do not have wastes your afternoon.
From: Activity & the audit trail — who did what, and what changed
Does the log store my GSTIN, bank details or API keys?
Keys, tokens, passwords and OTPs are dropped entirely before anything is written. Identifiers like a GSTIN, PAN, bank account, UPI ID, phone or email are kept only masked — 27AAAPA1234A1Z5 is stored as 27•••••••••Z5. Enough to prove a call happened; not enough to be worth stealing.
From: Activity & the audit trail — who did what, and what changed
Why is my Activity screen empty?
Most often because nothing has happened yet — the record does not backfill, so nothing from before it existed appears in it. Note that Activity also degrades to an empty timeline rather than an error if it cannot read the data, so an empty screen on a busy workspace is worth raising with support.
From: Activity & the audit trail — who did what, and what changed
Can I export Activity or search it by date?
No. There is no date range, no text search and no CSV, and it loads roughly the last hundred actions and hundred outside calls with no next page. It is built for reading the recent past, not for reporting on it.

Where do I find Running jobs?
On a tablet or computer it is the checklist icon in the system dock down the left edge, in the Work group between notifications and your activity history — and searching for "running" or "jobs" finds it too. There is no dock on a phone, so open /activity/running directly; the Activity screen also carries a Running jobs button at the top.
If I close the tab, does the job stop?
No. Nothing on this screen runs in your browser — the work happens on the server or on the Tally connector, and closing the tab or the app changes nothing. The screen is a window onto work that is happening anyway.
What is the difference between Running jobs and Activity?
Running jobs answers what is happening; Activity answers what happened. Running jobs shows work that is still in flight, still waiting on a decision, or that stopped badly. Activity is the full readable history of every action, newest first, and it does not distinguish finished work from live work.
A job says Waiting for you — has it changed anything in my books?
No. Waiting means it stopped on purpose before writing anything: an import that has parsed your file and wants confirmation, or an outreach plan nobody has approved. It will wait indefinitely and nothing lands until you decide.
Why do my scheduled reports never show under Running now?
Because a scheduled send and an automation rule are over in a moment — neither records an in-flight state. They appear under Finished recently, or under Did not finish if the send failed. They are still on the screen because confirming last night's report went out is exactly what people open this for.
What does Not recognised mean?
The job carries a status this version of the app has not been taught to read, usually because the part that runs the work was updated slightly ahead of the part that displays it. The screen prints the raw status rather than filing it under finished, because guessing would risk telling you an import succeeded when nobody knows whether it did. Open the job — its own screen understands its statuses.
The screen says it could not read something — is that the same as nothing running?
No, and the screen is careful about the difference. If a stream cannot be read it names it in a banner rather than quietly showing a shorter list, because a shorter list looks identical to nothing running. Refresh, and if it persists it is usually a dropped connection.
Do I need my own AI key to use Finocket's AI?
No. The assistant, scan-to-add and voice dictation all work on Finocket's included AI with no setup. A personal or company key is optional — for when you want usage billed to your own provider account or want to choose the provider.
Can I see the key I saved earlier?
No. Keys are encrypted before storage and never displayed again — the settings screen only shows that a key is set. This is deliberate: even a read of the settings page can't leak your key. To rotate, paste the new key; to stop, remove it.
My personal key and the company key are both set — which wins?
Yours. A personal key always overrides the company key for your own activity. Teammates without a personal key keep using the company key, and anyone with neither uses Finocket's included AI.
Will my provider bill match Finocket's usage page?
Not exactly. Finocket estimates cost from tokens used and public list prices in US dollars — indicative, not an invoice. Your provider's console is the source of truth for billing; use Finocket's page to see which features and users drive the usage.
Can my accountant set an AI key?
Yes, a personal one. Every member — owner, assistant, accountant — can set and remove their own personal key for their own activity. Only the owner can set the company-wide key that covers everyone else.
Is this the same as the assistant inside Finocket?
No. Chat inside Finocket is built in and your data never leaves. A connected outside assistant — Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity — is more flexible because it can combine your books with everything else it knows, but your data travels to that assistant's servers to make it work. Both are useful; only one sends data out.
From: Connect Finocket to Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini
Can a connected assistant move money or file my GST return?
No, and not as a setting you could switch on by mistake. Refunds, payment links, payment orders, e-invoice and e-way-bill generation, GST filing, approvals, journal posting and stock adjustments are absent from the connected surface entirely. It can read your GST return summaries; it cannot file anything.
From: Connect Finocket to Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini
I run three businesses in Finocket. Can it see all of them?
Only the one you picked when you approved the connection. It cannot see the others and cannot switch — the workspace is fixed at the moment you approve, not read from each request. To give an assistant a second workspace, connect it again and choose that one; you will then see two separate entries you can remove independently.
From: Connect Finocket to Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini
Where does my data actually go?
Finocket's copy of your books stays on servers in Mumbai and does not move. But whatever the assistant reads to answer a question — invoice amounts, customer names, GSTINs, turnover — travels to that assistant's servers, which are outside India, and stays in your conversation history with that provider under their retention rules.
From: Connect Finocket to Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini
I am a CA. Can I connect a client's workspace?
Technically yes, if you have access to it. Get the client's agreement first: it is their data leaving, not yours, and under the DPDP Act they are the ones whose consent matters. Connect for a specific piece of work and disconnect when it is finished.
From: Connect Finocket to Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini
How fast does disconnecting take effect?
Immediately — on the assistant's very next request, not whenever its session would have expired. Settings → Connected AI assistants → Disconnect. What it already read stays in your past conversations with that provider; delete those there if you want them gone.
From: Connect Finocket to Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini
Claude asks about an “OAuth client” — which option do I pick?
Leave it on “No client ID — register one automatically”, which Claude marks Detected. Do NOT pick “Use Anthropic’s hosted client metadata” even though it is labelled Recommended — Finocket does not support that method and the connection fails with an unknown-client error. Also leave Managed authorization off and add no custom headers.
From: Connect Finocket to Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini
Can I connect Gemini?
Yes, through the custom app link at the bottom of gemini.google.com/apps — same URL, same approval screen, same limits. Gemini’s built-in connector gallery is invitation-only for large partners, so the custom link is the route available today.
From: Connect Finocket to Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini
Does Finocket charge extra for this?
No. You do need a paid plan on the assistant's side — Claude needs Team or Enterprise to add a connector, ChatGPT needs a paid plan, Perplexity needs Pro or Enterprise.
From: Connect Finocket to Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini
Can the AI see other businesses' data?
No. Every ability the assistant has runs under the same row-level security as your login — it can only read your workspace's clients, payments, expenses and deals. There is no path to another tenant's books, and your questions aren't shared across workspaces.
From: Mysty — the Finocket AI assistant that chats with your books
Will the AI add entries to my books by mistake?
No. Writes always go through a confirmation card — the assistant proposes the entry with every field visible, and nothing is saved until you tap confirm. If you decline or ignore the card, your books are untouched. All its other abilities are read-only. You can also refuse a whole job in advance under Settings → What the assistant may do on its own, and then it is not even proposed.
From: Mysty — the Finocket AI assistant that chats with your books
I told it never to do something on the autonomy screen. Will it listen?
Yes. Settings → Autonomy asks six plain questions — chasing money you are owed, recording money received, writing up paperwork, keeping contacts current, moving the pipeline, keeping stock straight. Answer "never" and the assistant is refused that job wherever it comes up: the Approve button is replaced by the reason it was refused. Answer "ask me first" and you get the usual confirmation card. Anything you have not answered means ask first, so a job you have never thought about is never done behind your back.
From: Mysty — the Finocket AI assistant that chats with your books
It says my team hasn't allowed something. What do I change?
That message means the job itself was switched off under Settings → Autonomy — not that an amount was too large. It is worth reading which of the two you got, because they are fixed in different places: "above the limit your team set" is the money ceiling on the same screen, and "your team hasn't allowed this" is the job. Only the workspace owner can change either.
From: Mysty — the Finocket AI assistant that chats with your books
Can I let it chase invoices but never touch a payment?
Yes — that is what the questions being separate is for. Each one is answered on its own, and you can give a single job a tighter money limit than the rest, so chasing an invoice and recording a payment need not share a ceiling. Switching the assistant off for the whole workspace still overrides everything: no individual answer can bring it back on.
From: Mysty — the Finocket AI assistant that chats with your books
How many messages do I get per day?
50 messages per person per day on Finocket's included AI, resetting daily. That's a fair-use cap, not a paywall. If you need more, set a personal or company AI key under Settings → AI provider keys and usage runs on your own provider account.
From: Mysty — the Finocket AI assistant that chats with your books
Can I ask questions in Hindi or another Indian language?
You can type naturally, and visit search specifically matches Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada words in your data. The assistant handles plain, mixed-language phrasing well — ask the way you'd ask a colleague and it will work with your books.
From: Mysty — the Finocket AI assistant that chats with your books
What does using the assistant cost?
On the included AI, nothing — usage sits within the daily cap. Finocket shows an estimated cost per month under Settings → Usage & activity for transparency; it's an estimate from public list prices, not a bill. On your own key, your provider bills you.
From: Mysty — the Finocket AI assistant that chats with your books
Can the assistant make up a number?
It can propose one, and Finocket drops it before you see it. Every AI-written sentence is checked against the specific figures it cites, and a sentence stating an amount those figures do not support is discarded rather than shown — if nothing survives, you get an empty answer and the reason, never invented filler. Amounts written in words are checked as the amount they mean: "₹32 lakh" is thirty-two lakh, and is not accepted merely because a 32 appears somewhere in the same figures. "Cr" is never read as crore, because in a book of accounts Cr is Credit.
From: Mysty — the Finocket AI assistant that chats with your books
If a customer sends me their Aadhaar or PAN, does the AI see it?
No. When Finocket drafts a reply it is shown the customer's last message so the reply actually answers it — and identifiers in that message are masked first. Aadhaar numbers, PAN, GSTIN, bank account numbers and phone numbers are replaced before the AI reads it, so the number never leaves Finocket. The same applies to a spoken note left by a lead, except the phone number and email, because capturing those is the whole point of that feature. Your own books are left alone: a client's GSTIN is exactly what a GST notice reply is about.
From: Mysty — the Finocket AI assistant that chats with your books
Can someone send me a message that makes the AI do what they want?
A message that tries to give the AI instructions rather than talk to you is dropped instead of passed on, and your reply is still drafted from your own books — which is where every figure in it comes from anyway. More importantly, drafting and sending are separate: the assistant can only propose a message, and nothing goes out until you tap send. There is no wording a stranger can use that would send something on your behalf.
From: Mysty — the Finocket AI assistant that chats with your books
Can I keep books for more than one business with one login?
Yes. One sign-in can hold several businesses, and the switcher at the top of the sidebar (or in your profile menu on a phone) moves between them with no password. Use Add a business to create another under the sign-in you already have — you do not sign up again.
What is the difference between adding a business and adding an account?
A business is another workspace under your existing sign-in. An account is a different sign-in entirely — a different person, or a personal login you want kept apart from a work one. Two accounts share nothing at all, and Finocket never joins them together because the email addresses look similar.
Why does switching take a moment instead of being instant?
Everything the previous business had saved on your device is cleared first, then the page reloads. That is the only way to be certain a figure from the last set of books can never appear under the next one's name. You land on the same screen you were already on, not back at the dashboard.
I am on a shared computer — how do I sign out properly?
Choose Sign out of all accounts. A plain Sign out ends only the account you are using and deliberately leaves any others signed in, which on a shared machine is how someone else ends up looking at books that are not theirs.
Is there an app my accountant can also log in to?
Yes. Invite your CA from Settings → Team Members with the Accountant role; they sign in with their own email and see your books read-only — every report, invoice and ledger, with no ability to edit. If they serve several clients on Finocket, they get a portfolio dashboard.
From: Team & roles — invite an admin, an assistant, a member or your accountant
Can my assistant see my profit and bank details?
An assistant can open the same enabled modules you can, including reports, because they work your books. If a module shouldn't be visible to staff, disable it for the workspace — module choices apply to everyone. Workspace settings, team and modules remain owner-only.
From: Team & roles — invite an admin, an assistant, a member or your accountant
My teammate signed up but doesn't see my books — why?
The invite matches on email at login. Check they registered with exactly the address you invited; if they used another email, remove the pending invite and re-invite the correct one. The workspace attaches automatically on their next sign-in.
From: Team & roles — invite an admin, an assistant, a member or your accountant
Can an accountant change something by mistake?
No. The accountant role is enforced read-only in the database itself, not just hidden buttons — every write from an accountant session is refused. They can view and download anything, and you can verify all activity in the team activity log.
From: Team & roles — invite an admin, an assistant, a member or your accountant
How many people can I invite, and what does it cost?
Invite the people you need — during early access, team features are free to use; founder pricing will be announced before billing switches on. For larger teams or a CA practice managing many clients, contact sales via the pricing page.
From: Team & roles — invite an admin, an assistant, a member or your accountant
Can my partner see my real email and phone number?
Only if you choose to share them, from Settings → Your partner. By default they see masked initials only, and any message they send reaches you through Finocket, never directly.
From: Your partner — who referred you, and what they can see
What happens the moment I turn sharing off?
Your partner's screen reverts to masked initials on its very next read — there is no delay or grace period. Any copy they already made outside Finocket is a separate, contractual matter, not something the app can reach into.
From: Your partner — who referred you, and what they can see
A partner set up my workspace for me — can I remove their access later?
Yes, any time, from Settings → Your partner or Settings → Team Members. Removing their seat does not undo anything they set up; it only ends their ongoing access.
From: Your partner — who referred you, and what they can see
How do I file GSTR-1 step by step?
Compute it from your books in Finocket (GST → Returns → pick month → download the export), then upload in the GST portal's offline tool, verify the summary and file with OTP or DSC. Your invoices are the source, so keep them recorded through the month and filing becomes a 10-minute job.
What's the difference between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B?
GSTR-1 is the detailed invoice-wise return of your outward supplies (what you sold, to whom). GSTR-3B is the monthly summary where you declare totals and actually pay tax after ITC. Finocket computes both from the same books so they can't drift apart.
Can I file GSTR-1 myself without a CA?
Yes. If your invoices are recorded, Finocket produces the portal-ready export and the 3B summary — many small businesses self-file monthly and involve their CA for the annual return. The Hand-to-CA ZIP keeps your CA in the loop either way.
Where do I see my GST due dates?
The due-date calendar on GST → Returns lists what's due for each period, so GSTR-1 and 3B never sneak up on you.
Can Finocket count down to the due date instead of me watching the calendar?
Yes. The GST filing countdown automation at /agents counts down to each GSTR-1 and 3B date and tells you where the period stands — what is recorded, what is still missing, what will not compute. It gets more insistent as the date nears and goes quiet once you mark the period filed.
Will it file the return when the date arrives?
No, and not with your confirmation either. Filing cannot be undone, a wrong figure costs you money in penalty, and the return is your statement about your own business. The automation gets the figures reconciled and the period ready; you press file on the portal.
What is the P&L statement format for a small business in India?
Income at the top, expenses grouped below, net profit at the bottom — with gross profit shown separately when you track stock (sales − cost of goods sold). Finocket produces exactly this from your recorded invoices and expenses, for any month, quarter or financial year.
From: Financial statements — trial balance, P&L, balance sheet & cash flow
Do I need double-entry knowledge to get these statements?
No. You record invoices, payments and expenses in plain language; Finocket does the double-entry posting underneath and the statements assemble themselves.
From: Financial statements — trial balance, P&L, balance sheet & cash flow
How do I check my books are consistent?
Open the trial balance: if it shows the Balanced badge (debits = credits), your postings are internally consistent. Drill into any ledger to see the entries behind a number.
From: Financial statements — trial balance, P&L, balance sheet & cash flow
Can I get a monthly P&L automatically?
Yes — the P&L recomputes live from your books; open it with the month preset any time. No period-end "generate" step is needed.
From: Financial statements — trial balance, P&L, balance sheet & cash flow
Does the report builder cost extra?
No. It's free for every user, with no plan or tier gate — that's deliberate. Most accounting suites paywall custom reports behind higher tiers; Finocket ships the builder un-gated.
Which datasets can I report on?
Five: invoices, expenses, payments, clients and items sold. Pick one, choose columns, add filters, group, sort and total.
Do my custom fields show up?
Yes — any custom field you've defined for invoices, expenses, payments or clients appears as a column and a filter automatically, by its api name.
Can my team run my saved reports?
Saved reports are company assets in the reports library. A teammate can run one as long as they can read that dataset's area; if their access to, say, invoices was removed, an invoices report stays hidden from them.
Can I claim the IGST I paid at customs on imports?
Yes. IGST paid at the time of import is input tax credit, evidenced by the bill of entry, and is reported in GSTR-3B table 4(A)(1) 'Import of goods'. Finocket's bill-of-entry register captures each bill and adds its eligible IGST to that line for the period.
Where does import IGST go in GSTR-3B?
On the ITC side — table 4(A)(1) 'Import of goods'. It is separate from inward supplies and reverse charge, so it is never double-counted. Finocket puts the period's eligible import IGST on its own 4(A)(1) line and folds it into your total IGST ITC.
What if the import ITC is blocked?
Turn off 'Eligible for input tax credit' on that bill of entry. It stays in your register for reference, but its IGST is not added to your claim.
What is an Input Service Distributor (ISD)?
An ISD is an office of a business that receives invoices for common input services used across its GSTINs/branches and distributes that GST credit to them. Since April 2025 it is mandatory to distribute common input-service credit through an ISD registration for multi-GSTIN businesses. Finocket records the common credit and splits it exactly across your branches.
How is ISD credit distributed across branches?
Pro-rata by the recipients' turnover in the relevant period (or a manual split you set). Finocket computes each branch's ratio from its turnover, then apportions each tax head so the shares add back to the total to the paise — the last paisa goes to the largest-ratio branch.
Does distributing credit unbalance my books?
No. Distribution posts a balanced journal that moves the credit out of your GST-Input pool into an ISD ITC Distributed ledger — debits equal credits, so the trial balance still foots to zero. The register keeps the per-branch, per-head detail for your CA.
Can I distribute the same allocation twice?
No — a distribution posts once. Once an allocation is distributed, pressing Distribute again does nothing, so the credit is never moved twice.
What is a DRC-01B and a DRC-01C?
DRC-01B (Rule 88C) is the department's intimation when the tax you declared in GSTR-1 exceeds what you paid in GSTR-3B. DRC-01C (Rule 88D) is raised when the input tax credit you claimed in GSTR-3B exceeds what GSTR-2B makes available. Finocket runs both checks on your own figures so you can fix the gap before the notice arrives.
Where do the DRC numbers come from?
From the same GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B figures Finocket already builds for the month — nothing is invented. If a month's books tie, the check is all-clear; a real gap shows the exact per-head difference.
Does the DRC self-check file anything?
No. It is a read-only self-check on your own data, not a return filed with the GST portal. Verify with your CA and respond to any actual DRC intimation on the portal.
Can I see GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B across all my GSTINs together?
Yes. The Consolidated GST screen shows one GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B summary across your GSTINs, each as its own column, with a consolidated total that is always the exact sum of the columns shown. A team member only sees the GSTINs they can access.
How do I claim the 1% TCS that marketplaces collect on my sales?
The TCS the marketplace deposits shows against your GSTIN on the GST portal (TDS/TCS credit received). Accept it there and it credits your cash ledger, usable against your GST liability. Finocket's reconciliation confirms the marketplace's TCS base matches your books first, so you claim the full amount.
What is GSTR-8 reconciliation for online sellers?
Matching your recorded marketplace sales against what each marketplace reported in its GSTR-8 (via its settlement data) for the same month. Finocket does the diff per marketplace and flags material mismatches before you file GSTR-1.
Why is my Flipkart payment less than my sales?
Settlements are net of commission, shipping fees, and TCS. The settlement card shows the full breakdown — gross, TCS, commission, fees, net payout — so the gap is explained line by line, and your books record sales at gross, not at payout.
Should I book the settlement amount as my sales?
No — that's the most common seller accounting mistake. Sales are the gross order value (that's what GST is on); commissions and fees are expenses. Finocket's marketplace ingest keeps them separate automatically.
Is the ₹5 crore e-invoice limit mandatory for me?
If your aggregate turnover crossed ₹5 crore in any FY since 2017-18, yes — your B2B invoices need IRNs. Under the threshold, no. The limit has been lowered repeatedly, so re-check the current notification each year or ask your CA.
How do I generate an IRN and the e-invoice QR code?
Download the IRN payload JSON from the invoice in Finocket, upload it on the IRP portal (or through your GSP), and the portal returns the IRN plus the signed QR code. The QR comes from the government's signature, not from the billing app.
What is the e-way bill limit state-wise?
₹50,000 per consignment for inter-state movement everywhere. For movement within a state, several states set their own limits (some higher for specified goods, some lower) — check your state's e-way bill notification before dispatching.
Does Finocket file the e-invoice for me automatically?
Not yet — it prepares the exact JSON the portal accepts, and you upload it. That keeps you in control of registration; direct GSP submission is on the roadmap.
How would I find out an invoice never got its IRN?
The E-invoice failures automation at /agents checks for invoices that should carry an IRN and do not — a payload the portal rejected, an upload nobody finished, a consignment over ₹50,000 with no e-way bill against it. It gives you the invoice number and what is missing, which is far cheaper to learn on the day than at month-end.
Can it upload the payload to the IRP for me?
No. Registration happens under your own GSTIN on the portal and the automation has no route to it — the same reason it can never file a return. It finds the gap and names it; the upload is yours.
Can Finocket file my GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B directly to GSTN?
Not yet. A GST Suvidha Provider is connected — that is what powers the live GSTIN lookup — but the return push itself is not switched on. Filing needs a portal session for your own GSTIN plus an EVC OTP per submission, which is a stronger consent than reading, and that flow is not finished. Finocket generates portal-ready files you upload yourself in the meantime.
What does the GSP connection give me today, then?
Portal lookups. Type a client or supplier's GSTIN and their legal name, trade name and address come back from the GST register, with the registration status. If the registration has been cancelled you get a warning before you claim input tax credit against it — that credit can be reversed with interest — and a composition supplier is flagged as unable to pass you credit at all. Neither is knowable from the GSTIN number alone.
Why do I need a GSP for direct filing?
GSTN does not open its returns API to businesses directly — every automated filing and every portal lookup must flow through a government-appointed GSP. That is why the GSTIN lookup is a real integration rather than a local lookup table.
Are my GSP credentials safe if I connect them?
Yes. Credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before they ever reach the database, are bound to your company so a copied row can't be decrypted elsewhere, are never shown again after saving, and only the company owner can manage them.
What can I do until direct filing is live?
Generate portal-ready GSTR-1 files, the GSTR-3B summary and the GSTR-2B reconciliation from GST → Returns and upload them on the portal, and run the DRC-01B/01C self-check before you file.
How do I reconcile GSTR-2B with my purchase register?
Download the month's 2B JSON from the GST portal, upload it in Finocket's GSTR-2B recon, and read the four buckets: matched, tax mismatch, missing in books, missing in 2B. Your recorded expenses are the purchase register — no separate spreadsheet needed.
Can I claim ITC for an invoice not showing in GSTR-2B?
As a rule, no — ITC is restricted to what appears in 2B. Record the purchase, but hold the claim and chase the supplier to file; the credit becomes claimable in the month it shows up.
What's the difference between GSTR-2A and GSTR-2B?
2A is a dynamic statement that keeps changing as suppliers file late; 2B is a static monthly snapshot — cut off on the 14th — that ITC claims are measured against. Reconcile against 2B.
Why is a supplier's invoice missing from my 2B?
Usually they filed late, filed under the wrong GSTIN, or haven't filed at all. It will appear in a later month's 2B once they file — until then the credit waits.
Do I have to read these four buckets by hand every month?
You bring the 2B JSON — that download from the portal is still yours. Once it is uploaded, the 2B mismatch digest automation at /agents reads the buckets for you and turns them into a short list of what actually needs chasing: which supplier, how much credit is blocked behind them, and which tax mismatches are worth an email.
Can it fetch my 2B or chase the supplier itself?
Neither. Auto-fetching 2B from the portal is not live, so the upload stays something you do. And an automation never sends to anyone outside your team — it can name the supplier and draft what you would write, but the message waits for you to send it.
How do I reconcile Amazon settlement reports with my books?
Connect Amazon and Finocket ingests settlement reports automatically. The Settlements tab shows gross, TCS, commission and net payout per settlement, and GSTR-8 reconciliation diffs Amazon's collected-TCS view against your own outward supplies so you spot gaps before filing.
Should I book the settlement amount or the full sale as revenue?
Book the full sale value as revenue and the marketplace fees, commission and TCS as separate line items — that is what your GSTR-1 needs. Booking only the net payout understates sales and breaks GST reconciliation. Finocket's convert-to-invoice does this correctly for you.
How do I claim the 1% TCS Amazon collects?
Amazon deposits TCS against your GSTIN and reports it in GSTR-8. It appears in your GST cash ledger after you accept it on the GST portal. Finocket's GSTR-8 reconciliation shows exactly how much TCS each marketplace collected per period.
Why is my Amazon payout less than my sales?
Amazon deducts referral commission, fulfilment and shipping fees, and 1% TCS before paying out. The Settlements tab breaks each payout into gross, fees and TCS so you can see where every rupee went.
Is it safe to give Finocket my Amazon tokens?
Yes. Tokens are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage, bound to your workspace, and never shown again. Finocket only requests Reports API access — it cannot change your listings, prices or orders. Disconnect any time to remove the connection and cached data.
Why is my Flipkart payment less than my sales?
Flipkart deducts commission, collection and shipping fees, and 1% TCS before settling. Book the full sale as revenue and the deductions separately — Finocket's Settlements tab shows gross versus net per settlement so the difference is never a mystery.
From: Flipkart, Meesho & quick-commerce (Blinkit, Zepto, Instamart, JioMart)
Is GST registration mandatory for selling on Meesho?
Yes for taxable goods: Section 24(ix) of the CGST Act makes GST registration compulsory for anyone selling through an e-commerce operator that collects TCS, regardless of turnover. Meesho also has a limited GST-exempt route for certain categories — check your category before relying on it.
From: Flipkart, Meesho & quick-commerce (Blinkit, Zepto, Instamart, JioMart)
How do I claim the TCS that marketplaces collect?
Each marketplace files GSTR-8 against your GSTIN. Accept the credit on the GST portal and it lands in your cash ledger. Import your TCS/settlement reports into Finocket and run GSTR-8 reconciliation to verify every platform's figure against your books.
From: Flipkart, Meesho & quick-commerce (Blinkit, Zepto, Instamart, JioMart)
How do I keep books as a Blinkit or Zepto seller?
Download your monthly orders and settlement exports from the seller panel and drop them into Finocket's Import CSV screen for that platform. Finocket detects the report type, ingests it, and includes it in your marketplace totals and GSTR-8 reconciliation.
From: Flipkart, Meesho & quick-commerce (Blinkit, Zepto, Instamart, JioMart)
Can I re-upload a CSV without duplicating orders?
Yes. Rows are matched on the platform's own order or sub-order number, so re-uploading the same file, or overlapping exports, updates existing rows instead of creating duplicates.

How do I send my accounts data to my CA?
Two ways: invite them read-only (they log in and see everything live) or send the Hand-to-CA ZIP — one archive with invoice PDFs, statements, Day Book, GST returns and Tally XML for the period. Most businesses do both: live access monthly, the ZIP at year-end.
What reports does my CA need for ITR filing?
Typically the P&L and balance sheet, trial balance, bank details, the TDS summary (to match Form 26AS), and GST returns for turnover reconciliation. All of these are in Finocket's Reports and the Hand-to-CA bundle.
Is there an app my accountant can also log in to?
Yes — Finocket's Accountant/CA role gives your accountant their own login with read-only access to your workspace, and a portfolio dashboard if they serve multiple Finocket clients.
Can my CA accidentally change my entries?
No. The CA role is read-only end to end — write buttons are hidden or disabled, and the database enforces the same restriction server-side.
Can one CA handle several businesses on Finocket?
Yes — each client invite adds a card to their portfolio dashboard, with outstanding, GST due dates and reconciliation status per client, and one-tap switching between workspaces.
How do I export data to Tally from Finocket?
Reports → Hand to your CA → pick the period → Download Tally XML. One file carries your ledgers, parties and every voucher for the range, ready for Tally Prime's Import Data.
How does Tally XML import actually work?
Tally reads the XML in two passes: masters first (creating any ledgers and parties that don't exist), then vouchers (posting each transaction against those ledgers). Because Finocket bundles both, the import runs clean without pre-creating anything.
Will my CA need to create ledgers manually?
No — the masters half of the file creates them on import. That's the difference from CSV hand-offs, which stop on every unknown ledger.
Can I keep using Tally for final accounts?
Yes — record daily work in Finocket, export monthly, and your CA finalises in Tally. Both stay in sync through the XML with no migration project.
Why won't Finocket publish the template as it is?
Because terms nobody has read are terms nobody can be held to. The template is written in plain language as a starting point and is not legal advice; change the square-bracket parts and remove anything untrue for your shop, then publish.
What happens to partners who accepted an older version?
Their acceptance keeps the version and text fingerprint they saw. Nothing is rewritten. Each version on the screen shows how many partners accepted it, so you can see who is on older terms.
Does publishing send anything to partners?
No. The next invitation shows the new version above the Accept button, and existing partners can read the current terms in their portal.
Does Finocket tell me which tax regime to pick?
No. It shows both regimes side by side and marks which one comes to less tax on the figures you have given — nothing more. Which regime suits you also turns on things the page cannot see, so the working is for you and your CA to read together.
Why does it say it has not read this year's rates?
Every assessment year Finocket can compute has been checked against the Finance Act and carries a citation. A year nobody has checked is marked as such, and the page refuses to compute it rather than guess the slabs. It then names the years it can do and offers a one-tap switch.
One of my income rows has a bad amount — what happens?
The whole working stops and the row is named, with the raw text, so you can fix it. It is never quietly treated as zero.
Can my colleagues see what I typed into 'What we cannot see'?
No. Those answers are stored against your own login rather than the workspace, because a row holding your rent and health-insurance premiums should not be readable by people who share the books.
Is anything filed from this page?
Nothing. There is no export on it and no connection to the income-tax portal. For a year that has finished, the ITR working sheet is the document you hand your CA.
Which ITR form does it say I should file?
None, on purpose. Filing on the wrong form makes a return defective under section 139(9). The choice turns on eleven questions; Finocket answers the four its own rows answer and leaves the other seven visibly blank — directorship, unlisted equity, foreign assets, partnership in a firm, agricultural income, brought-forward losses and clubbed income — for you to finish with your CA.
Why are heads of income listed with no figure?
Because leaving them off would suggest your year is complete when it is not. Capital gains and business profits appear on every sheet marked 'Finocket has no rules for this head'; where you do have rows under them, the rows are listed by reference with no rupee figure, since a figure worked out with the wrong rules is worse than none.
Why can I only pick certain years?
A working sheet covers a year that has closed, so only finished years whose rates have been checked appear. For the year still running, the tax plan shows where you stand today.
Can I upload the download to the filing portal?
No. The PDF is watermarked 'WORKING SHEET — NOT A RETURN' and the spreadsheet is one line per figure with its source. Finocket deliberately produces nothing a filing utility or the portal can ingest.
What if something does not tie?
It is printed as 'Left over' on its own line rather than folded into the nearest head. A working sheet that plugs a gap has stopped being a working sheet.
Will it tell me by when I have to reply?
No. Every notice shows 'Confirm the time limit on the portal'. Finocket ships the rule each notice type comes from, but no row has been signed off against the primary text yet — so no window is stated and none is calculated. A guessed statutory deadline on a reply to a tax authority is worse than no deadline, because you would act on it.
Which notices can it draft a reply for?
DRC-01B and DRC-01C — both are arithmetic between two of your own returns, so the working can be rebuilt honestly. For DRC-01A, a DRC-01 show-cause notice and an ASMT-10 scrutiny notice it records the notice and shows the month's figures, and says plainly that it does not draft the reply.
Why can't I put an amount in my own note?
Because every figure in a reply has to come from a record you have attached. Finocket refuses the note and asks you to attach the record instead, rather than quietly deleting the number. Ordinary prose — a period, a section, an invoice number — is fine.
Does it submit the reply to the GST portal?
No. There is no portal connection in this feature at all. You copy the text in yourself or send the working to your CA, and if the portal's box is smaller than your text it tells you by how much rather than cutting it.
What if the AI explanation is wrong?
It is checked sentence by sentence against your own figures first, and anything that does not match is dropped — the review sheet tells you how many sentences went. If nothing survives, or the assistant is off or unreachable, you get the same letter with no explanation paragraph and a line saying why. There is never substitute prose.
What can the suggestions strip actually suggest?
Two things only: overdue invoices, folded into one card with the total, and a GST filing due within three days or already overdue. Both are computed from figures already on your screen — no model is involved. When there is nothing to nudge you about it renders nothing at all.
Does it send payment reminders by itself?
No. 'Review & send reminders' opens one confirmation card per overdue invoice, and each send is then checked against that customer's consent, the unsubscribe list and their quiet hours at the moment of sending — not when the card appeared.
How do I know Mysty is not making a number up?
Every sentence is checked before you see it: a figure survives only if it was in data Finocket handed the assistant during that same answer. One that was not is dropped — not softened, removed. If the whole answer goes, Mysty says it could not put the answer in words it can stand behind, and links you to the screen with the figures.
Why did it refuse to give me a number at all?
Because the underlying tool refused. After a refusal the assistant may explain that it refused and why, and may state no figure — not even zero. 'You have ₹0 tax to pay' is a wrong answer, not a safe one.
How do I switch back to the normal dashboard?
Settings → Home mode. It changes how your home screen looks and works, not your data, and you can switch any time. The same suggestions strip also appears on the dashboard.
Can an agent send a campaign on its own?
No. The job that proposes campaigns has no way to send — no transport, no queue, no send function on its interface. Approving creates the sequence and enrols the people who may lawfully be contacted; each message is separately cleared at its own send time.
What does 'can be messaged' on the review card mean?
A forecast of today's position, broken down by reason — never agreed, unsubscribed or bounced, permission lapsed, outside allowed hours. The binding check happens later, per message, at the moment of sending.
Why do campaign messages never mention amounts?
One message goes to many people, and a figure right for one is wrong for almost everybody else. The copy is figure-free by design and any message containing a number is discarded before you see it. Names and links are still filled in per person.
Can I use WhatsApp for a campaign agent?
Not yet. Scheduled WhatsApp needs an approved template from Meta, so the option is shown but disabled with that reason rather than promising messages Finocket cannot send. Agents plan email only.
If I stop a campaign, are sent messages recalled?
No, and it never claims otherwise. Stopping halts everything not yet gone and tells you how many messages had already been sent and cannot be taken back — or, where it cannot count them, says so rather than reporting zero.
Can my marketing agency approve their own campaign?
No. An agency seat can draft and propose only; they cannot see your contacts or sent messages, and approval belongs to your workspace. Even inside your own team, whoever proposed a campaign cannot be the one to approve it.
What does a counter sale do to my GST return?
It lands in GSTR-1 as a B2C sale with CGST and SGST split from each item's rate; a return issues a credit note at the original bill's own split and reaches the return as a credit note.
Does a split bill go into the drawer as cash?
Only its cash part. The register's expected cash is the float plus cash tenders, the same way the Z-report counts them.
Can a cashier do all of this?
An admin or assistant can do all of it. There is a ready-made Cashier role, and it does scope a counter person to their own shop — their bill list holds only that shop's sales, with no purchase bills, no purchase orders and no cost prices — but it cannot ring a sale today, because it reads no catalogue and so cannot pick an item. Use an admin or assistant at the till until that is resolved. An accountant can read the whole book and write nothing at all.
Why do I have to confirm a UPI payment myself?
Because nothing tells us it arrived. Money sent to your UPI handle goes from your customer's app to their bank to your bank, and Finocket is not anywhere on that route — there is no message we could receive and nothing we could ask. Your bank tells you, on your phone, and that is the only notification that exists. So you check it and press a button, and until you do the order is not confirmed. If you would rather orders confirm themselves, connect your own payment provider on Settings → Payment gateway: those report back.
From: Take UPI straight into your bank — and confirm it yourself
What does my customer see while they wait for me?
That their order is not confirmed yet, in those words, and that you are checking the payment against your bank. They are told the same thing BEFORE they choose to pay this way — the option carries a 'shop confirms' mark and a sentence saying the order is not confirmed until you have checked it. They are never shown a placed order they do not have.
From: Take UPI straight into your bank — and confirm it yourself
Does this queue remind me if I forget?
No, and that is worth knowing before you switch it on. Nothing reminds us either: we do not know a payment is overdue for confirmation, only that nobody has confirmed it. Check the Payments tab when you check your bank. A shopper sitting unconfirmed for three days has paid you and is waiting.
From: Take UPI straight into your bank — and confirm it yourself
What happens if I press 'Not in my account'?
Nothing is cancelled. Your customer can pay another way or try again — which matters, because the commonest reason a transfer is missing is that it went to the wrong handle. Use it when you genuinely cannot find the money in your own bank, and check your bank before your customer's receipt: the receipt is what they say happened, your bank is what happened.
From: Take UPI straight into your bank — and confirm it yourself
Will Finocket use the UPI ID from my invoices?
No, never. You publish the shop's handle on Shop → Payments yourself. Publishing a handle to strangers on a shop is a different decision from printing one on an invoice, and we will not make it for you — so until you enter one, the option is simply not offered to anybody.
From: Take UPI straight into your bank — and confirm it yourself
How do I stop offering it?
Press 'Stop offering direct UPI' on the Payments tab. There is no separate switch to forget: the published handle IS the switch, so removing it removes the option from your checkout immediately. Payments already waiting for you stay in the queue until you decide them.
From: Take UPI straight into your bank — and confirm it yourself
How do I refund one?
From your own bank or UPI app, to the handle the money came from — Finocket is never in the money path, so we cannot send it back for you. Once you have confirmed a payment, though, we do keep a record of it against the order's invoice, so the refund and any commission it affects can be matched to that record rather than typed in from scratch.
From: Take UPI straight into your bank — and confirm it yourself
Does Finocket write my shop's policies for me?
No, and it is deliberate. The templates give you the questions and the order worth answering them in; every promise in the finished page — your return window, how you refund, who pays the postage back, whose courts settle a dispute — is an answer you typed. A policy we wrote would be a promise you never made, and in a dispute it would read exactly like one you did. Have a lawyer read what you write if the business can afford it.
What happens if I leave a question blank?
The document shows an underlined blank where the answer would go, in the place a customer would read it, and approval is refused until you fill it in. The questions still waiting are named. We never substitute a plausible default: a number we chose would be a promise nobody in your business made.
Why do I have to type my name to publish one?
Because a policy page is your contract term with your customer, and it should be possible to say who in your business stood behind the wording. We record the name you type, the time, and exactly which words were on the screen — so if the page is later changed, we can tell you it no longer matches what was approved.
Can my shop go live without its policy pages?
Not without three of them: terms, privacy and returns must be published before a shop goes live. Delivery, cancellations and complaints are not required to open, though a customer who cannot find your delivery times usually just leaves. If you try to open without one of the three, the message names it and offers a link straight to that template.
Is my customer care contact the same as my login email?
No. You type your business's own customer care email and phone, and those are what your shop publishes. The email and phone you sign in with are your personal profile and are never put on a public page — that is not a decision we make on your behalf.
What if somebody edits a published policy page by hand?
A policy page can also be edited on the Pages tab. If what is on your shop stops matching the wording that was approved, the Policies tab says so and asks for it to be read and approved again. That is the one thing you would want to be told, because the words a customer reads are the words you are held to.
Where do I set the country of origin for what I sell?
On each item, under Items — two letters, IN for India, CN for China. An online shop has to show where the goods came from. Leave it blank if you do not know yet and your shop says it is not stated, rather than assuming India.
Who is the grievance officer and what do I have to give?
The person in your business who handles complaints. India's e-commerce rules ask you to name them and say how to reach them, so give an email address, a telephone number, or both — a named officer nobody can reach is not a complaints channel and we will not publish one. The date they took the role is kept, so when someone else takes over there is still a record of who held it before.
What is the difference between a shop and a godown?
A shop sells; a godown holds stock. A shop usually has a godown, a warehouse is a godown with no counter, and a pop-up may share another shop's. So a shop points at a godown rather than owning one, and two shops may point at the same one. If they shared one by accident their stock would be added together and every per-shop figure would be wrong.
Does a new shop keep its own bill numbering?
Yes, and it starts again at 1 under its own prefix. Two shops sharing one numbering would interleave their bills and neither would have the continuous run a GST audit expects to see.
What does a new shop NOT copy from the one I based it on?
Its godown, its UPI ID and payee name, and its stock, staff, price lists and access. The first three would be expensive to discover later — merged inventory, or takings landing in another shop's account. Price lists and access are set for the whole business, so the new shop already has them. The list of what was skipped comes back with the result.
What if setting up a shop stops half way?
Run it again. Each step checks whether it has already happened, so a second run finishes what is missing rather than starting over or making duplicates. The result tells you whether it created the shop or resumed one.
Can I rename a shop, or close one I have stopped trading from?
Yes — Edit on the shop changes its code, name, kind and address. Closing is a separate thing from deleting, and there is no delete on purpose: every bill, day-end report and GST return that shop produced still points at it. Close this shop stops it being offered as a place to sell from and changes nothing that has already happened; the shop stays on your list marked Closed, and Reopen brings it back.
Where did my closed shop go?
Nowhere. It stays on the Shops list with a Closed badge, so you can always reopen it. What changes is that it is no longer offered as a place to sell from — a till cannot be pointed at a closed shop.
Can I see sales per shop yet?
Yes. The till knows which shop it is on, every sale carries its shop and terminal, and the retail reports (Business health, merchandise, tenders) read per shop. A per-shop stock view is the godown each shop draws from.
Can I record how many people walked in?
Yes, per shop and per day, on the shop's own page. Recording a day's count answered an error every time until 12 September 2026, which is why the figure was empty for everyone; it works now. Enter one number for the whole day, or an hour at a time if you count by the hour — a whole-day tally and an hourly one are kept separate on purpose, because hour 0 is midnight and is not the same answer as "all day". Re-entering a day corrects it rather than adding a second reading.
Why does conversion show nothing even though I have sales?
Conversion is receipts divided by walk-ins, so it needs the walk-in count. With nobody counted it reads as not measured rather than as 0% — a shop that sold well to eight careful customers is not a shop with a catastrophic conversion rate.
Can I set a shop a target?
Yes — a revenue target, a unit target and a conversion target, for any period you name, on the shop's own page. Set at least one of the three; a target of nothing would occupy the period's slot and leave no room for a real one.
Why can't I create a work order?
Work orders run on routed bills of materials. Add routing steps to a BoM — work centre, expected minutes and the components that step draws — and it becomes available. A BoM with no routing keeps the simple one-step production run.
How is work-in-progress valued?
Step by step in whole paise: the materials that step draws at standard cost, plus its labour from the minutes you entered at the work centre's rate. The last step absorbs the rounding remainder so the steps add up to the run cost exactly.
Does a work order affect my profit and loss?
No. While an order is in progress it posts one balanced pair — Work-in-Progress against WIP Absorption — which is an asset against a liability, so there is no P&L impact, and it is removed entirely when the order is completed or cancelled.
Does the Capacity tab schedule my shop floor?
No, and the screen says so. It spreads each order's remaining step minutes evenly across its scheduled window over the next seven days and flags days over capacity. There is no finite-capacity solver, no sequencing and no dispatch, and a work centre with no capacity set is never flagged.
What if I tap Complete twice, or lose connection mid-run?
Nothing double-counts. Each step accrual, each release and each production run can exist only once — enforced in the database, not by the screen — and every action re-reads the order from the server first.
Is there a Sync now button?
No — and no overnight schedule either. A sync run arrives one of two ways: the Windows connector asks Finocket for work, or something you control posts your Tally export XML to the API with a connector key. Everything after a run exists — reviewing it, clearing the mapping queue, committing, rolling it back — works in the app today.
Can I download the connector yet?
No. The repository the download would be published from has not been created, so there is no Releases page and no installer. The Connect Tally screen says so on itself rather than showing steps you cannot complete.
Does Push to Tally actually write into my Tally company?
Not yet. It prepares the whole thing — what would be created, updated or cancelled, and everything held back with the rule that stopped it — and then answers honestly that there is no live connection to that Tally. Nothing is sent and nothing is marked as sent. The Windows connector is what would carry it.
Has this been tested against a real TallyPrime installation?
No. The wire format follows Tally's published integration documentation and is exercised against generated files, not a licensed box. Where a behaviour is unconfirmed the code takes the cautious branch — which is why the module is marked beta and is off by default.
Will it bring across my old vouchers?
No, and it never will. Finocket takes your balances at a cut-over date and syncs forward. Your opening capital and reserves already contain the prior-period vouchers, so replaying them would count every one twice and contradict GST returns you have already filed. Nothing dated on or before the cut-over crosses in either direction.
What gets written when I commit?
The ledger entry that moves the money and, where the voucher is a document, the invoice, bill or receipt that goes with it — both inside one transaction along with a line in the run's write log, which is what makes the undo exact later. A voucher whose ledgers do not fit its Tally voucher type is recorded as a journal rather than forced into the wrong shape.
Why are some vouchers waiting instead of landing?
Most often a Tally ledger with no Finocket counterpart — the whole voucher waits, never half of it. Others: an unrecognised voucher type, GST that cannot be attributed line by line, a foreign-currency voucher, a voucher cancelled or optional in Tally, or one whose debits and credits do not match. Each is counted and named on screen.
Can I pair more than one Tally company?
Yes. Each pairing keeps its own sync markers and its own mapping answers, because two Tally companies can mean different things by the same ledger name. Every screen names which one it is reporting on.
Where do I download the connector?
You cannot yet. The repository it would be released from has not been created, so there is no Releases page and no .exe. That is an owner action nobody has taken — not a link we have mislaid.
Could I build and install it myself today?
It would not sync. The connector cannot yet tell Finocket which company is open in Tally, and Finocket refuses to hand out work until it hears the right company's identity back — because reading the wrong company would put someone else's figures in your books. A hand-built connector is answered 'stop' and never receives a job.
Will Windows warn me when I run it?
Yes. It is unsigned, so SmartScreen shows a blue 'Windows protected your PC' box with only a Don't run button. Click More info, then Run anyway. If your organisation blocks unsigned executables, it cannot be installed there — do not disable SmartScreen to get around that.
Will buying a code-signing certificate remove the warning?
No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing. SmartScreen reputation is per file: a freshly built binary starts at zero regardless of the certificate on it, Microsoft's current guidance is explicit that EV certificates no longer bypass the prompt, and every new release resets the clock.
What about the Sync to Finocket button inside Tally?
It cannot be compiled. Turning its source into something Tally can load needs a paid TallyPrime Developer licence (roughly ₹11,250–33,750 a year) that we do not hold. Nothing depends on it — the connector polls on its own schedule, and the button would only cut short the current wait.
Why a tray app rather than a Windows service?
Because tally.exe is a desktop application that must be running with a company open. A service starting at boot with nobody logged in would spend the night reporting Tally unreachable. The tray app is alive exactly when Tally can be — per-user, no administrator rights, nothing in Program Files.
Is the connector key encrypted on that PC?
No. It sits in a plain settings file in your own Windows profile, whose permissions already exclude other non-administrator users on that machine. We would rather say so than wrap it in something that looks like protection and offers none. It can be supplied from an environment variable instead if you keep credentials in a secret manager.
My Tally is on a hosted desktop — is port 9000 right?
Probably not. Multi-tenant Tally-on-Cloud hosts run many copies of tally.exe behind per-user ports, and assuming 9000 there reaches a different customer's company. Use the port you were actually given.
Why is a whole voucher waiting for one ledger?
Because landing half a voucher would leave your books unbalanced. A voucher with any unresolved ledger parks entire, and lands complete once you answer.
Does Finocket suggest a match?
No. The picker opens empty and an untouched row saves nothing. A wrong ledger sends money to the wrong place quietly and stays wrong for every future sync, so nothing is offered that you might accept without reading.
Do I have to re-upload or re-sync after answering?
No. The run that was waiting keeps its own copy of the payload, and its plan is worked out again when you open it — so the vouchers you just released are already accounted for. Go back and commit.
I answered the same ledger name before — why is it asking again?
Check which Tally company you are answering for. Rules are scoped to a connection, not to a company, because two Tally companies syncing into one Finocket company may legitimately use the same ledger name for different things.
Can I change an answer?
Yes. Answering the same Tally value again replaces the previous answer rather than adding a second one — two answers would make a plan depend on which was read first. Everything you have decided is listed at the bottom of the screen.
The queue is empty but vouchers are still waiting. Why?
Mapping is not the only reason. GST that cannot be attributed line by line, a foreign-currency voucher, or a voucher whose ledgers do not fit its type all go to a person too — and anything dated on or before your cut-over is refused outright rather than queued.
Tally sync says 'Nothing waiting for review' and never changes. Is it broken?
No. Nothing starts a sync on its own — there is no button and no schedule — and the Windows connector that would ask for work has not been published. Until one of those two arrives, there is genuinely nothing to review.
What does 'Tally has a different company open' mean?
Exactly that, and nothing is written while it shows. It is the check that stops one customer's vouchers landing in another's books. Open the paired company in Tally, or pair the one that is actually open.
Why does it say no company is open when Tally is clearly running?
Tally answers an empty reply when no company is loaded, and Finocket never reads an empty reply as success. Load the company and leave it open; sync resumes on the next check-in without being asked.
The connector is running but nothing is listening on the port.
Turn Tally's gateway on: F1 → Settings → Connectivity → Client/Server configuration, acts as Server or Both, on the port shown. If Tally is running with a company open and it persists, a firewall or endpoint-protection product is blocking a local connection. On a hosted desktop, use your own per-user port.
A run is stuck on one step. What now?
'In progress' means it is waiting on your connector, and a big book can take several minutes. 'Stuck' means nothing answered past the deadline — usually the connector on that PC is closed or cannot reach Finocket. 'Failed here' carries the error word for word; forward that text exactly as it stands rather than paraphrasing it.
Why was my commit refused?
Because something moved since you read the plan. Committing re-derives the plan from the stored payload, so a ledger mapped or a period locked in between refuses the run rather than pushing it through. Other refusals: no books-start date, vouchers disagreeing with the cut-over, two vouchers sharing an identity, too many vouchers for one run, or a run already rolled back.
Can I trust the screen when it fails to load?
It will tell you it failed rather than showing you an empty list. A failed read is never rendered as 'nothing is paired' — while that message is up, nothing on the screen can be trusted, including the absence of connections.
Why was an entry reversed instead of removed?
Two families of cases. A posted journal entry is never deleted from a daybook — it is always reversed with a contra entry, so the audit trail shows what happened and what undid it. And anything already relied on outside Finocket is reversed rather than removed: an e-invoice was registered (an IRN can never be withdrawn), a copy reached the customer, a return covering the period is filed, the period is locked, or something created outside the run points at it.
The invoice is still there after a rollback. Is that a bug?
No. For a published document the money is unwound by reversing its paired journal entry, while the document stays where the customer, the e-invoice portal or the filed return expects to find it. You should see the original and a reversal netting to nothing.
What does 'kept, with a reason' mean?
A record the database refuses to give up is kept and reported, never forced. The ledger still carries postings from outside this sync, the customer still has invoices, the item still has stock movements, or something else still uses it. A ledger in that position is archived rather than deleted, so it leaves your pickers while its history stays intact.
Is the rollback worked out fresh each time?
No — it runs the plan rehearsed when the run was committed, not one derived now against books somebody may have edited since. The one exception is protective: if your live books now say a row is relied on, that step is downgraded on the spot and reported as kept.
Is it safe to roll back twice?
Yes. Anything already undone is skipped, and an interrupted rollback resumes exactly where it stopped. It refuses outright if it cannot be sure of itself — a plan that does not belong to the run, a write log that disagrees with the records that exist, or books that do not balance before it starts.
Does undoing a push delete the vouchers in Tally?
No. They are cancelled, keeping their number and their place in the daybook with their amounts set to zero, so your CA can still see them. Tally's own guidance is not to delete vouchers after synchronising.
What is the warning on the undo confirmation?
That Finocket cannot prove Tally still holds those vouchers exactly as they were sent. Tally reports a voucher's version number only on a pull, not in its reply to a push, so for most vouchers there is no proof nobody edited them in between. They are still cancelled at the record number shown — and if somebody corrected one of them in Tally, that correction goes with it.
I pushed to Tally — can I undo it?
There is nothing to undo yet. Finocket has no live route to a Tally running on your PC, so a push sends nothing and marks nothing as sent. The undo panel today is a preview of the rules rather than something you will need.
When do I earn a commission?
On money collected, not on a signature. A referred workspace becomes commissionable when it actually pays; the accrual then sits on hold for the agreement's hold window — 60 days by default — and becomes payable at the end of it.
Does Finocket pay me out?
No. Each finalised statement is settled by bank transfer outside the app and recorded here with its reference. There is no payout provider connected, and no screen can execute one — settlement is a statement plus a recorded transfer.
What happens if a client refunds or leaves?
A reversal is a new negative entry beside the original — the ledger is append-only and nothing is edited or deleted. A refund and a churn share one key, so one payment can only ever be reversed once. Only accruals still inside the hold window are clawed back.
What does 'under review' mean on an accrual?
It has been flagged — a possible self-referral, for instance — and is held out of payable until the business owner approves or rejects it. It is badged separately rather than quietly netted off your total.
How are the pipeline stages decided?
By a plain rule over your own ledger, not a prediction: a 45-day gap since the last accrual marks a referral at risk, 90 days marks it churned. Those are settings, not a model, and nothing claims to forecast.
I signed in and there is no cockpit.
It only opens for an approved channel partner, linked by the email address the invitation was sent to. Accountants on Finocket can activate a reseller account in one tap from the CA dashboard.
Which languages does it understand?
English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, including code-mixed speech, Indian numbering (hazaar, lakh, crore, sava, dedh, dhai) and relative dates like 'kal' or '15 din baad'. Tamil, Telugu and Kannada come out rougher than English or Hindi — read the transcript before you confirm.
What happens to a figure it did not catch?
It is left blank and called out. Finocket never guesses a quantity, rate, amount or client name. A date you never mentioned gets a flagged default; a date you did mention but which came out garbled is left empty, because substituting another would silently mis-date the invoice.
How does it pick the client?
Only when there is no doubt — one exact match, or a single candidate. Anything else and it shows you the candidates to tap. If the name is not in your book it says so and offers to add them; it never creates a client for you.
Does it save the invoice by itself?
No. You confirm a card, and only then is a draft invoice created — still editable before you send it.
Is my recording stored?
No. The audio is processed in memory and never uploaded to your workspace, and the transcript is shown to you but not kept.
It isn't showing on my screen.
It needs both the Invoices & clients and the AI assistant modules on, a connection, and a browser that can record. Where any of those is missing the card or the mic simply is not there, and typing the invoice always works.
How does it decide something is unusual?
It compares a month against the middle of your own history rather than the average, so one freak month cannot skew it. A category is flagged only when it is at least two and a half times its usual level, the difference is more than about a thousand rupees, and it sits far enough outside your normal spread. Possible duplicates are same-amount records from the same party within a week.
Why does it say it needs more history?
With fewer than three months of activity there is nothing to call unusual, so it says how many more months it needs instead of guessing. Months with no activity do not count, so a brand-new category is never flagged on its first entry.
Can the AI summary invent a figure?
Every sentence is checked back against the facts Finocket computed for that report. A figure that is not one of them, a date not in the report, or a citation to a fact that does not exist — the sentence is dropped. Where nothing survives it says there was nothing worth adding to these numbers.
Is the summary advice?
No. Treat it as a summary of numbers already on the page. The assistant is instructed not to predict the future or give tax, legal or investment advice; what is enforced in code is that every figure it states is one of your own.
Why does a working-capital tile say NA?
Because the figure genuinely cannot be worked out — no revenue in the window, for instance. It prints NA with what is missing rather than an infinity or a plausible-looking guess. The screen also names its own blind spot: cash sales are not counted as revenue there, so a mostly-cash business reads a higher receivable-days figure.
How is the digest delivered?
By email, as a scheduled report — daily, weekly or monthly. If no email provider is connected the run is recorded as skipped with that reason and nothing is faked. A section that could not be read says so rather than showing as zero.
Can something check for unusual spending without me opening the report?
Yes. The Unusual spend watch automation at /agents runs this same finding on a schedule and tells you only on the days something is flagged. It reads the thresholds you already set here, so it never flags anything this page would not.
If it flags nothing for months, have I wasted the money?
A run that finds nothing never reaches the AI, so a quiet day costs nothing. But be honest about the monthly figure: a daily watch is about ₹8.70 a month whether or not it ever catches anything, because you are paying for the watching rather than the finding. Six months of silence you never acted on is a reason to review the automation, not to keep paying for it.
Is the forecast a prediction?
No. It rolls your cash and bank balance forward using invoices that are sent or overdue and bills you have recorded and not paid, each placed on its due date. There is no trend fitting, no seasonality and no AI.
Why is my outlook empty?
Because nothing has a due date to project. Rather than draw a flat line of zeroes and call it an outlook, it says so and tells you to add due dates. It needs no history at all — a week-old workspace with two dated invoices gets a real forecast.
Does it include my recurring bills and payroll?
No. Only invoices and recorded bills with due dates are counted. Recurring rules, scheduled payments and payroll are not in the projection.
What do Base, Best and Worst mean?
Fixed adjustments to money in and out that you choose to look at — what-ifs, not probabilities. No confidence level is stated anywhere because none is computed, and the in-report card always shows the base case.
What about invoices in another currency?
They are excluded and counted on screen — two currencies are never added together.
What is the difference between an agent and an automation?
An agent is who is working — it has a name, permissions over parts of your books, a spending budget and an off switch. An automation is what that agent does and when: one piece of work on a schedule, like checking every weekday morning which invoices went overdue. One agent can carry several automations, and each can be switched on or off on its own.
Will it message me every day?
No. On a day when nothing has gone overdue, run short or stopped agreeing, the automation runs, finds nothing, records that it found nothing, and you hear nothing at all. That is the ordinary case. You are told when something needs you, not when it doesn't.
How do I know it actually ran?
Activity records every run, including the quiet ones — the agent, the automation, when it ran, what it concluded and what it spent. A run that found nothing is written down as 'checked, nothing to report', so a broken automation and a quiet one never look the same on screen.
Can I stop it once it has started?
Yes, at any moment, and it takes effect immediately. Pause the agent and nothing scheduled after that moment runs — there is no wind-down and nothing queued that still gets through. You can also delete it outright.
How many agents should I set up?
Start with one agent carrying one automation, and live with it for a fortnight. A small number of narrowly named agents — Receivables watch, Stock watch, GST week — is easier to hold in your head than one agent that does everything, and each one's permissions stay narrow because its work is narrow.
Is there a ready-made automation for my kind of business?
Almost certainly. Twelve come with every business — Morning books briefing, Overdue follow-up, Weekly business review, GST filing countdown, 2B mismatch digest, TDS quarter watch, Unreconciled bank lines, E-invoice failures, Unusual spend watch, Renewals and recurring due, Pipeline check and Approvals waiting — and your trade adds its own. Retail and distribution: Fast and dead movers, Reorder proposal, Batch and expiry watch, Counter cash versus UPI. Manufacturing: Production variance, WIP ageing, Raw material cover, Job costing drift. Services and agencies: Unbilled time, Retainer burn, Project margin drift, Quotes gone quiet. Selling on marketplaces: Settlement reconciliation, Return-rate spike, Fee drift, GSTR-8 credit check. Restaurants and cafes: Covers versus food cost, Aggregator payout, Supplier price drift. The Automations screen shows the ones your switched-on modules can actually feed first, so a check with no data behind it is never offered to you.
I am a CA looking after many clients. Is there anything for me?
Three, and they read across the whole portfolio rather than one set of books: Portfolio filing pulse tells you which clients are ready to file and which are still missing something, Books hygiene score ranks them by how much tidying their books need before you can work, and Deadline wall puts every client's statutory date on one wall so the week ahead is visible on one screen. They read; they never file. You keep the last press for every client, every time.
What does one run actually cost?
About ₹0.29. One credit is exactly ₹1, so a daily automation works out at roughly ₹8.70 a month and a weekly one at about ₹1.25. Every automation shows you its own monthly figure, worked out from the timing you chose, before you switch it on.
How many runs does a ₹500 pack buy?
Roughly 1,700 — enough to keep four or five daily automations going for the best part of a year. Packs are 500, 2,000, 5,000 and 20,000 credits, at ₹1 a credit.
Why is there no discount on the bigger packs?
Deliberately, so a credit is always worth exactly one rupee. The moment a bigger pack made a credit cheaper, you could no longer read a price off the screen — you would have to know which pack you bought before you knew what a run cost you. The bigger packs exist so you top up less often, not so you pay less.
Do I pay for a run that finds nothing?
No. An automation starts with a plain look at your own books, which is not billed at all. Only when that look finds something does the run go on to the AI. For a watching automation — overdue invoices, low stock, figures that stop agreeing — most days are quiet and therefore free.
So why should I budget the full ₹8.70?
Because the figure assumes every run reaches the AI, and the month where a lot goes wrong is exactly the month it will. Some automations reach the AI every time by their nature — a daily briefing always has a day to summarise. And plainly: an automation that never catches anything still costs its monthly figure. You are paying for the watching, not the finding.
Can I use my own AI account instead?
Yes. Attach your own provider key and automations run on it — no credits are spent and we bill you nothing for them; your provider bills you directly. The automations, schedules, permissions and Activity record are all unchanged.
What happens if my balance hits zero?
Agents pause and tell you why. They never fail silently and never keep running up a bill past your limits. Top up and they resume at their next scheduled time.
Can an agent file my GST return for me?
No, and not with your confirmation either. Filing cannot be undone, a wrong figure carries a penalty in money to you, and the return is made in your name as your statement about your own business. An agent can pull the figures, reconcile them, tell you what does not agree and have the return ready — you press file.
Could it send a reminder to a customer without me seeing it?
No. Nothing an agent produces reaches anyone outside your team on its own — no email, WhatsApp or SMS. It can find every overdue invoice and draft what you would say; sending is a separate act by a person, and any message that does go out still runs through the usual consent and quiet-hours rules.
Can it pay a bill or move money?
No. It can tell you a bill is due on Thursday; it cannot pay it on Thursday. Finocket does not execute payments on your behalf anywhere in the product, so there is nothing here for an agent to be given access to.
Can an agent create more agents or give itself more access?
No. It cannot create a second agent, widen its own permissions, raise its own budget or switch on a part of Finocket you have left off. Every agent that exists was created by a person in your workspace, and the list on the Automations screen is the complete list.
I ticked a permission and the agent still can't do that thing. Why?
Because what an agent of that type may ever reach is fixed in reviewed code, and your tick can only narrow it, never widen it. Ticking a permission its type does not allow grants it nothing — the tick is real, the permission is not. The agent's screen shows what it can actually reach, rather than what was ticked.
How do I know these limits will still hold after the next update?
Because they are absences, not promises. The part of Finocket that runs automations has no connection to email, WhatsApp or SMS, no route to filing and none to payment, and cannot write a new agent at all. Checks that run before every release walk the whole of that machinery and fail if such a route appears.
Use-case playbooks
Which app reminds clients about pending invoices automatically?
Finocket runs a reminder sequence around each invoice's due date on offsets you set, with escalating tone, and stops the moment the invoice is paid. You can also fire a one-tap WhatsApp reminder from the Outstanding screen anytime.
Can I charge interest or a late fee on overdue invoices in India?
Yes, if your terms say so. In Finocket you can add a monthly percentage (non-compounding) or a one-time flat fee after a grace period, shown as an honest line item. The Outstanding screen separately shows advisory interest accruing so you can decide what to actually bill.
Will reminders keep going after the client pays?
No. Payment cancels all remaining reminders for that invoice automatically — no awkward "please ignore if paid" emails.
How do I remind a client on WhatsApp without typing the message?
Open Outstanding, long-press the invoice and choose Remind via WhatsApp — the message opens pre-filled with the amount, reference and portal link.
Can Finocket chase my overdue invoices for me?
It can find every one of them and have the chase written, and it cannot send. The Overdue follow-up automation at /agents runs each morning, picks up whatever has gone overdue, and leaves you a draft per invoice with the amount, the days late and the wording. Each one waits for your tap — nothing an automation writes reaches a customer without a person sending it.
How is that different from the reminder sequence above?
The sequence is tied to one invoice and works to the offsets you set on it. The Overdue follow-up automation looks across the whole of Outstanding each morning — including invoices whose sequence has already run out — and hands you a drafted chase for each. The sequence does the routine chasing; the automation catches what the routine did not.
Why not just set an alert at a fixed amount?
Because the right amount is different for every business, and different for the same business a year later. ₹50,000 of packaging in a month is a disaster for a small workshop and an ordinary Tuesday for a distributor. A fixed figure ends up in one of two states — it never fires, so you stop believing it is on, or it fires every month until you mute it. Both look like a working alert on the screen. A drift watch asks whether a number has moved against what your business normally does, which has a useful answer without anyone tuning a figure by hand.
What sort of things does it catch?
The ones that are invisible in one month and obvious across three. A supplier moving ₹120 to ₹126 to ₹131 — each step too small to argue about, together a 15% rise you never agreed to. A margin that slipped from 22 points to 20 and stayed there, which on ₹12,00,000 of monthly sales is ₹24,000 a month leaving with no decision behind it. A marketplace commission changed by a notice nobody read. A customer who ordered ₹40,000 a month and has ordered ₹6,000 for two months without ever complaining or cancelling.
My workspace is new. Will this work?
Not yet, and it is better to know that than to switch it on and trust it. A drift watch compares you to yourself, so it needs a few months of real entries before there is a normal to compare against. In week one, everything is the first of its kind, so every run is either silence or a false alarm. Give it two or three months of ordinary bookkeeping first.
My business is seasonal — won't it alert on every festival?
It will, if you compare this month to last month. For a sweet shop, October is not a drift from September, it is Diwali. Compare a season to the same season a year earlier instead. If you do not yet have a full year of history, keep the watch but treat what it says as a question to check rather than a finding to act on.
Does it tell me why a number moved?
No, and it should not pretend to. A supplier price rise, a change of grade, a one-off bulk order and a mis-keyed entry all look identical from the outside. What it gives you is a specific question with a date on it — this rate has moved three times since April — which is a conversation you can have without accusing anyone of anything.
Will it act on what it finds?
No. It brings you the finding and stops there. It will not renegotiate a rate, message the customer who went quiet or adjust a price. Every run it makes is recorded, including the quiet ones where it found nothing.
How is this different from the spreadsheet I already keep?
A spreadsheet tick records that somebody said a month was done. It cannot record that the purchase register balances, that the bank is reconciled to the last day, or that every outward invoice carries an HSN. The two come apart at the worst moment — a client marked ready turns out on the 9th to have a fortnight of unmatched bank lines. Your portfolio reads the books themselves, so ready means the underlying data says ready.
What are the usual reasons a client is blocked?
Three cover most of a normal month. Purchases not yet reconciled against GSTR-2B, so the input credit figure is still a guess — usually yours to finish. A bank statement that never arrived, so the books simply stop mid-month — the client's to send. And a handful of invoices with no HSN, because somebody added an item in a hurry — a small correction. Which of the three it is decides your next move entirely, and 'not ready' on its own supports none of them.
Can I see all my clients' books from one login?
You see the workspaces each client has invited you to, and only those. There is no practice-wide key: a client who has not invited you is not on your list and no part of your portfolio can reach into their books. Within a workspace you see exactly what that client granted, and a CA login is read-only end to end — enforced at the database, not just by the buttons.
What happens if a client revokes my access?
It stops in that moment. The workspace leaves your list and its figures leave your portfolio totals, with no notice period and no wind-down. Anything automated stops at the same moment too, because automated work never holds access of its own — it inherits yours, can never exceed it, and ends when yours ends. It is their data and their decision.
How does a hygiene read help a difficult client conversation?
It replaces a complaint with arithmetic. 'Your records are always late and messy' invites a defence. 'Bills reach the books an average of nineteen days after their date, forty-one invoices this quarter have no HSN, and this account was last reconciled in May' is not arguable, and it is also a list of things that can be fixed one at a time. It is the same evidence that supports raising a fee or deciding a client costs more to serve than they pay.
Can I run one automation across every client at once?
Only within what each client has granted you, separately. Read the portfolio as a view over separately granted permissions rather than one account with access to many businesses — anything that would need reaching across clients who each granted you only their own workspace is not available to you, and should not be.
Developers & API
Is there a payroll screen in Finocket?
No. Employees and payroll journals are an integration surface reachable through the developer API and your AI assistant. There is nothing to open in the app.
Does Finocket calculate payroll?
No. There is no salary computation and no PF, ESI, professional tax or TDS-on-salary working. Those belong to your payroll system; Finocket records the result.
Is an employee a Finocket user?
No. An employee is a company-scoped directory row and grants no access to anything. Your team's access is separate — see Team & roles.
What stops a retried webhook posting payroll twice?
Stamp the run with its source system and that system's run id. Posting the same run again returns the voucher already created instead of double-counting your salary cost.
What can I build against the Tally API today?
The file lane: post the XML someone exported from TallyPrime, read the plan back, commit it, roll it back. The Windows connector's endpoints exist and are documented, but there is no download — the release repository has not been created, the in-Tally add-on needs a paid TallyPrime Developer licence to compile, and the installer is unsigned.
How does a Tally sync run over the API?
Create a run with the payload (this writes nothing), read the plan, commit with an explicit confirmation, and roll back if it was wrong. A run that is not awaiting review cannot be committed, and a plan that went stale since it was read is refused rather than applied.
Why does a synced invoice not move my trial balance?
Because its journal already did. Every synced voucher lands twice — as a journal on the exact Tally ledgers, and as a document for ageing and GST with that copy's posting suppressed. Totalling synced documents and expecting them to reach the ledger double-counts.
Why did my whole voucher park instead of landing partly?
It touched a Tally ledger with no Finocket counterpart. Landing the half we understood would put real money in the wrong place and balance the entry with a guess. Answer the mapping queue and the run already waiting lands it — nothing is uploaded again.
How do I tell a failed sync from a successful one?
By the run's own status, never by an HTTP code — Tally answers 200 while reporting per-line errors, so results carry its error text word for word, per voucher. A run that landed rows but could not store its rollback plan reports failed, not completed: the books are correct, but the one-action undo is not available for it.
Is the API key shown again after I create it?
No. The key is displayed exactly once, at creation, and only a masked prefix is kept for display. Copy it into your secret manager immediately. If you lose it, create a new key with the same scopes and revoke the old one.
What's the difference between live and test keys?
Test-mode keys let you build and verify your integration without touching production behaviour; live keys operate on your real books. Both respect the same scopes and row-level security. Start in test mode, switch the key when your integration is ready.
How do I know a webhook really came from Finocket?
Every delivery carries X-Demystify-Signature. Recompute the HMAC-SHA256 of timestamp.rawBody with your endpoint's secret and compare it to the v1 value using a constant-time comparison. Also reject timestamps older than a few minutes to stop replays.
Can an AI assistant use my books through this API?
Yes, and there is a one-tap way to do it. On the API keys screen, Connect Claude or Connect ChatGPT issues a key for you and shows the address to paste in — no choosing scopes. The same API is also exposed as an MCP server at /api/mcp if you would rather wire it up yourself with a key you built.
What can a connected assistant actually do with my books?
It can read, and only read: your clients, invoices, payments, expenses, items, stock, orders, reports and GST figures. It cannot create an invoice, change a record, record a payment, or message a customer — those permissions are not on the key at all, so there is nothing to switch off. Some things stay private even from a connected assistant: your inbox, your saved logins for other services, staff and payroll records, and partner payouts.
How do I disconnect an assistant?
Revoke its key on the API keys screen. It stops working on the assistant's very next question — there is no waiting period and nothing cached. The connection is listed there with what it can see and when it last looked, so you can tell whether an assistant is still being used before you remove it.
Why can I not give Claude permission to send invoices?
Deliberately. A one-tap connection is meant to be safe to grant without reading a permissions list, so it never includes anything that changes your books or reaches your customers. If you genuinely need an integration that can write or send, build a key yourself further down the same screen, choose those scopes on purpose, and name it so you recognise it later.
Can my API key read another company's data?
No. Every request is bound to your workspace by row-level security, and within it to one company — the pinned one, your default, or the X-Company-Id you send. A company the key can't reach is refused.
Does every tool actually check my key's permissions?
Now it does. Two of them did not: partner earnings and marketing campaign returns carried no permission at all, so any key of yours could read them regardless of what you granted it — including a key you had issued to an outside integration for something unrelated. Partner earnings now needs the partners permission and campaign returns needs the reports permission. If a key you already issued reads either one, grant it that permission or the call will be refused. Nothing else changed, and no data was ever reachable outside your own workspace.
Can my existing key read online baskets and checkouts?
No, and that is deliberate. Online baskets and checkouts sit behind their own permission — a separate pair for reading and for writing — so no key issued before they existed can reach them. A basket carries the shopper it belongs to, the delivery address they picked and the way they chose to pay, and a key you issued for something else should not quietly acquire all of that. If you want an integration or a shopping agent to work a basket, issue it a key with those permissions on purpose.
Can an integration mark an online order as paid?
No. Starting a payment, confirming one, failing one and completing an order are refused on this API by name, whatever permissions the key holds — only a verified message from the payment provider can say that money arrived, and the order is created by the step that also checks the books balance. What a key with the write permission can do is the shopper's own progress: set the delivery address, choose a delivery option, choose how to pay, and cancel. A checkout that already has a payment in flight refuses even those.
